Lyrics:
In a river the color of lead
Immerse the baby's head
Wrap her up in the News Of The World
Dump her on a doorstep, girl
This night has opened my eyes
And I will never sleep again
You kicked and cried like a bullied child
A grown man of twenty-five
Oh, he said he'd cure your ills
But he didn't and he never will
Oh, save your life
Because you've only got one
The dream has gone
But the baby is real
Oh, you did a good thing
She could have been a poet
Or, she could have been a fool
Oh, you did a bad thing
And I'm not happy
And I'm not sad
A shoeless child on a swing
Reminds you of your own again
She took away your troubles
Oh, but then again
She left pain
So, please save your life
Because you've only got one
The dream has gone
But the baby is real
Oh, you did a good thing
She could have been a poet
Or, she could have been a fool
Oh, you did a bad thing
And I'm not happy
And I'm not sad
Oh...
And I'm not happy
And I'm not sad
Oh...
And I'm not happy
And I'm not sad
If you are here congrats you have a good taste in music
And in movies !
shut up
My daughter sent me here
Thank you❤
😢 that's not what my husband thinks 💔
Rest in peace to the beautiful woman in this film, Anna Karina. 1940-2019. A true legend in the film industry.
The most hauntingly beautifull poetry set to music interpreted by a visually stunning film. This is art at it's purest and most moving and powerful.
This cinematography is great
R.I.P. Anna, you are in heaven now with your melancholy and sensitive appeal.
There'll never be another band like it.
NEVER!
Okay, but have you heard The Organ?
I'm not one to usually be so taken away by cinematography but this is absolutely wonderful.
How the Smith's fits into my life
This song is so damn amazing! Ugh!
Not as big as many of their more popular hits but my favorite Smiths song nevertheless.
I discovered this infatuatingly beautiful and sad film thanks to this video. Thank you very much.
Please tell me the name of this film!

this video
LOVELY
French film noir has this je ne sais quoi affinity with the music of smiths.
a face like a magnet as ec said
This is not the story of the track. The girl is left pregnant by a sailor who clears off and leaves her on her own
This song seems like it was made for the video
Kendall Roy edit brought me here
Can you guys recommend me smith songs like this one
Well i wonder💔
What movie is this edited from?
A taste of honey, the movie this song was based off of
Love the video. I'm more the tech type and always have trouble with artistic interpretation. I've already loved the song for years but can someone explain this video to me?
I'm not really big on explaining art, but It parallels the meaning of the song. It basically shows the struggle of a young woman, trying to do the best with what she is given.
So the woman was a "lady of the night"? Struggling for what? Love? Her esteem?
yes, she was a prostitute in the movie. I wish I could go more into detail but I really don't want to spoil the movie!!
