Great memories there from the Tyco error of MBX. Wild colours / designs, very 90s LOL! Really enjoyed seeing the older cards and castings. Nice opening features too. Good point about the casting name changes giving us some grief around where to catalog / store them! Thanks =)
Im now 33 years old. These cars were my childhood! Even as a young discerning child, I was a fan of more realistic looking cars. But some of the models back then were not available from hotwheels so had to get these too.
Thanks, that was cool seeing older castings. I have some of those I have picked up at various shows and antique stores. Good stuff, especially the camper/ trailer.
In the late 1960's - early 1970's, an English company called 'Lone Star', manufactured a range of 1/64 scale cars. I had some Ford Corsairs, each of which had suspension, windows, opening doors, boot [trunk], and bonnet [hood]. They were some of my favourites as a kid. Wish I had them now...
Nice presentation. It was great to see some older releases. My favourite out of the bunch was the Mercedes 500SL and the Highway Maintenance Truck was close second. :-) P.D.
Great video Mark, thankx for sharing! Right off the bat, in my Misfits downhill racing this year, I raced that very first car shown (Mazda RX7) and for being played with for 23 years, it was still fast! So I could just imagine what a mint copy of that casting could do! I'm probably in the minority but I love the generic stock cars you showed.
Very nice haul. You Mr. Grooves have an amazing die cast collection. I'd love to do some downhill racing with you. My main reason for commenting was I just got the red 57 Chevy you showed right off. I got a 20 car lot off eBay for $25 w/shipping. I also got 2 James Bond 007 Lotus Esprit. A white and a bronze. They came in little boxes w/007 on the side. Never seen them before. J.Lightning I think. I also got 2 Dick Tracy cars and 4 cars I never saw in stores. They came w/ a Need for Speed CD-rom game. They were Nascar castings. I've recently got quite a few lots that had some gems. Wont buy new 2017s for $5-$10, but some of these lots have some amazing cars. Gotta love these older Matchbox. Opening hoods, doors, etc. I know people want those on $1 cars now, but castings like that arent cheap. So usually those are in the premium lines. Which is fine by me. The levels of cars make sense. $1 standard mainline. Those are still amazing cars. $3.50 for the Race Day-premium type cars w/ rubber tires, then $3.50?? for Majorette(?price?). But those are highly detailed and very nice LICENSED models. Opening doors, hoods, and hatchbacks. Front and rear detailing, and suspension. For $3.50 that's not bad. Then $4+ you have the higher end M2, Auto World, etc. Again, highly detailed, functional doors and hoods. Stock paint and Licensed models...which also cost money. Mr Grooves you said it best. You get what you pay for. If you want a better looking, more "functional" car, you have to pay. Everything I mentioned cost money to produce. From the Licensing, to the suspension, the rubber tires, and the functional hoods and doors. Even the better paint and more detailed interior. ALL of this costs these companies money. You can't expect Majorette to charge $1 when their cars have so much more to offer. Now this is a hobby. And again, you said it best collect what YOU like. Enjoy your cars. Oh I also found a Hot Wheels 6 lane raceway from a store website. $99.00 w/ a $10 coupon. With free shipping I paid $94.49 with tax. I couldn't believe it. I finally scored one of these. I paid $185 for my first on in March. Almost double what I paid for this one. So watch the stores. I think the 6 lane will be coming back. For Christmas 2017 I'm willing to bet for sure.
Cool! I see some models I've never seen before like The Buster and also quite a few others I have myself! 12:30 Yes the whole back flips open, I have one of those but the canopy got lost and at 14:19 That mondeo looks soooo cool!!! Also never seen that model in mbx before... I'll have to look out for that one this summer on flea markets :P 21:45 Majorette? It's French tho ;) Really cool models in there, it's so much fun to see old stuff. The designs on the cars, the card designs... So oldschool! I really like the 80s-early 90s stuff. Great vid mark! Looking forward to see some of these beauties on the track! :D
I love these boxes with older stuff inside! I'm not sure about the wheels of the Tyco era Matchbox though. The crazy colors don't remind me of Matchbox much. Some castings are nice, like the Mercedes shown at 12:37 or the Ferrari at 18:52. Show more of these if you can in the future. It's always nice to re-discover some older castings.
I didn't remember that matchbox put crazy tempos/ colours on their model back in the 1990s... Oh well, I like the old Ambulance though, I have a couple exemple of this casting.
The Tyco cars are nice. The Lumina, T-Bird, and other stockers look nice. I'm not a big fan though of some of the paint schemes on some models. It's just too much. Sometimes simple makes a bigger statement, and looks a lot better. A Mazda RX-7 with a pearl white or a one color paint scheme, a bigger impact. Sometimes less is more and more is WAY TOO MUCH.
Love the Ford Mondeo and the fact that it is it's British Touring Car livery from 1993/1994.. I believe I use to own that model and maybe a few others from here.
I don't know if Matchbox ever licensed NASCAR per se, but I think they licensed liveries from some NASCAR teams because I have several from that era: Maxwell House, Quaker State, and Hardee's (though I think that last one was a DAYS OF THUNDER model... still haven't found the Mello Yello one at Value Village thrift stores). I like that the Matchbox Ferrari Testarossa doesn't fit on regular Hot Wheels tracks, they kept the proper proportion of the wide rear haunches rather than squishing it for tracks like Hot Wheels did with their original Testarossa (not the more recent 512M). I wouldn't say that era of wheels is my favourite for Matchbox but they compliment some of the wilder late-1980s/early-1990s day-glo-paint-and-animal-stripe designs so I don't hate them. Good luck buying a 2005-2007 Ford GT, they've actually *increased* in value over the past decade. ua-cam.com/video/UI1dXwcJec4/v-deo.html 18:12 Speaking of MIAMI VICE, one of the Testarossas I have from Matchbox has the MIAMI VICE logo right on the hood, from the "Star Cars" series. Siku has opening doors on some models as does Majorette, which re-appeared on pegs in Walmart in Canada last year after being absent for many years.
i am actually set at work watching Miami Vice While Watching your video LoL here in the UK, the Ford Mondao & Escort Cosworth are both UK Models or at least real cars where sold here
I see these in the Flea Market, and the models I like had gaudy paint jobs. Hot Wheels is gonna make a the FD RX7. I hope that doesn't mean they will ditch 24/Seven though. It's one of my favorites.
Some nice models, including the Ford Probe, but oh! the foul colour schemes on most of them! A great XK220, ruined by a noxious 50/50 paint scheme. Nope. The only Matchbox model I have of this sort of era is the GMC 'Terradyne' truck prototype, that I found at a car boot sale. Thankfully, it's silver, like the real vehicle, which was a fascinating missed opportunity. A truck with an extending rear cargo bed, tool boxes built into the body, and a built in generator which was powerful enough to provide emergency power for an average house. An awesome vehicle.
10:15: The Escort Cosworth. Basically, you get a Ford Escort, and then you shoehorn a Grand Prix racing spec. engine, made by Cosworth into it. The result is a small car with an insane power to weight ratio. The big aerofoil on the back, and the air dam at the front were essential to keep all four wheels on the road. A friend of my brother, who is a professional driver and mechanic, had one for a short while, but got rid of it, as he said that it was the only car he'd ever owned, that felt like it was trying to kill him. He said that if you lost concentration for any length of time, it would be 'game over'. A great rally car, but for everyday use... Nope.
Lesney, Universal, and Tyco did better than Mattel since they all had these: nice looking rims, long lasting paint, opening features, and suspension. Matchbox hasn't been the same since MATTEL acquired them.
The Mach 3 was a pro to type that was a real driving car .my dad and son & myself saw this car At The Chicago auto show 1992 or 93 . I have brands of die cast cars so I don't what happened too this car.
I haven't opened any up yet but it seems to me that these cars aren't going to be fast rollers. Because of that, a soft plastic track might make them slower. I am inclined to use a hard plastic surface like the Super 6-Lane but I will make that decision later.
Hey race grooves how do you get all your boosters loops and curves? I'm new and I want to make as awesome layouts as you do. Also I live in NZ so I don't have stores like target and toys are us. I'm asking because I would really love a few boosters loops and curves. Also congratulations on being on UA-cam for 10 years :)
i think 85' ish was the last time it was owned by the orgnial ppl lesney, then i think tyco took over but they couldn't change anything other then the name of who owned matchbox and the places were cars were made i think then by mid or late 90's mb were owned by matel as well anything british in the 90's was slowly going bust that's why usa ppl pay big money for anything toy wise that is for any british items
I really like the bright colors of the 90s matchbox cars, because they remind me of a long gone era.
I LIKE TACOS CATS AND CARS itt
I love the Tyco era of MB! Thanks for sharing!
GHOSTJERKER I watch you guys. You are always making cool things to watch
Great memories there from the Tyco error of MBX. Wild colours / designs, very 90s LOL! Really enjoyed seeing the older cards and castings. Nice opening features too. Good point about the casting name changes giving us some grief around where to catalog / store them! Thanks =)
Great walk down memory lane. I remember getting several of those cars as a kid, specifically the pink and blue t bird and yellow diablo.
Im now 33 years old. These cars were my childhood! Even as a young discerning child, I was a fan of more realistic looking cars. But some of the models back then were not available from hotwheels so had to get these too.
dcinhere Plrei
I used to have some of those as a kid.😀 I clearly see me playing with that Testarossa as a kid.. So cool to see it again. Great Box
Matchbox were so much better then but now its all fantasy castings mostly, great vid.
Thanks, that was cool seeing older castings. I have some of those I have picked up at various shows and antique stores. Good stuff, especially the camper/ trailer.
I'm eager to get these on the track now that I have organized the warehouse better...
Love that 57 Chevy! I had two versions as a Kid, similar to the one shown, and another one in Pink!
Dude, I can't resist for more than 10 seconds when I receive a Matchbox parcel. You're the ultimate zen master.
Nice presentation. It was great to see some older releases. My favourite out of the bunch was the Mercedes 500SL and the Highway Maintenance Truck was close second. :-)
P.D.
memories !!!Mustang Cobra,Speed Streak,Corvette Stingray III...
Hey Mark, very nice seeing the old Matchbox cars, keep up the great work
That red '57 Chevy was one of my favorite cars as a kid.
20JK10 I'd have to say the Toyota supra was my favorite car
Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well mark. love the video and the "old" cars. It is cool to see the pre matell era of matchbox.
I really like your video on race groove and hotwheel cars.........
Great video, Love the older Matchbox! 👍👍
Definitely both the Universal and Tyco era were the best era for Matchbox. barely any fantasy castings.
Kyle Soler ikr
and the regular wheel lesany models and 1970 super fast models.
Great video Mark, thankx for sharing! I love the bright color older ones
I used to collect these as a child
I had a lot of those when I was a kid .the best thing is they have suspension

get better Mark and very nice collection, the Cadillac Allante I had many years ago just found it on eBay
I love the mbx from this era. you don't see them much these days.
Cool! I see some models I've never seen before like The Buster and also quite a few others I have myself!
12:30 Yes the whole back flips open, I have one of those but the canopy got lost and at 14:19 That mondeo looks soooo cool!!! Also never seen that model in mbx before... I'll have to look out for that one this summer on flea markets :P

These are the matchbox packs I remember.
I love these boxes with older stuff inside! I'm not sure about the wheels of the Tyco era Matchbox though. The crazy colors don't remind me of Matchbox much. Some castings are nice, like the Mercedes shown at 12:37 or the Ferrari at 18:52.

Great video my friend;-)
could you do an old vs New hot wheels race?
#askracegrooves do you have any lionel trains or will you be re-viewing this type of sets? as in eletrical toy car sets
That Matchbox Lumina stocker 35 is also in blue cause I have one.
Lesney, Universal, and Tyco did better than Mattel since they all had these: nice looking rims, long lasting paint, opening features, and suspension. Matchbox hasn't been the same since MATTEL acquired them.
The highway maintenece truck is actually a real truck it is based on a 70s chevy c70 dump truck
Racegrooves the probe gt was a car released in the late 80s and early 90s by Ford.
love your channel sub'd
The Mach 3 was a pro to type that was a real driving car .my dad and son & myself saw this car At The Chicago auto show 1992 or 93 . I have brands of die cast cars so I don't what happened too this car.

why are hot wheels look so much better, than match box.
A lot of people did not like this Tyco era of Matchbox. The modern era of Mattel Matchbox is better.
I agree, the first gen was like for kids.
no
matchbox died in the late 80's ,those are not quality matchbox cars who used to be in 70's and 80's .
I want the BMW 850i so, so, bad. Please send me it if you can thanks @racegrooves #askracegrooves
please do this car on track
