Morning guys! Update for you all today on how things have basically been going since my update back at the start of Feb. It might be somewhat boring but hopefully sheds some light/details on the current game play. Thanks again for the support, especially during the JW playthrough we just did! That was very awesome.
as a longtime FF14 player that recently started to love Gw2 again, it's a massive downgrade to go away from Gw2 and start playing FF14, especially with the newest expansion Dawntrail with recently hit "mostly negative" on steam, hope you survive playing Final Failure 14 ^^
I desperately missed you during SOTO. Your voice has been a constant companion in good time and bad for about 7 years. But. I always want you to be honest and I always enjoy your critiques. Super happy that you don't sugarcoat.
Really enjoyed the Janthir Wilds play through, looking forward to FF, too. Just wanted to shout you out here…you inspired me to start my own channel in the same vein as yours for Path of Exile and it has changed my life. Thanks for all the videos and memories, dude!
I am really hyped the announcement of new edited content. It was always my favourite stuff to watch on your channel. Every time I open UA-cam I see your streams, but I am just do not enjoy streamed content so much. Also glad to see your enthusiasm about your new projects. And just saying: I would be really interested in your take of the hole Guild Wars story. I can understand that you do not want to make a video about the missed opportunities but when I think back your videos always showed me the potential of the Guild Wars story, even though Arenanet often missed some awesome story possibilities. Finally please share your opinions about the series you watched. I am here your content and would gladly listen to your thoughts about non video game stories.
Man, it's great to hear that you're considering another go at Stellaris! That LP was genuinely so unique and cool I still watch it sometimes. Excited for Monday too!
Honestly I'm glad you are diversifying your content. I loved your TES Arena playthrough and the Zeus series. I was hoping for a Daggerfall series unless I missed it, but whatever comes I'll still watch for the commentary if not for the game.
I'm super glad you're enjoying your endeavors! I think that's important! I think if I had any opinion on all of this though personally, it's that I miss the content I subscribed to this channel for, that being the really long videos I could put on in the background where you talked about your thoughts about features, news, or an expansion. I just don't watch Let's Plays, it's not what I started watching you for, I started watching you to listen to you talk about stuff because I think your opinions are super interesting and I learned a lot about the game by listening. So I'm really excited for these reviews you're working on, and I hope we get more content like it in the future!
I'm definitely interested in a dedicated video showing off the Stellaris mods and I think that it would make a great video overall. Modding Stellaris is obviously something you're passionate about and sharing that passion with other modding nerds like myself sounds great. I've been making mods for games since like 2008 with Oblivion and love seeing people's passion projects for the games they love.
I’ve been watching your videos for many years now. Your content is always top-notch. I personally get really winded from all the 2-3 hour livestreams (especially when there are a lot of them back-to-back and they’re the only way to hear your thoughts on the game / reactions to things happening in Tyria (would totally be watch a compressed / summarized version of those videos if that was a thing). I usually gravitate towards your lore videos (and also some of your other LP’s, like Tomb Raider and Bioshock) and have also watched your more long-drawn content a lot (for example, I’ve watched your reviews of HoT multiple times (all of the videos) and I have watched your GW2 LP twice all the way through, too). I think it’s because the content feels more concise and prepared, so it’s easier for me to connect to rather than a couple hours of ongoing engagement with the chat (I always have the content running as a podcast anyway so I’m never reading the live chat, etc.) and some natural breaks where there isn’t a lot going on (as is normal for livestreams) and that makes me lose focus. So hearing you’re considering doing a review of the mini-expansion thus far is great news to me 😅 And I would personally really enjoy watching non-live videos for FFXIV, too. But I understand that the live-streaming format probably is a bit more approachable (and enjoyable) for someone who does this full time so that also makes sense to me. I just feel like I end up losing out on lots of great discussions, lore reveals and hearing your general take on where the game is heading when it’s stuffed into a multiple hour livestream that I don’t have the attention span for 😅 But regardless, thanks for many years of great content! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the new FFXIV stuff and your thoughts on the GW franchise in general. Cheers!
Appreciate your thoughts! Yeah unfortunately 14 is just wayyyyyyyyyy too massive for a non-live approach, but I'll still have lots of that stuff coming for other games!
Been following you since the launch of GW2 even if I don’t play GW2 that much nowadays, loved your FF playthroughs and since I’ve picked up FF14 a while ago I’m definitely looking forward to some content about it - keep up the great work!
May I venture a suggestion? If a portion of your audience likes a blind LP and a portion likes a polished, edited LP, can I suggest you do both? Maybe you do a blind LP when content initially comes out, then after the final release of the XPac you do a polished one which follows on from previous polished/edited Let's Play content, and can have all the lore explored in full detail in the context of the whole expansion content. Personally, I'd watch both. Probably twice, then again a few years later. I find your voice strangely comforting, possibly because I've been listening to you for over 12 years at this point.
Until about 4 months ago, I hadnt played GW2 since heart of thorns. With the release of LWS1 I've been playing the post core releases which I'm enjoying a lot! I've been following you since your original guild wars let's plays and it makes me feel sad you fell out of love with gw2 with the secrets of obscure post release patches. I'm happy to hear janthir wilds is clicking for you! I'll be watching your streamed lets play when i get to janthir wilds (on LWS4 now). Keep up the good work WP. P.S. Your one off essays/reviews are damn good - looking forward to more!
Hey there :) lovely to hear from you again. Personally i'm all for guild wars content, but i think as long as you love what you cover it will always be engaging, so any content is fine really. A highlight for me was you reading Snargle Books, i almost died laughing at the bee/bear thing. Anyway, happy that you enjoyed janthir so far - i did too :) (i just really hope that theres not going to be any expanded under water content...)
This all sounded pretty amazing. I really liked the passionate presentation LPs mixed with blind live coverage and the Taughts/review after a LetsPlay idea. But most importantly, you sounded really content and happy :)
Ive been watching your content since GW1 and you've always been very knowledgeable about what you do and would be happy to see further content non guild wars related aswell. FF online I think will be great. I started playing that a few months ago and the story is massive!! So much to explore and so much lore. Ive stopped playing it for the last couple of months but do want to come back one day and would be great to see your videos on it 😊 Also if you ever try Lord of the rings online again that would be good too. It is an older game now though, but has become my main MMO for now. I jump on GW2 from time to time at a casual pace these days, I do miss the days of GW1.
For me, I've watched your channel for years (on a different account mostly, I use this account now after the youtube name changes) it was your stellaris series that made me decide to sub to you on pateron. So if you're worried about that, at least 1 person on there is subbed because of non gw2 content 👍 I've lost interest in both gw2 (during SoTo) and FF14 (during endwalker, which really killed my interest in the game as someone who was subbed since ARR), however I've always liked the way you did your single player LPs (Your FF10 and stellaris series were extremely good, and I loved your FF12 series up till where you stopped) and currently I like your zeus series a lot. I'm not particularity interested in any MMO currently although if you did ever go play ESO I'm curious about it.
Hah that's really really great to hear why you came to Patreon man, I love that. Thank you! Weird to hear about Endwalker though - I've never heard anything but rave reviews!
@@WoodenPotatoes I didn't enjoy the story of endwalker, but that wasn't the reason I quit. I just stopped enjoying ff14 as a whole because they've been cutting skills every expansion, and by endwalker none of the classes left really held much enjoyment for me after all the skill cuts. It probably matters less to a new player. After I cleared P8s (pandemonium savage 8th floor) in endwalker, got the transforming mount, I found myself thinking that I'm just going through the motions. I wasn't really enjoying it nor any of the side content endwalker offered, and the new story wasn't that compelling or interesting. So I just quit. Dawntrail didn't really interest me either so I never went back. Possibly a good thing, I'm having more fun with other games (oxygen not included in particular) than I had with FF14 in years, and I don't have to pay every month for the luxury. Also story matters a lot less to me (especially in a multiplayer game) as I got older.
I haven't been a big fan of GW2 realistically since the first expansion dropped. It was about 2014 that I had to go looking for something to play, and I landed on FFXIV. It's really cool to see you playing it now, I hope you enjoy it.
I think you have the right grasp on this, but if you're going to do live content, what I would personally like to see is the occasional edited video that sums up your live experience. The simple reality is that, as much as I would like to, I simply do not have the time in the day to watch 42 hours of JW streams. So I'm kind of in this awkward place where I'd love to hear about your experiences and insights, but I don't have a good way of accomplishing that. I think the JW review will definitely help fill in that gap I'm looking for. I just want to point out that it doesn't necessarily need to be a full review of the entire experience. In a minimally thought out example, say after every 5 streams, you put together a 20 minute video summing up your experiences, highlights, and thoughts on those streams. I have no idea what kind of burden that would be from your creator side of things, but that's currently the kind of thing I would be most interested in seeing from you.
I'm happy to hear that the new upload and production schedule you've been trying this year has been working out for you. I've definitely been enjoying the (mostly) regular content and your series. Both the ff6 and zeus stuff have been very fun, and i'm glad you found back to your amazing style of in-depth commentated LPs. They gotta be the best way to experience games I've never played myself, especially the Final Fantasy franchise. That said, i'm not that interested in your ff14 streams but it's gonna be nice to still have the other projects going on the side. Watching all of your daily content with videos between 1 and 4 hours during Janthir Wilds was quite a task, so maybe it's good to take a break anyway... ^^"
I'm here not just for GW2 content, but for WP content. I have no idea if I am in the minority or the majority though. I definitely felt the same way you did about SotO/Pre-Janthir. Anyone who was hyped about Janthir, I didn't want to rain on their parade, but a lot of the announcements did not get me hyped. I don't care all that much about decorations, I'll be excited about the PvP mode if they actually stick with it instead of abandoning it like they did with Stronghold, and I had very little faith in their ability to deliver a good post-dragons story. However, Janthir really impressed me, and made me excited for the game for the first time since EoD. It was not perfect, but it was a step in the right direction.
Hey! that sounds really cool, glad to hear that you are happy with your channel! Your content always gives me a good time and something to forget about the stressfull days. Thank you WP :D
So i havent watched the full thing yet but as for the live vs edited thing. I have always felt that one of the things that makes many of your series so enjoyable is the level of depth you are able to provide with trivia, dev comment, alternative versions (hello ff6 gba edition, we meet again) etc. I noticed my enjoyment of the ff6 series in particular was higher in the later parts when you had more space to edit the parts. Now thats not to say the live stuff is bad. I just think the live stuff is better catered to stuff like the JW playthrough. A series where the discovery and theorycrafting as you go is one of it's main strenghts. It also helps that it's a series where the back and forth with chat can really work in regards to stuff like previously established lore. Edit: seems like you pretty much said the same stuff as the video went on 😂 Oh and as a sidenote, i have quite liked the microphone quality these past years. Has it been the RE20? Ive been rocking the sm7b for years now but I'm tempted to pick up the RE20.
Yeah I agree that 6 and shadow were WAY better once they weren't live! I like the live stuff, but I think it has to be specifically BIG games or blind stuff to work well. Just my feeling on it. The mic is a sm7b! I own both it and an RE20 but I always found it slightly too muddy for my voice (which is pretty high). I haven't taken the RE20 out for a spin for like three years now. Honestly you already have a great mic I feel like most of the sound quality after that is nailing a good compression/eq. Which I suuuck at myself... so all I can say is "good luck", hah. But don't waste money.
@@WoodenPotatoesYeah I'm just suffering from the "no matter how much I fiddle with the audio, it's never good enough" problem. I'd be curious to learn about your current EQ setup. Although I reckon that'd be an extremely niche video 😂 Maybe something for Patreon? If it's not already on there. I haven't been subbed to it for a bit but this kinda stuff might bring me back :)
Haha nice hint but really I wanna focus on content everyone can see/enjoy before I do exclusives over there. Anyway just standard stuff: A couple of db on the low and high end, and I take a small notch out in the middle to try to combat that "telephoney" or "scratchy" quality that is sometimes buzzing away back there. But I can never be happy with it either.
I'd love to see that mod overview video for Stellaris, love that game but haven't played it in a while now. Also quite enjoyed your previous videos on it so another series would be cool too!
I'd love to see video essays that have a little animated spud cartoon caricatured holding a microphone yelling at the clouds about a topic. Long form edited content is my go-to since I don't have a lot of time to participate in live content. That being said, do what gets you a ROI on your own time, but in a way that keeps you engaged and having fun - don't force it.
Thanks for the update! While I'm currently taking a break from FF14, I'm looking forward to your upcoming series even though I have already watched your older streams on the other channel. I'm also looking forward to the FF6 finale as well as continuing on with Zeus. All of your recent and upcoming content sounds like a lot of work so I just wanted to say thanks!
Hey WP, I´ve been watching the livestreams of Janthir since I sadly couldn´t join live, but so far I´ve been thoroughly enjoying them! So I might jump into FF14 too (watching along, I have no time to pick up another huge mmo D: ) this update reminds me of your let's plays of Azurik and the Legends of Grimrock - I really loved those :D so personally I don't mind if it's GW or some other game you cover. It's always a lot of fun listening to the backstory and lore while watching you play those games. Looking forward to the next let's play/stream!
Heck yeah, Endwalker! Going back to ARR and seeing the entire story as a reintroduction and refresher is a good idea. As you're a lore and story nerd your experience of Endwalker is gonna be much improved with all these details still somewhat fresh in mind, you're gonna love it!
I really enjoyed the live format for the JW playthrough and that it was blind. I dont want to miss that for upcoming content. Its just much more engaging to have the speculation and back and forth with chat and comments and the ability to join in for activities ingame. Found the pace excellent this time. Also I like UA-cam for having the ability to catch up with a stream from start if i catched it late. I think the vods with additional info from live chat do have value. Looking forward to FF14 if its the same format and pace. Keep it up!
Knowing you, you'll probably play through all 3 different City-States intros for the playthrough, but if you don't do that I can't recommend starting in Ul'dah enough, it's just so much more relevant for a more story focused let's play, as is your wont. Can't wait for a full playthrough!
In my opinion, you shouldnt shy away from popular content format, like tier lists. Especially if you want to grow your channel further. You have unique perspective, you're not copying anyone. I'm sure people would love to listen that expansion tier list, both story and gameplay wise. Same about story summary, both video essay and tier list sounds awesome! I'm no content creator, but from what I've seen from other channels separating regular videos and let's plays to two separate channels should be good idea. Look at Preach for example. You talked a lot how streams don't help to grow a channel, because content is not very easy to discover and thats a lot to get through - and thats true for many people. You could try to plan on what you're going to do on your streams in advance, and then upload edited stream highlights to your channel. Or even just pick more interesting pieces, like I loved analysis and theories about Mehir / Mabon / Darda, and I think that segment, with some work, could easily be uploaded into main channel :)
Your modding stuff is really interesting and adds a lot to your LPs. Though, I always came here for GW2 content, and I'm such a casual that without them I'm not even able to keep up with the game's direction haha.
I tried to get into FFXIV but I was so lost on what to do. Spent a few days running around a town doing boring quests and gave up. I'd love to watch a Let's Play from the start so I can see the whole story and maybe I'll learn through the streams and play it myself one day.
ohh im excited for the ffxiv letsplayy. as a quick feedback tho, my favorite content ever from you was the core game letsplay where we followed all the different commanders. is there any chance youll pick that back up now that we have lws1? my second favorite content were all the lore explanations you rolled out when lws3 was coming out; if you feel inspired again to make those, id be so excited to watch them
Really excited to follow your FF14 playthrough. Because I, just like you, got burned out the first and only time I played it at the end of HW. So I always wanted to get back in and give it another try
Wild timing. I've been going through the older FF recently while also playing FF14 from the beginning again. I made it through EW but decided to start a fresh account and really take my time with it. Finished ARR about a couple of weeks ago and I've just been going around doing everything I can in the core game. I'm super pumped to see what's coming up!
Omg I felt the SOTO-slump too, as did a lot of my guildies and my raid static... Which is one reason why I loved your Zeus-LP so much, something else dear to my heart. :D And I even started playing that game again thanks to you and having a blast with it, thank you! Haven't watched the JW-LP yet since I haven't completely played through myself. I like a few things of it but omg the talking simulator... Yes, lots of story, nice, love the books too but I think some smaller episodes would have been better than endless talking. :D Easier to take a break. The let's read sounds fun, looking forward to that!
I fell into the slump hard enough that for the first time ever... I have actually properly dropped gw2 for now. I haven't finished soto, I haven't bought jw... and I don't even have gw2 installed atm.
@@lostsanityreturned I feel you :( Only reason I'm still logging in atm is said raid static (we are kinda curious about wing 8 when it will drop) and WvW and the permanent world restructuring beta kinda killed that as well by destroying all my communities and making everyone unhappy... :( JW is kinda cute so far though.
A discussion about the guild wars 20th anniversary might be a bit more relevant and interesting at the start of the year. Sorta hype train style. I’d definitely watch
Excited for your upcoming projects! Keep doing you, it's been great. I also tried ff14 during heavensward and couldn't get into it but hearing you talk about the free trial makes me want to give it another shot.
If for the Let's Read you're alluding to Destiny's Edge, I think now, with the Elder Dragon Saga over, would be a great time for it! It really would be interesting seeing the book in retrospective, especially when considering the entirety of the story (that we have now) it was a prologue for, as well as being able to explore in-game almost every location shown/mentioned in the novel at this point. I think doing it after EoD would have been too soon, but at this point we've all had the time to digest how it all went down, along with the lore books and NPC dialogue that have also reflected on it all.
Regarding IBS. I went back and did all the events, light puzzles etc, and I earned the Season of The Dragon lego. And IBS seemed wonderful. Drizzlewood was rather daring. And the light puzzles are kinda spooky and neat. The chests for ice shards in Bjora Marches are sooo cool and helpful. IBS = bad story but great gameplay?
Hey WP! Been watching since the GW1 days, I used to love your play throughs of other games like Tomb Raider or the Raven with Matt. Would welcome to see stuff like that, it would be a treat to hear you break down and go through metal gear solid cause I still can’t quite understand what’s going on 😂
Always respect you WP. Still going all these years. MMO space is sad these days :( I find myself going back to playing older games more and more but I would really love an MMO again, I recently tried FF14 but it is so slow to start and I couldn't get into it. Always wished for a Might and Magic MMO absolutely no chance of happening but I did recently discover a workable online mod you can play in the openworld with a group of friends each controlling their own party, made for Might and Magic 6 to 8 it's so cool. I know you had a soft sport for Might and Magic 6 back in the day so thought I'd share that news with you.
Oh my god I can't wait for you to get to Endwalker (which is unfortunate, because that's likely still months from now XD). From what you enjoyed back when you played up to Shadowbringers, I really got the feeling that certain parts of EW were going to blow your mind. I genuinely think it will be your favourite expansion - as it is for many people, but I think it will be your favourite for less common reasons. Hm... When you made it to Shadowbringers before it happened to line up with the holiday season to some extent, when I'm generally on night shifts, which was great because I could actually catch some of the streams that I normally wouldn't because of timezones... I don't suppose you can power through the 1-80 story before December, can you? XD
@@WoodenPotatoes That's a lot to get through. Well, I'll have my fingers crossed, but if I have to watch VODs instead I will. Looking forward to it either way!
very cool announcements. I'm totally down for the non-GW2 content. I started watching you with non-GW2 content (FFX playthrough) and i haven't played GW2 since heart of thorns anyways. i'm really interested in the "let's read" project : if you want to go on an ff14 deep dive there are some very good ff14 short-stories on the official website. i enjoyed the FAQ sections during the janthir wilds i hope you keep them going for the next projet !
Hopefully by endwalker it won't be too bad to add twitch. UA-cam vods just are much worse for me. If I try to watch a stream beginning while live, it forgets my place when stream ends and doesn't tell me how long you've been live before opening the stream which can cause spoilers.
Also looking forward to more Stellaris content. Watched the LP with my brother back in the days and he still asks me from time to time if you made any new content on it.
Recently came back to the game and have just been watching through all the content I missed (so late IBS). Loved some of the End of Dragons videos and am looking forward to getting to JW so I can hear about what exactly has got you so much more invested in the game. Haven't watched any of the other LPs, but that is mostly because they haven't interested me too much. When one comesu p that does interest me I will be watching
I'm looking forward to the XIV playthrough! I'm curious though, when you say it's a full let's play, you're going to cover each expansion? I think you mentioned having plans before so I've been wondering if you were going to do the whole MSQ in a slightly more curated way through the parts you know or if you'd be covering ARR straight into EW - with perhaps some dedicated recap and story discussion episodes to bridge the gap. (For those who don't want to watch the original vods etc.) It definitely sounds like the former but I really do wonder how you'll pull it off over a few months :> It's not so much a question but you also mention that the pre-recorded series went well and that you have another game in mind, I just wanted to agree and say that I hope you'll continue with the format through other games. Having a consistent ongoing series or two surrounding video essays and the occasional live series sounds like a good formula. Lastly, I think you should shout out your patreon more. I believe you once said it felt bad to do so when you weren't uploading consistently, but this year has had a lot more content and I think a small personal reminder is less intrusive than a lot of youtube videos out there.
I say lastly and then forget that I wanted to say that I hope you'll also cover some of the main side content like the alliance raid/raid series in EW or any miscellaneous parts of the game you haven't touched in your own time.
Thanks! I agree about Patreon, probably - if I keep it up then I'll be less cagey. And just to clarify: Yes it's a full LP but in a curated way (no unecessary side stuff like the eden content, for example). I'm somewhat withholding my decision to skip from ARR straight to endwalker until I see if people are really following along. But my hope is to do the full thing.
@@WoodenPotatoes "unnecessary side stuff like Eden"? It and every other bit of side content with the exception of NIER raids have direct ties to Endwalker and influence MSQ story. Not a single "blue" quest chain is truly unnecessary. At the very least you should consider doing : Coils of Bahamut - Essential for A Realm Reborn. Alexander and Omega - Essential for Shadowbringers MSQ and in case of Omega, also for Endwalker MSQ Eden and Warring Triad - Essential for post Endwalker MSQ (6.2-6.5). Doing all Shadowbringers Role Quests also unlock additional content in MSQ Pandaemonium,Myths of the Realm,Shadow of Mhach,Return to Ivalice,Four Lords,Sorrow of Werlyt,Eureka and Bozja questlines have lesser impact on MSQ but should be a part of complete playthrough regardless. If you do not wish to stream "side" content then please at least do some kind of lore summary of those questlines or record it as offline episodes if you're afraid it would be boring stream content ;[ I might sound like a XIV zealot but the plan to skip direcly to 6.0 after 2.0 - 2.55 is abhorrent. It would be better to end the series after ARR in that case.
@@KakaowyKruk He's played through the stuff between and the vast majority exists already in VOD form, I think a few dedicated episodes that cover and discuss the story with links to that content is a fair compromise if WP wants to cut down on like 30+ three hour episodes. I'm a XIV player and story enjoyer but calling simply entertaining the idea abhorrent is breaking into crazy.
@@WoodenPotatoes Gotcha, I'll just tag on that I think *very specifically* the EW alliance raid and normal raid are probably up there with coils in terms of worldbuilding and some MSQ relevance. They follow the "arc-ending" theme of EW in bookending some of the story and I'm sure others would back me up, it's not as "self contained" as other great side stories like Werlyt. I won't say more for spoiler reasons but just learning the subjects they cover might interest you once you're through EW's base MSQ. 👍
ohoh! FFXIV!!!!!! Yes! as much as you like story I can't imagine you won't love FFXIV, especially once you get to Heavensward.. I play both GW2 and FFXIV and there are things I love about both... but no other Game, Movie, TV Series, etc has touched me the way FFXIV has... I look forward to witnessing your experience and hope that you enjoy it..
I am an avid watcher of One Piece anime reactions. I'm sure you would love that lore heavy series. If you want to test the waters, the 8 episode Netflix live action adaptation is very good and Netflix will also be remaking the anime in the future which is HUGE for one of the most loved anime series of all time.
Looking forward to the FF playthrough! Recently binged playing it from base game to Stormblood a couple months ago, taking a break now to focus on GW2. I was wondering tho.. In my opinion, FF14 really is "Dialogue: The Game". How are you planning on making it interesting to watch all the way through seeing as at times it can really feel like a visual novel?
I am here for your really good lore ideas and those got me interested in gw2 story and led me to buy gw1 to play it. I know you are not only lore guy but lots more. I will be happy to watch more content if its interesting to me. I find it hard to go through streams basically because of their length and dead air and content/watch time ratio, I am one of those that prefer content full videos Ff14 is sadly not for me. I tried to get into it and after gw2, ff14 movement and character controller are mind numbing for me. I would gladly watch a lore summary of ff14
Been waiting for the return to FF14. Coincidentally I just got back to playing and catching up with GW2, currently in the middle of EoD and I'm enjoying the game a lot.
It was weird because I only had a twitch account for about 2 weeks, and I was playing FF14, and I noticed you randomly my recommendations praying FF14. I was just starting stormblood as you were in the middle of Heavansward.
I'm well excited the FF14 playthrough! I consider myself a big Final Fantasy fan but 14 is a blind spot for me. I played a bit before any expansions and remember being asked to do the leviathan fight but needed to do an hours-long quest chain to even unlock the fight.
Would you consider becoming a curator on Steam? Might be a good way to get some flow from there to the channel? I'd love to follow you there too as I love the opinions you have on games.
@@WoodenPotatoes absolutely would love another oldschool dungen crawler. Some studio re-made Wizardry 1 recently, I hope they do the rest of the series. Wizardry 7 is an absolute gem.
You said a SotO review would be kinda old news, but tbh I think SotO desperately needs more re-contextualized reviews. It won't undo the damage, but imo it'll help 'untangle' lore a bit. My SotO playthrough was a blur of disappointment, so I definitely will go for another replay and then search for youtube reviews. Good luck with all your upcoming projects!🙂
As a long time gw1 fan and of your content, i am VERY curious to see your take on ff14 (especially endwalker's story) Last year i abandoned gw2 in exchange of ff14 and im glad i did it. It felt like i had been in an abusive relationship with gw2 since the start.
I can't wait for the FFXIV playthrough, as someone else who was very sceptical and bounced off the beginning of that game, I also slowly fell in love with it. As a potato I hope you're playing a Lalafel 🥔
So I'm a gw2 guy who listened to your xiv streams on the background, it didn't really grab me until Shadowbringers, but when it did, it never let me go. Fast forward several years, xiv is my new home and I'm fully integrated with the community, and let me tell you, these people don't just love letsplays/msq reactions, they CRAVE them. I myself have rewatched your xiv stream vods multiple times, and I'm so excited for the new lp. Hope the series does well, I'm gonna be recommending it to my xiv friends, and I encourage anyone reading this to do the same in order to compensate for the zero discoverability of youtube streams.
Looking forward to FF! Have u given ESO a try? ESO feels very similar to gw2 in so many ways, and the stories are really good. I feel like you'll like it!
Morning guys! Update for you all today on how things have basically been going since my update back at the start of Feb. It might be somewhat boring but hopefully sheds some light/details on the current game play. Thanks again for the support, especially during the JW playthrough we just did! That was very awesome.
I love your update vids, it’s exciting to hear the inner workings and your thoughts. Looking forward to it.
as a longtime FF14 player that recently started to love Gw2 again, it's a massive downgrade to go away from Gw2 and start playing FF14, especially with the newest expansion Dawntrail with recently hit "mostly negative" on steam, hope you survive playing Final Failure 14 ^^
Thanks man that's awesome and I'm very happy for you!
A "Let's Read" of the novels would be so interesting!
I had lots of nice responses and comments on Arena since it was made so I consider it a real hit by my own standards!
I love watching whatever you do, Janthir Wilds was nice and I can't wait for whatever is next
I really think you should give the JW series a shot ebcause it's exactly that!
@@WoodenPotatoes I'll give it a shot!
I just feel like I end up losing out on lots of great discussions, lore reveals and hearing your general take on where the game is heading when it’s stuffed into a multiple hour livestream that I don’t have the attention span for 😅
But regardless, thanks for many years of great content!
Teasing me with the start of the Wooden Potatoes OSRS era.
Aha I do like the idea of OSRS!
@@WoodenPotatoes I'd like to see that too. It's a fascinating game compared to all the other big MMOs.
@@WoodenPotatoes Your opinion on both OSRS and RS3 would be fascinating, especially with how they go in different story directions
Sadly I'm really not interested in lingering on the same game for so long like that. I'll always have a balance of blind+produced stuff, though.
First song is Cider Time - Lifeformed. Happy to recognize it in the wild
been watching you for years now. The one thing that stuck with me is you as a creator. So whatever content you wanna tackle, I'll be there for it
Glad you're still around and well. Good luck WP.
Ive been watching your content since GW1 and you've always been very knowledgeable about what you do and would be happy to see further content non guild wars related aswell. FF online I think will be great. I started playing that a few months ago and the story is massive!! So much to explore and so much lore. Ive stopped playing it for the last couple of months but do want to come back one day and would be great to see your videos on it 😊
Also if you ever try Lord of the rings online again that would be good too. It is an older game now though, but has become my main MMO for now. I jump on GW2 from time to time at a casual pace these days, I do miss the days of GW1.
Really glad you found a system that works for making content. Both the live plays and scripted videos are always great.
For me, I've watched your channel for years (on a different account mostly, I use this account now after the youtube name changes) it was your stellaris series that made me decide to sub to you on pateron. So if you're worried about that, at least 1 person on there is subbed because of non gw2 content 👍
I've lost interest in both gw2 (during SoTo) and FF14 (during endwalker, which really killed my interest in the game as someone who was subbed since ARR), however I've always liked the way you did your single player LPs (Your FF10 and stellaris series were extremely good, and I loved your FF12 series up till where you stopped) and currently I like your zeus series a lot.
WP video essays would be a dream come true
I still go back and rewatch the Grimrock 1 and 2 playthroughs. Some of my favorite content you've made.
Finally!!! Loved watching your FF14 Steams and seeing you figure stuff out like Cid's Dad!
Gabu?
Now the real question is, WHO is riding home?
As someone who loved the FFX play through, and who doesn't have the means to play through 14 myself, I am very excited for the full 14 play through!
Hey! that sounds really cool, glad to hear that you are happy with your channel!
Edit: seems like you pretty much said the same stuff as the video went on 😂
Oh and as a sidenote, i have quite liked the microphone quality these past years.
Although I reckon that'd be an extremely niche video 😂
Maybe something for Patreon? If it's not already on there. I haven't been subbed to it for a bit but this kinda stuff might bring me back :)
Haha nice hint but really I wanna focus on content everyone can see/enjoy before I do exclusives over there. Anyway just standard stuff: A couple of db on the low and high end, and I take a small notch out in the middle to try to combat that "telephoney" or "scratchy" quality that is sometimes buzzing away back there. But I can never be happy with it either.
@@WoodenPotatoes Hey that's a respectable answer! Keep up the good work.
Would love Stellaris and Daggerfall !
Lots to look forward to, FF6 finale coming up and more Zeus. Can't wait to find out what's next
That let's read series where you go to the places in the game as you read sounds really cool
I have fallen off the Guild Wars 2 engagement loop, but I'm here for these updates. Have a good one everyone
Super appreciated!
As someone who regularly plays both GW2 **and** FFXIV together, I am very excited for the Let's Play, WP!
Thanks man and it is stupidly cool to hear you're watching it all!
Long time FFXIV player here and been playing GW2 for almost a year now. Looking forward your replay of FFXIV: ARR "A game replayed"
Interesting thought about Uldah!
Very interested in you covering other media than just videogames, might be pretty cool!
@WP As long as your enjoying it will always shine through. So keep doing projects that both fill your enjoyment and the patreon subs also enjoy :)
Thanks so much! I probably spent waayyyyy too long with mods for these projects.
Looking forward to your play through of ff14.
Losing my mind over the book idea!! Especially if you show stuff in game!! OMG
Nice that is good timing! Sounds like you skipped JW?
@@WoodenPotatoes I’ve been pecking away at it here and there while watching your VODS when I have a spare minute.
@@lostsanityreturned I feel you :(
Only reason I'm still logging in atm is said raid static (we are kinda curious about wing 8 when it will drop) and WvW and the permanent world restructuring beta kinda killed that as well by destroying all my communities and making everyone unhappy... :(
JW is kinda cute so far though.
Excited for the JW review. Sad to say I don't think I have the time anymore to watch dozens of hours of streams, even though I enjoy them.
Just wanted to say that I appreciate you streaming above 1080p, it is very much appreciated...
Awesome! I'm glad to hear someone enjoying it. For me it's a pretty major quality difference and means it'll look great in years to come!
I still dream of you finishing that FF-12 playthrough. It was sooo good!
Pretty much yes!
Hey WP! Been watching since the GW1 days, I used to love your play throughs of other games like Tomb Raider or the Raven with Matt. Would welcome to see stuff like that, it would be a treat to hear you break down and go through metal gear solid cause I still can’t quite understand what’s going on 😂
Haha that's a big franchise! I'm working on a new LP as we speak (and check out the ff playthrough on the "live" tab!)
Yeah ff14 is bruuuutally slow to start, rough stuff. M&M would be crazy cool!
XD
That's basically the plan.
WP always the OG guild wars youtuber for me, but you do what you like mate, hopes are still enjoy gw2 from time to time
Also looking forward to more Stellaris content.
(For those who don't want to watch the original vods etc.) It definitely sounds like the former but I really do wonder how you'll pull it off over a few months :>
It's not so much a question but you also mention that the pre-recorded series went well and that you have another game in mind, I just wanted to agree and say that I hope you'll continue with the format through other games.
At the very least you should consider doing :
Coils of Bahamut - Essential for A Realm Reborn.
Alexander and Omega - Essential for Shadowbringers MSQ and in case of Omega, also for Endwalker MSQ
Eden and Warring Triad - Essential for post Endwalker MSQ (6.2-6.5). Doing all Shadowbringers Role Quests also unlock additional content in MSQ
Pandaemonium,Myths of the Realm,Shadow of Mhach,Return to Ivalice,Four Lords,Sorrow of Werlyt,Eureka and Bozja questlines have lesser impact on MSQ but should be a part of complete playthrough regardless.
If you do not wish to stream "side" content then please at least do some kind of lore summary of those questlines or record it as offline episodes if you're afraid it would be boring stream content ;[
I might sound like a XIV zealot but the plan to skip direcly to 6.0 after 2.0 - 2.55 is abhorrent.
We love you wp, also the book reading sounds awesome
It's a fun story I don't view that as a problem at all. I would find LPing Phoenix wright fun, too!
Your Grimrock series was so good
The Castlevania anime is just ughhhh soooo goood. I can't wait for the next season (for the sequel) to come out in Jan 2025!!
Season 1 was the best! Then it weakened but still not bad imo!
I am here for your really good lore ideas and those got me interested in gw2 story and led me to buy gw1 to play it.
I know you are not only lore guy but lots more. I will be happy to watch more content if its interesting to me.
I find it hard to go through streams basically because of their length and dead air and content/watch time ratio, I am one of those that prefer content full videos
Ff14 is sadly not for me. I tried to get into it and after gw2, ff14 movement and character controller are mind numbing for me. I would gladly watch a lore summary of ff14
I hope you consider doing a playthrough of the other elder scrolls games, the last one you did a few years back was good fun
On board with the anime review!!!
Oh that's pretty crazy actually. Did you go on to EW etc?
Yes, EW released about 2 days after I finished Shadowbringers so I just went straight into it. I'm about halfway through Dawntrail.
nice that sounds really exciting. Also, have you ever tried wow or think about giving it a try?
I'm well excited the FF14 playthrough! I consider myself a big Final Fantasy fan but 14 is a blind spot for me. I played a bit before any expansions and remember being asked to do the leviathan fight but needed to do an hours-long quest chain to even unlock the fight.
You looking to cover other games is music to my ears
Would you consider becoming a curator on Steam? Might be a good way to get some flow from there to the channel? I'd love to follow you there too as I love the opinions you have on games.
WP FF16 just recently came out on pc please do a play through I love all your FF lets plays.
I really remember the grimrock days fondly :)
Shame they haven't made another blobber!
Good luck with all your upcoming projects!🙂
looking forward to the 14 content wp
As a long time gw1 fan and of your content, i am VERY curious to see your take on ff14 (especially endwalker's story)
Last year i abandoned gw2 in exchange of ff14 and im glad i did it. It felt like i had been in an abusive relationship with gw2 since the start.
I wish you still did your old style guild wars videos. Loved listening to your lore talk, but i cant watch 3 hour streams.
I can't wait for the FFXIV playthrough, as someone else who was very sceptical and bounced off the beginning of that game, I also slowly fell in love with it.
As a potato I hope you're playing a Lalafel 🥔
Not on my life!
@@WoodenPotatoes 😂
That's super sweet/nice of you.
Looking forward to FF! Have u given ESO a try? ESO feels very similar to gw2 in so many ways, and the stories are really good. I feel like you'll like it!
ESO is one of those things I'd love to give a shot once Endwalker is done :D (And maybe the first "Let's Read"? )
@@WoodenPotatoes Lets fkin go ~
More GW1 pls :)
I know this is a long shot, but is there any chance of you going back to your ff12 series?
It's my favorite series you have done to date.
What's with the skins on Lys?
Spearfishing pirate!
