All we need now is Linus through the ages.
Just go and watch old videos...
which means how many pair of sandals he had through the years since LMG started, which is two.
His balls through the ages. RIP linus's balls.
Yeah, but he forgot the GTX 745
No one cares about my feelings D:
I seriously would watch a biography on him
do 10 years of integrated graphics
danielbatmanj so you want an amd a series comparison?
peesant
This is a cool idea, but Linus should wait for Raven Ridge APUs with their on board VEGA GPUs.
an Intel HD/Iris comparison would also be nice
wow i got top comment on a LTT vid...
this is prob the biggest accomplishment of my life lmao
I wonder if he would do another video 10 years later with the 2080 being the ancient GPU.
aslong as you rince your 2080 thoroughly with water after every use i think it should stand the test of time. i keep a dipping bucket of water next to my open case pc just to dip it every 30 minutes or so then plug it back in
@@jacoblyalls4026 Yes this is absolutely a joke, Just a general rule of thumb, unless an electronic is listed as water PROOF, then never put it near water. even "Water Resistant" electronics are a gimmick and should never be deliberately put in water, i've seen alot of products claim they are resistant to water, only for them to fail and break on contact with a slight splash or very shallow dip.
I see how you could be confused by my joke though because Some computers are Water cooled, Both the GPU and CPU can utilize water cooling. But the water never comes into contact with the electronics. where the stupid remark i made about dipping it into water directly would more than likely break it. unless you manage to completely dry it off before plugging it back in.

But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” i can bet money that you are an expert in some other subject and could make a fool of me or gametime in that subject matter. it takes a smart person to admit they don't know something and ask for the correct answer. that's why i didn't judge you..gametime is an asshole

Update: I finally caved and I bought a 2070
he missed gtx 960. Look at the server cards. nVidia Grid.
me: buy rtx 2070 super
In a short amoubt of time there is probably gonna be an better version of the 2080 ti wich is gonna be the bridge between the titan rtx and the named 2080 ti, beein the perfect 4k 60+ maxed out gaming card...
Like the 11gb of vram crush something like 1440p, but some 4k games want more then 11 gb of vram and the radeon VII might get better then the 2080ti in some memory intense gamen, but just if it is maxed out (cuz of the 16gb HBM2 RAM)...
@@osbombo5501 That'll probably be the rumored Ampere series.
I've gotta hand it to Linus........ his narrating skills are off the charts. Folks don't realize this, but, if Linus were to narrate in his normal speech pattern, a lot of what he's saying would go in one ear, and out the other. However, he's developed some whacky way of narrating that ensures even the most illiterate comprehend what he's saying, and remember it.
Based Shady i honestly hate that part. Its whats making me want to stop watching.
@BitzenBitez TechQuest Yet, you're still here....... I'm not saying I like it, or that anybody likes it for that matter. I'm simply saying there's a right and a wrong way to go about communicating certain information via UA-cam. There's obviously different methods , styles and techniques. However, they're all meant to serve the same purpose.
You mean he's a complete hack who has no idea who he's talking to and is going to pander for views?
I agree, he is very good at explaining complicated tech jargon in a simplified way, this explains why he is an extremely successful youtuber. 5 years ago with his wacky coloured hair he was good but now hes just a professional.
Bat Man yes exactly he is just a little greedy annoying inbreed.. he doesn’t even write his own material cause he is not a smart educated guy like his videos suggest and obviously does not give credit to the writer.
Linus has racks of GPUs sitting there just for show. I only have integrated graphics.
He's rich, you're poor, as simple as that
He's own a company that reviews and publishes information about these video cards and therefore received free samples that he is only allowed tor use for testing and reviewing at his office
@Yoghesh R
lol I have an AMD Radeon HD 8490 1GB card xD
I have a box of GPUs sitting around, but they only go up until around 2009 (excepting my 750 Ti).

This series is actually gonna be insane once you think about it, when they redo it in the next decade. The 1080 Ti and Vega 64 are gonna be at the bottom of the stack for their respective companies, and just a couple years after those videos are released LTT can actually do a "10 YEARS of INTEL Video Cards Compared!" video.
I can't wait for that day
Wait no longer. Check the videos.

470 and 480 were full of problems from the Nvidia stock. It took all of the AIB partners to save them.
8800GTX was the card that really beat anything one could put against it. and then they made 8800 GTX ultra
my 480 got so hot it melted the case card slot tool less clamps in my Cooler Master Centurion 534. I'm glad I saw it before something bad happened, I cut a window in the side panel and after I noticed it I screwed it in and have ever since that debacle.

NVIDIA didn't skip the gtx 800 series , it put them in laptops(860m). just like Intel did with the 5000 series CPUs
800m series was kepler still so its either a skip or a rebrand.
800-820m: fermi, 840-850m: maxwell
860m: maxwell and kepler
870m: kepler
880m: kepler.
Toms Tech lol Fermi in 800 series :o
Similar to AMDs HD 8000 series. Reserved for OEM rebrands, APU graphics and mobile graphics.
Intel 5000 series were desktop too. Search i5-5675c for example.
You didn't mention the best part about the 10 Series. It introduced the ability to put the FULL power of the cards in laptops, no more trash "m" chips.
KH3player Maxwell had that already. Gtx 980s were on some laptops.
KH3player Well max Q better than the 900m series but it is similar to the level below it
Edit: autocorrected to quinoa for some reason
KH3player I remember my first PC gaming experience. It was a laptop with a GT 740m. I struggled to get even 40fps on lowest settings on most older games at 720p, fuck me if I wanted to play any new AAA titles. It was complete and utter crap.
RayzeTheDragon I had an acer v3 571 with i3 2310m and hd 3000. Skyrim at 720p lowest around 15fps.
I still have that but I tried overclocking it for giggles after I bought a new laptop and killed it. Oc worked for one boot and then it died :D
It was nice to see all these old cards. Some were pretty familiar.
I had a 560TI, a 690, a 780TI, a 980TI and then I switched to AMD. My I bought the 690 with the launch of BF4 I believe and I was so disappointed in all the Micro Stuttering, that I bought a EVG 780TI Kingpin a couple of weeks later. The 980TI was still used up until the end of Nov this year. My first AMD Card in a long, long time. I had almost 2 decades ago a X700, a X800GTO² and a X1600XT before switching to a 8800GT.
7:19 He predicted Nvidia's Super cards!
*checks linus' eyes to see if he looks at script*
Gaaaaaaaay!
what about gtx 690 or titan black!, (or even titan z) or are you guys just not covering dual GPU chips, but that still wouldn't make sense as you didn't include the titan black!
or just the main gpu of the year?
Titans are kind of their own weird entity. I think they just wanted to compare the main GPU (or two) from each generation. Otherwise if you included them, then why not the 970 and 1050Ti and so on and the video ends up being an hour long.
Titans are the big "F*** u" to your face cards. Nvidia purposely gimp the new gen flagship cards with mid-tier GPU chips. I.E as seen on Linus's explanation on the GTX 680(GK104) at 8:03 . They use the flagship GPU chips(Gx100s or the 102) on the Titan, as "Nvidia felt we don't need such a big jump on a new gen so we will milk you becos we can!"
ok thanks buddy
I think the original titan was good value. the fastest single card solution at the time was a 680 which is getting on the slow side of todays cards. the titan was the same speed as a 780 but with 6gb. so if you got the titan when it came out you'd still have a card that could play modern titles 'ok'. this gives it has a longer life span before it needs to be upgraded. at least thats how I view good value
I lived through all of this technical revolution. It’s amazing to think that I was able to see the golden age of the GPU.
Please do an updated video! I'd love to see the inclusion of the rtx cards. I promise to watch the video at least 10 more times than I watched this one!
Why didint you talk about the good old GTX 690 :(
or 9600 GT 1GB version
GhostInforno45 because the 690 was two neutered 680's on one card, not a single GPU, or else they would have had to do all the other dual gpu cards, not to mention that because it was air cooled the 690 ran like a furnace and performance much worse than 680's in sli, their next and last attempt at dual gpu was the Titan Z at $3000 which was a massive fail, the $1500 295x2 was 35-25% faster at half the price
what about 690?
omgwtf696969 Ah, thought this was a comparison of the top cards, that would also explain why he left the Titan cards out
***** I know that
***** Understood
The same reason of not including the Titan Z
Aquacelot I think you'll find that a GPU and a video card are the same thing.... synonyms.

Ahh that legendary 8800GT
I felt so cool with that card. Ah yeah got dat 512MB model! lol
Driant 8800 GT was enough to run Crysis on 720p projector.
I remember finding that card in a random drawer back in high school. The teacher said I could have it because it didn't work. Plugged it into my computer and it worked fine. I was so excited to finally be able to play Microsoft flight simulator x!
Best bang for the buck card in history I'm. It did as much as the GTX for about less than half the price.
I still have my evga 8800GT. It has a lifetime warranty and if I'm ever in need of something I bust it out. I've RMAd it twice the most recent time about two years ago and they STILL HONOR THE WARRANTY.
Which is why I always go evga if I get a Nvidia card. Can't top that customer service. RMAing a 10 year old card still no issues.
Glorious as it was, AMD was there within a couple months to match performance at half the cost.
HD4850 was more impressive, bang for buck.
But the gtx580 did not ship with 2/4gb of vram it shiped in 1.5/3gb!!!
True. 680 shipped with 2/4 GB and 290X with 4/8 GB.
Great vid, but you can tell that in certain tests the later GPUs like the GTX 1080 and 1080ti were being heavily CPU limited by the stock clocked 5960X, as evidenced by the lack of seperation between the 1080 and 1080ti in DX9 Heaven Benchmark, Metro: Last Light Redux, Bioshock Infinite, and Half Life 2.
In reality the 1080ti should be at least 27-30% faster on average in all tests (vs the 1080) if not constrained by the CPU's single threaded performance and the API used, but I understand it had to be standardized to the lowest supported API for the sake of the older cards. An OC to 4.5+ GHz on the 5960X could have helped to increase the lead of the 1080ti, it should easily break over 1000 FPS in HL2 with 1080p Maximum settings.
Of course it's 3 minutes longer than the AMD one, clear LMG bias

Yeah I noticed it too... Sounds like Deadmau5 or something. Wouldn't be surprised
It's ephixa losing you
@@stalledrelic2838 thanks man, It's rare someone helps another out after a year lol
The music in the background is Laura brehm -losing you
I had some of these cards, 9800 GTX+ I still have stored at my parents house. Good times.
I really liked this video. It's so darn good and well edited.
Aaah... the good ol' times when 20fps was something WORTHY...yep.
"Oh bro look i for 15fps" "thats sick bro";)
Ayeee, Ephixia playing in the background.

That's foreshadowing right there for ya
Linus is the type of guy to custom water cool his sleeved cables
You gotta keeps those electrons cool.

my very first graphics card was a 8800 gts, still have it sitting on my shelf as an antique, at the time I didn't have a clue about pc gaming and only wanted a video card so I could have two monitors after using dual monitors in my first ever job and having my eyes openened, I took my dell dimension 5100 over to the 'pc for less' shop and asked for a dual monitor card and was told to come back in half an hour. The card I originally paid for didn;t work inside the dell and he gave me the upgrade to an 8800 gts for nothing, he had to cut a bit off the gpu to make it fit as well. COD 4 was all the rage back then on pc as well.
My first discreet graphics card was a 6600 Gt back when I was 14 & Radeon seemed like a neck to neck competitor and superior even, then updated to a dual GPU Radeon 6990 in 2011 which I never happened to push to the limit with games and got outdated quickly with poor crossfire support, now I have a 2080 Ti which I received today. Feels completely worth it after such a gap of 7 years in purchases!
i have that 8800 gtx in one of my older builds, it performed pretty well i have to say
I can't wait to see competition in the GPU / CPU markets again. I love how us consumers get the best out of the competition between Team Green and Team Red. I honestly can't wait for HMB2, i9 and Threadripper.
h3h3_Shade i9?
Intel be releasing I9 series soon, thus making everyone's I7s not that shiny anymore.
stella fodelianaki it was announced some days ago
SpeedFreak Thought about looking at ryzen? If your thinking about a cpu upgrade the r5 1600 is a good shout 👍
SpeedFreak - And not everyone buys for gaming! i9 will be a content creation/workstation monster(albeit a VERY expensive one).
Lol I have a gtx 285 in my room
Gt 730 here
Gtx none existant here
Lol I have no computer
1070ti here
Gt8800
You should do an updated version for the 4000 series.
Fun fact: they also used 300 series cards in specialty production consoles. We just upgraded our L5 lighting console to windows, and that puppy has a GTX 310 card in it... it was like finding a unicorn :)
Where can i buy the sweeter that Linus was wearing? It's real nice!
Whens scrapyard wars ep. 2? :P
Scrapyard Wars comes out on saturdays
oh alright😂 ty
No problem :P SYW has always been saturdays ;)
It's already been posted on Floatplane Club (early access platform) though
Found that floating around the internets somewhere, not sure if it still works
11:56 dang dude i rlly thought he was gonna talk abt me card the gt 1030. guess im too poor to have my card mentioned lol
>pararell universe where AMD kept up
Well that didnt aged up so well
Are you saying AMD has a video card on par with a 2080Ti?
@@omnimoeish the only cards AMD has no cards to compete for are GTX 1660 Ti and rtx 2080 ti, yet. Most likely they will release Rx 5500, 5600, 5800 and maybe even 5900 cards.
@@omnimoeish www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-Pro-Vega-II-Duo-displaces-the-NVIDIA-Titan-RTX-to-become-the-world-s-most-powerful-GPU-but-don-t-expect-to-game-on-it-anytime-soon.423036.0.html
Well, seems they have a card that surpasses the 2080ti and RTX titan...
AMD have slow gpu's what can't be compared to Nvidia AMD's best efforts defeated the normal 2070 aka 2060 Super. Nvidia has 4 better gpu's on consumer platform the 2070 Super the 2080 the 2080 Super and the 2080TI.
@@strohhuttv8848 2070 super and Rx 5700 XT trade blows in a veriety of games so only 3 cards. Considering AMD hasn't even released all of the Rx 5xxx cards, that's pretty good but Nvidia will also be coming out with new GPUs so AMD needs to hurry up
omg that thumbnail is going to be stuck in my mind.
FOREVER.
lolol
The RIVA TNT2 is where it’s at
I had a Vanta, not sure if that was the same chipset.
I've got one of those somewhere, interestingly it is branded as Creative Labs
Love your content. Good work!
i remember the old build videoes where you only used the best of the best 780ti like they were some RTX Titan XRT superior card
I just realised a lot of folks here don't understand humour with sarcasm.
Wait, are you saying there's something newer than my GeForce 2??
My very first GPU was a Kepler OG Titan - even though my Sager laptop I sold to fund that had dual 680m's (I learned the hard way 680 and 680m are not equal)
The 9800 gt gtx and gx+ we're my favorite cards even into the 200 series gtx!
I have a 9509 gt
