You really got this Amida name from the Buddha's name Amida in the Buddhist Teaching in Asia. Amida 18th blessing comes from Amida 18 vow.

The English is on the opposite page in the Siddur.
Take Biblical Hebrew classes. We found a Synagogue that taught us in a very simple format.

Amidah is a good prayer, however I am not fully agree its higher and more important than shema. This is usually the tradition of men putting tradition on top of commandments. Although amidah is very nice, rabbi Yeshua actually summarized it and called it the Lords prayer.
