For anyone watching now/rewatching now (January 29th, 2024): the current slowest runner is SAPIRE who did a 14 day 2 hours 27 minutes 22 seconds 690 milliseconds run, translating to 338 hours n almost 30 minutes. Which means that 999 has yet to happen, or has yet to be verified if it has happened. The second place is 5 days 8 hours aka 128 hours by JackTate. Sapire did it on Normal mode, JackTate did it on Hard. Both happened a bit over a year ago. (If u wanna look urself, it's the Any% Glitchless category)
I think slow running should have it's own category, but there should be some rules. 1 you cannot endanger yourself. You have to live your daily life whatever it happens to be, in despite of the run. 2 you cannot log off. It has to be a consecutive run. 3 you cannot pad with afk time. You have to stay active in the game. Maximum afk time per break should be 8-12 hours. 4 once submitted, you have to post time stamps in the description of when your afk times start. List them by number in consecutive order. (I.E "First afk time: 8:00:00 in. Second afk time, 15:00:00 hours in." Etc etc. It is possible that an end time may be required too, it depends on how much easier this actually makes it for mods to find the afk times.) This way, mods dont have to search for years for how long you've spent afk. This type of run would likely require you to keep a log book.
I want to see a slowrun competition with more relaxed rules, so runners are allowed to save and come back later. The object would be to maximize in-game time spent before beating the ender dragon. By letting runners take breaks, it would discourage idling: because there is no theoretical limit on the top time, runners that idle will get bored and quit before those that don’t, leading to a tortoise & hare situation. It would basically be a competition to see who can have the most fun in a MC let’s play without beating the game. And verification would be as simple as showing the stats screen with the in-game timer at the beginning and end of each session.
There are some games where it can take 20+ hours to beat, mostly long RPG games with 100% completion. The 100% category of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, also takes more than one day to beat.
There are actually quite a few. The 100% category of Animal Crossing can hit 19 hours. The one I know best is the Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories 100% category which was over 100 hours, but now is 70, and they let you do it in segments.
For the mad lads thinking about the legendary 999hr run, that is approximately 41.625 days straight. This is also assuming that when they say 999hr is the max, that means it has 0 min and 0 seconds. The only run I believe capable of doing this with a purpose for being this long is doing a getting to the farlands% then beat the ender dragon. For those who don’t know what the farlands are, look up Antvenom’s videos on the farlands.
@@notekatha there are mods that can re-enable them in future versions. But I don’t know if that extends to 1.18, since the video that Antvenom made about the mod came out well before 1.18 released, and I know that 1.18 drastically changed how terrain generation works. But since the record boards use 1.16, I think there is a version of the mod that supports it.
I had an experience like this once myself. It's gonna sound like shilling, and it kinda is. Not exactly a deliberate slow run, but definitely a *slow run.* The game Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords was a game I loved playing on my R4 on the DS, and when I found out it had a PC port I decided "fuck it, I'm making a category for this." And since categories do require a video, I decided to speedrun it, little more than a glorified quick playthrough as I grinded monsters, died, went up to take a piss, had some lunch, and rambled for 7 hours until I finally finished the first speedrun of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. In a few months someone took 3 hours off my time, and I laughed at how bad I am at the game.
As someone who has cooked dinner during the cut scenes of wr attempts I feel personally attacked by this. For real though another great video and loved the steam in prep for this!
It's one thing if a speed-run just takes a long time to complete due to it's nature (like Twilight Princess Low%), but we shouldn't be encouraging people to upload what are essentially full on let's plays to the leader-boards, as that defeats the whole "games done quick" spirit of speed-running in the first place.
In ascending order of how much people are wasting their lives, the ranks are as follows: -People who watch edited speedrunning videos -People who make edited speedrunning videos -People who watch actual speedruns -People who do actual speedruns -People who moderate the speedrun forum -People who watch slowrun videos -People who make slowrun videos I have spoken.
I would love to imagine a 100 hour speedrun that at the end opens the game files and puts themselves into the credits, making the mods have to sit through all of that.
this was such a fun stream I had a great time bullying people over their awful houses and no shower strats 😎 really hope you do something like this again!
a slow run for roblox doors would be very intresting due to anti stalling mechanics such as the "dread" entity that spawns after 8 minutes in a normal room and 1 hour in a boss room
I feel like it would be fun to go for specifically second place for a bunch of games. It'd be a lot more specific in terms of the time you needed. There should be a leaderboard for most second place speedruns
IF I were to do a slow run or have a category for slow runs, I think the rule set I would use would be. 1) Build a house 2) Build a semiautomatic or automatic produce farm 3) Build a semiautomatic or automatic mob farm 4) Build a village trading hall 5) Build an iron farm 6) Build a raid farm (?) 7) Find or attempt to find every structure in the game (Village, Raid Tower, Igloo, Witch Hut, Woodland Mansion, etc) 8) Visit or attempt to visit and establish a small house in every biome 9) Build a neither highway (can help with number 8) 10) Obtain every obtainable block in the version being played 11) Build a museum to show off said blocks 12) Obtain full neitherite gear 13) Locate the end portal 14) Expand neither highway to make easy access to end portal 15) Defeat End Dragon 16) Obtain Dragon Egg and add to museum 17) Defeat Guardian and Elder Guardian 18) Defeat Wither 19) Defeat Warden (17-19 can be interchanged in any order) 20) Obtain Elytra 21) Obtain all advancements 22) Once everything has been achieved display full gear, items had and elytra in museum 23)watch end credits again fully through (reading outload if comfortable/have the means) End time At least by having this rule set there would be definitive goals so that it's not just people doing nothing for hours just to pad the run time. I guess you could essentially call this run the 100% run
i got idea.. aasrsg (all adv speedrun random seed glitchless) allow sleeping and taking breaks between playing, so if i play another 2000 days world and record it all then it would be weeks long and more recognizeable than top run because it would be longest run submitted by far mile
My slowrun in “Ooh Aah and You: Fetch a Fruit” got topped (bottomed?) by a guy who went afk for 2 hours and the mods still accepted it. Well over 2 years ago but I am still mad
_Slowruns must be inefficient, not pointless._ *Slowruns should have those rules:* No afk for more then 5 minute/hour. Must progress at least one step of story per minute, if there is one. (Or side quest)(including moving is direction of target) Deliberately failing at actions is forbidden. Repeating same stuff without the reason is forbidden. Modding game is forbidden.
@@AllExistence The problem with these rules is that it's not healthy for speedrunners to try to be last: it encourages them to not sleep or eat for longer and longer periods of time. I would be in favor of allowing breaks just to sleep or eat.
@@flupeleva1248 They get 5 mins to eat every hour. No sleep. Otherwise it's not a slowrun anymore. It's just wasting time. Besides, i don't believe they can last entire day if they forced to progress the game at least a little every minute.

As far as slowrunning in other games goes, F-zero GX has a stage I would like to see some slowrun attempts on. Chapter 6. The objective of the chapter is to reach the end without dipping below a certain speed. The track layout is designed to make that difficult, with pedestrian vehicles to maneuver around, slim parts of the track, dirt sections that reduce speed unless you boost, and so on. What I would like to see, is a slowrun that tries to stay as close to the minimum speed as possible, while driving on the outside of turns and zigzagging across the track on straights to get the worst time possible. Funnily enough, doing a slowrun like this would actually be harder than getting the Max Speed speedrun, since in the speedrun you just need to maintain max speed, murder pedestrians for boost power, and take the best lines. The precise, constant button presses to keep speed low and inefficient, swerving lines would make the slowrun a nightmare, between getting as close to the walls as possible without touching them and avoiding the pedestrians that are in the way. The dirt section in the end could be particularly bad, since boost timing maintain the lowest speed while risking blowing up on the dirt is a notable risk.
Since the title said "NO SHOWERS" I was thinking it was a minecraft 'speed'run where the run ends when it rains in-game, and people tried to get as long of a time as possible.
the issue with making a separate category for slowruns in the leaderboards is that eventually people are gonna be motivated to do the exact same thing slowrunners did originally and speedrun the slowrun category, negating the solution and bringing us back to square one
I find it funny how spiff brings up health as a reason to not verify these when people who compete for the fastest times spend even longer than these guys just practicing
The longest time I've taken to beat Minecraft was 5000+ hours in this Building world of mine where I realised I wanted an Elytra to help me with building, so I went and absolutely destroyed the Ender Dragon, just because I wanted to be able to build aesthetic builds easier. It was really fun.
In my opinion, the moderators of each game should come up with reasonable guidelines for how long a run can be before it gets automatically rejected due to being too long. I figure for most games, 16 hours is a reasonable upper limit unless the run happens to take longer than that normally. But that can be handled on a per-game basis, obviously. Something like whichever is longer between 16 hours and twice as long as the #1 run. That way, even if people are trying to finish the run within frames of the upper cutoff, it wouldn't represent a huge health risk.
I agree about the health risks, but the same can also be said about actually trying to get the fastest time in a game. Both can damage you health if done for too long.
I'm just going to say that I think the best way to start a slow run is, "Hi, I've never run this game before, so let's start the timer and see how it goes." Timer starts. Player then begins downloading and installing the game.
NikedMan's speedrun watching T90 casting an Age of Empires II pro game starring The Viper, within Poppy Playtime, had me in tears X3 You're lucky he wasn't watching him cast a Forest Nothing!
You've also gotta consider that the moderators need to watch the whole run in order to verify, and lets just say that if the lowest time is 100hrs then the moderator is gonna have a fun time.
What a chad, he showed the cooking. I was literally like: "i i were dumb enough to attempt this, it would most definitely become a cooking stream" and here we are
It's funny for 2 seconds but really it's just a lack of quality control. Old SDA might have been too strict but this is pushing what should be (in my personal OPINION) allowed or at least shoved in a separate category.
Slow speedruns are funny the first few times but the gimmick wears off real quick if you are the one having the verify the runs for a speed run leaderboard. I feel like once a category gets enough runs, some sort of limit for length is a good idea. Like if the average speed is 30 minuets, 1hr+ runs aren't allowed.
Honestly that would really kill the point cause then everyone would just play normally to get to the 1h point then just finish and be done and then we would have 40 speedruns all that are the same time. I get your point but i honestly think it's either needs to be allowed or not at all because limiting the time wouldn't really work.
@@faimynth6030 I suggested a max length to give an easy way to judge runs that can be clearly listed in the rules and isn't subjective at all. I figured that double the average run length is a good enough range to allow people actually serious about submitting runs to do so, while greatly reducing the amount of time spent on troll runs. Oh and personally I don't think multiple people trying to tie for last place is a problem. It's obviously not ideal, but it's not that different from people trying to get the longest run submitted, and at least those tied runs would be easier to verify.
Man I feel bad for that small ant guy, I hear he’s always at the bottom of the leaderboards. To make it worse I hear he always is trying his best but he just can’t. I saw a Mario speed run where he got a 69 hours and 42 minutes run feels bad

Sapire did it on Normal mode, JackTate did it on Hard. Both happened a bit over a year ago. (If u wanna look urself, it's the Any% Glitchless category)

Me realising how insane these people are: “imma die if I try.”

It is possible that an end time may be required too, it depends on how much easier this actually makes it for mods to find the afk times.)
This way, mods dont have to search for years for how long you've spent afk.

It’s almost like watching a UA-cam series but they don’t end the episodes. They leave the camera running and come back a couple days later
*Hey guys I did some things off camera*
Off camera:
Are there any games where a legitimate speedrun goes long enough to require sleep? (and god forbid showers)
There are some games where it can take 20+ hours to beat, mostly long RPG games with 100% completion.
The 100% category of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, also takes more than one day to beat.
The FNaF: Security Breach 600% category allows breaks since you have to play the game 6 times at 100%.
Baten Kaitos 100% category WR is 337h 55m
Hollow knight low precent true ending takes like, 40 hours
Don't the farlands not even exist anymore? In the modern versions of the game.
I think the Frenchman was my favorite out of all of em. He said no showers and thought what if they don’t believe me

🤓
As someone who has cooked dinner during the cut scenes of wr attempts I feel personally attacked by this. For real though another great video and loved the steam in prep for this!
How is trying to speedrun a game for years any more healthy than doing a single long speedrun instead?
Short term damage versus long term damage. Depends what you prefer

I kinda want to do one. Just do normal life, sleep for like 10 hours, have breakfast, go to school, go to gym, the bar. And sometimes play minecraft.
what about instead of speedrunning the most optimized seed, someone finds the least optimized seed to run. I think that'd turn out pretty nice.
In ascending order of how much people are wasting their lives, the ranks are as follows:
-People who watch edited speedrunning videos
-People who make edited speedrunning videos
-People who watch actual speedruns
-People who do actual speedruns
-People who moderate the speedrun forum
-People who watch slowrun videos
-People who make slowrun videos
I have spoken.
I would love to imagine a 100 hour speedrun that at the end opens the game files and puts themselves into the credits, making the mods have to sit through all of that.
The irony is that these runs are still faster than me when trying to speedrun the game legit XD
this was such a fun stream I had a great time bullying people over their awful houses and no shower strats 😎 really hope you do something like this again!
a slow run for roblox doors would be very intresting due to anti stalling mechanics such as the "dread" entity that spawns after 8 minutes in a normal room and 1 hour in a boss room
I feel like it would be fun to go for specifically second place for a bunch of games. It'd be a lot more specific in terms of the time you needed. There should be a leaderboard for most second place speedruns
IF I were to do a slow run or have a category for slow runs, I think the rule set I would use would be.
1) Build a house
2) Build a semiautomatic or automatic produce farm
3) Build a semiautomatic or automatic mob farm
4) Build a village trading hall
5) Build an iron farm
6) Build a raid farm (?)
7) Find or attempt to find every structure in the game (Village, Raid Tower, Igloo, Witch Hut, Woodland Mansion, etc)
8) Visit or attempt to visit and establish a small house in every biome
9) Build a neither highway (can help with number 8)
10) Obtain every obtainable block in the version being played
11) Build a museum to show off said blocks
12) Obtain full neitherite gear
13) Locate the end portal
14) Expand neither highway to make easy access to end portal
15) Defeat End Dragon
16) Obtain Dragon Egg and add to museum
17) Defeat Guardian and Elder Guardian
18) Defeat Wither
19) Defeat Warden (17-19 can be interchanged in any order)
20) Obtain Elytra
21) Obtain all advancements
22) Once everything has been achieved display full gear, items had and elytra in museum
23)watch end credits again fully through (reading outload if comfortable/have the means)
End time
At least by having this rule set there would be definitive goals so that it's not just people doing nothing for hours just to pad the run time.
I guess you could essentially call this run the 100% run
Small ant is one of my favorite speedrunners, he's very entertaining
i got idea.. aasrsg (all adv speedrun random seed glitchless) allow sleeping and taking breaks between playing, so if i play another 2000 days world and record it all then it would be weeks long and more recognizeable than top run because it would be longest run submitted by far mile

Pro move: wait entire year by end portal after getting geared perfectly and after waiting a year defeat the dragon.
And then have your run denied
your capture card dies
My slowrun in “Ooh Aah and You: Fetch a Fruit” got topped (bottomed?) by a guy who went afk for 2 hours and the mods still accepted it. Well over 2 years ago but I am still mad

As one of the Minecraft slowrun record holders I can say that slow running is just fun because you can be the best at being the worst.
This video was uploaded on the 22.02.2022 (DD/MM/YYYY) which is a rare mirror date! :)
Don't worry Spiff this summer I'm going for the dreaded 200 hour long minecraft slowrun
imagine leaving your computer on for a month and a half, only for the power to cut out before you can beat the dragon and verify the run
_Slowruns must be inefficient, not pointless._
*Slowruns should have those rules:*
No afk for more then 5 minute/hour.
Must progress at least one step of story per minute, if there is one. (Or side quest)(including moving is direction of target)
Deliberately failing at actions is forbidden.
Repeating same stuff without the reason is forbidden.
Modding game is forbidden.
@mcchego If you don't play the game, don't waste people's time.
@@AllExistence The BOTW 100% speedrun was so long that the mods allowed people to take a break, so I don't see the issue
@@mr.potato It depends on a game. Why don't you mention Persona 5 then? Anyway, break wasn't counted in the time _unlike there_

The dirt section in the end could be particularly bad, since boost timing maintain the lowest speed while risking blowing up on the dirt is a notable risk.
dedication and endurance can be seen as a skill in itself
Since the title said "NO SHOWERS" I was thinking it was a minecraft 'speed'run where the run ends when it rains in-game, and people tried to get as long of a time as possible.
Im at 1:47 LMAOOOO
the issue with making a separate category for slowruns in the leaderboards is that eventually people are gonna be motivated to do the exact same thing slowrunners did originally and speedrun the slowrun category, negating the solution and bringing us back to square one
* Someone should just have a “100 Days” play through while speedruning Lmao
I find it funny how spiff brings up health as a reason to not verify these when people who compete for the fastest times spend even longer than these guys just practicing
The longest time I've taken to beat Minecraft was 5000+ hours in this Building world of mine where I realised I wanted an Elytra to help me with building, so I went and absolutely destroyed the Ender Dragon, just because I wanted to be able to build aesthetic builds easier. It was really fun.
14:24 😂😂😂 that one cought me off gard
In my opinion, the moderators of each game should come up with reasonable guidelines for how long a run can be before it gets automatically rejected due to being too long. I figure for most games, 16 hours is a reasonable upper limit unless the run happens to take longer than that normally. But that can be handled on a per-game basis, obviously. Something like whichever is longer between 16 hours and twice as long as the #1 run.
That way, even if people are trying to finish the run within frames of the upper cutoff, it wouldn't represent a huge health risk.
Look at it this way:
Its called speedrun, not fastrun.... speed is a unit, and some people's speed isn't fast.
Its just a fact guys
I agree about the health risks, but the same can also be said about actually trying to get the fastest time in a game. Both can damage you health if done for too long.
Can't wait to see a video months down the road where Spiff has completed the 999 hour run. I will be waiting patiently until it happens.
I'm just going to say that I think the best way to start a slow run is, "Hi, I've never run this game before, so let's start the timer and see how it goes." Timer starts. Player then begins downloading and installing the game.
NikedMan's speedrun watching T90 casting an Age of Empires II pro game starring The Viper, within Poppy Playtime, had me in tears X3
You're lucky he wasn't watching him cast a Forest Nothing!
You've also gotta consider that the moderators need to watch the whole run in order to verify, and lets just say that if the lowest time is 100hrs then the moderator is gonna have a fun time.
999 hours into days is 41.63, that into weeks is 5.95 weeks, good luck

I would love to propose to the spreedrun website mods to create a alternative website for slowruns, so they could keep them separate.
All my Minecraft horse is doing is sitting in a boat in front of my furnaces.
I feel like the mods should keep allowing this, but make it against the rules to neglect your health, win-win
10:00 I can't hear a word, the whisper is too good
It's funny for 2 seconds but really it's just a lack of quality control. Old SDA might have been too strict but this is pushing what should be (in my personal OPINION) allowed or at least shoved in a separate category.
Yeah I’d be fine with that. Just put slow runs in their own category so it’s not flooding in on the normal speedruns

7:24 this is officially called the "Nether Frog" now.
I love how he showed smallant's intentional 0 star mario 64 run at 0:53
