I think Don Bluth is at his best when he doesn't write comedy, I think he is better with darker and creepy stories, this is why people loved Land before time, Secret of Nimh and Fievel, they feel like more adult Disney films but without annoying songs and treated audiences with maturity, he was the anti Disney that was and still is too family friendly imo.
While I can look up to characters that just want to put a smile on your face, I feel like this troll was the most out of place character ever, all because he's just all smiles and happiness and rainbows. Like why live in a place where no one likes your happiness? The reason I ask is because he literally flew with the kids to a realm where there's nice trolls like him. Why not just live with them????? The problem with this film is there's so many unanswered questions.
Ah yes, Stanley! Doug from Nostalgia critic hates this character. He finds him very annoying and ugly. I agree! Nothing about him is cute or likable. Also, the moral he teaches to kids is WRONG! He said to follow their dreams and just believe, their problems will be fix. It doesn't worked like that! You can't just pray that your pet will come back to life or your parents will be together and expect it will happen. Life isn't magic! Only good points of this movie, the animation. She is beautiful! The music is pretty too :) The rest is boring or stupid.
Even My Little Pony Friendship is Magic did that message much better with morals and values saying that friendship is magic and what you dream of must be done by you working for it.

Ways they could've "possibly" improved this movie: Give some sentimental backstory as to WHY Stanley loves growing flowers, like maybe there's a missing lore about WHY trolls are SUPPOSED to be evil, as the evil ruler dictates. Maybe Stanley's backstory could be that his mother believed in creating beauty on Earth and got kicked out or killed due to corruption from the new queen. This would be a perfect explaination for why Stanley is so attached to having a green thumb and could explain why he's struggling with it, becuz he doesn't believe he can create beauty like his mother once did. Another thing they could've done was explain the rift between the "good" and "bad" trolls, there is nothing more boring than a villain who's evil just for the sake of being evil. Also, make the boy much older than the little sister. In fact, make them step siblings. Make him a teenager that is going through a rough time with his parents splitting up and his father remarrying to a woman that has a toddler. He has long forgotten how to be a happy child and becomes stuck with babysitting his toddler sister. Than along the way, he realizes how important his little sister actually is to him when he has to rescue her while befriending a friendly troll like Stanley. There you go: a perfect fix to create a more meaningful movie!

(Living flowers, sweet food, talking rainbows, etc.) Plankton even mentions that he is going to be sick too. Well this is basically the film version of it.
I love how when people harshly critique this movie they forget that it was obviously made for very small children, for toddlers, who dont need explanations for EVERYTHING. Why do we need to know why Stanley is good? Why do we need to know how magic works? Its not magic then. The point of magic is that it exists and thats IT. "Stanley is UGLY" yeah well maybe just maybe thats because HE'S A TROLL!!!! I really dont know what is hard to understand about that. Also in regards to Rosie, what is a TWO YEAR OLD supposed to sound like? What dialogue could she have had? Have you ever heard a Two year old child speak? Like ever? They sound just like her. Oh and her being afraid of a bug that is also pretty typical of a Two Year old child. Gus is FOUR his tantrums, his exclamations of "This is stupid!" match perfectly with a boy his age. Also...no character development? Are you kidding me? Gus goes from having a massive tantrum at the beginning of the movie when we first meet him to at the end of the movie asking his dad, POLITELY, if they can do something that he wants to do and what does he want to do? He wants to take the statue of Stanley to the Park hoping that maybe that will make things right and bring him back. Gus learns how to care about someone else other than himself or Rosie. He learns compassion. He does develop as a character. Young children watching this movie dont need to question everything like you people. I loved this movie when I was a kid and though I might be too old for it now I can still appreciate it for what it is. There is a story, its simple but that doesnt make it bad. As for a lesson. The lesson of the movie is that GOOD DEEDS mean more than Bad ones. GOOD WINS OVER BAD. Not that "MAGIC WILL SOLVE ALL OF YOUR PROBLEMS" who the hell grew up believing that? I sure didnt. But I knew that being GOOD, being KIND and being BRAVE were important. This movie also says to Fight for what you Believe in, Gus says it to Stanley and that if you dont then you will never have a Dream come true. You people need to listen to what is said sometimes.
@@rosemartasgaminghoard Sure if you don't make any filler scenes, scenes that don't make any sense, and messages that are too simplistic, dumbed down, and sugary sweet that can be too much for adults and even for young children.
@@kichiwas-hargan4775 it's a movie for 3 year olds at the oldest they don't need deep dives into the world or complexity. Like the Teletubbies were intellectually challenging.
The biggest thing that annoys me about the movie is how it completely botches and simplifies its environmental themes, even if it is very heavy handed. Both Stanley and Gnorga are the worst examples of this message. Stanley seems to only like plants and flowers because they're pretty, whereas Gnorga just hates them because she's a big meanie face. It could have been so much more compelling if the Trolls society simply ignored wildlife whereas Stanley wanted to save his home from pollution. Then it could have had more interesting parallels between human society and the world Stan inhabits.
GOOD VIDEO, a detail because Stanley lives with the bad trolls who obviously don't want him instead of the other trolls who look a lot like the one I suppose they are good at

Is there a chance to collaborate with either reviewer so we can enjoy reviewing together since they have a fun and informative discussion about the animation medium. This film has two Kennies. I am afraid of Brandon Tenold reviewing A Troll from Central Park as a cult film.
Yaaa this really is one of those films with amazing animation but barely any story I wish they’d spent the time instead making a dragons lair film instead of this
We certainly have an interesting movie here don't we? I personally have never seen this movie but after watching this movie I'll probably regret if I ever watch it because I probably won't think it's good.
3:33 I agree. Mine, for example, would have to be The Swan Princess. As a kid I enjoyed it, but years later I realize that I was a very dumb kid. 🤣 Really though, the story is pretty flimsy and the magic makes little to no sense. If you ever decide to review it, I want to see just how much you'd point out that makes no sense. 😂 22:25 I will pray for you. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For me I think it was Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Although I will admit that Swan Princess has some issues too. Mainly that Rothbart could have done ANYTHING ELSE to get what he wants.
I love Don Bluth movies: "The Small One", "The Secret of NIMH", "An American Tail", and "The Land Before Time" all stand the test of time as not only my favorite Don Bluth movies, but his BEST work. Movies like "All Dogs Go to Heaven", "Anastasia", "Titan A.E." also has a special place in my heart as some REALLY good movies - especially "Anastasia" (which COULD HAVE given Disney a run for its money, but it didn't), but if I had to pick Don Bluth at his lowest: its a four-way tie between "Rock-A-Doodle", "The Pebble and the Penguin", "Thumbelina", and *holding in my puke* "A Troll in Central Park" But this... THIS.... This movie was like if Bluth thought "say, that 'Barney the Dinosaur' (another Eldritch Abomination that needs to die, but another day for now) was doing something right". This is the guy that TOUGHENED our childhoods with dark movies with happy endings (noticably his movies are usually dark so long as he has a happy ending, which usually feels REALLY earned), but, with this… WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING??!! But, I digress. To those who like this movie (for reasons unknown) and the other movies I mentioned (that are Bluth's WORST), more power to ya and I'm glad YOU can enjoy them more than I can.
OH MY GOSH I watched this when I was little and it scared the shit out of me, but it was so bizarre and there was so little about it, I just decided it was some fever dream I had. I viscerally remember the tornado scene where the two kids were abandoning the troll while he was sleeping (?) and I just felt a wave of relief 😂 Like yes, go back to your normal life and please leave this nightmare behind. My gosh, this brought back... a lot lmao
also this is really weird but Stanley's thumb reminded me of an expression in Italy where saying that someone has a "green thumb" is used to describe someone who's good at gardening and stuff, I've no idea if anyone making the film knew about this or if it's a figure of speech for English speakers also, but this adds an odd layer of smartness to the film if your language happens to have that figure of speech.
@@giuliasole9878 well the guy in the review didn't seem to understand the reference and I never heard anyone use that expression in English so I assumed it just wasn't a thing for English speakers, my bad.
I remember when my parents put this movie on for me. I was about 5? I didn't have the words for it as a kid but I do now. This movie insulted my intelligence. I hated how the characters looked and whenever something bad happened to the kids or the troll I was so happy. 🤣 I really didn't like sitting through this as a kid.
You know, maybe that's why "An American Tail" became so acclaimed and successful. Steven Spielberg had the bigger say about the film, and we all know how well Spielberg makes movies (cough, cough, E.T., cough, Schindler-list, wheeze, Jaws)!

I don't think I agree on the "if the director thinks it's bad it's bad" argument, I mean the director of Majora's mask hated how the game turned out yet many think it's one of if not the best Zelda game, obviously this movie isn't good by any means, but the creator of something being dissatisfied with their products doesn't necessarily make said products bad, everyone hates the changes in the special editions of Starwars which George Lucas considers to be improvements over the original and made sure they were the only version avaliable for the pubblic while fans went out of their way to restore the original cut of the films, so clearly this rule isn't absolute.
Dude, I love your reviews but... ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN! That movie is a masterpiece. Granted, it's weird and kinda inappropriate, but man, I love every minute of it and is so unique. Idk, I think Bluth does have more bad than good movies to his name, but the good ones are so freaking good that I couldn't say he's overrated. And I will defend Anastasia till the day I die. Xdxdxd
I Agree. All Dogs Go To Heaven Is My Favorite Don Bluth Film, And Movie Of All Time. :) (It Deserves Much More Love And Attention!! 💗✨ I Know It Has A Audience And Fans. But, What I Mean..(If I'm Confusing You, A Bit) Is That, It Kinda Seems That It Doesn't Have The Attention, Love And Appreciation That Anastasia Gets. Lot of people act like All Dogs Go to Heaven is underrated. Just because he didn't mention it, doesn't necessarily mean it reflects that people often ignore it, I've seen so many people praise All Dogs go to Heaven a ton. If you ask me, I'll argue that An American Tail is more underrated, and people barely talk about An American Tail, even the Don Bluth fanbase, and it's baffling. You mentioned that without Spielberg and Lucas the only great film Don and Gary made is "The Secret of Nimh", but even that wasn't all them because that movie is based on a book called "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh"
I actually remember that I watched this, but I remember it as if it was a fever dream.
“A very bad troll…”
This is gonna be good. I cannot wait.
Titan AE may have bombed terribly but at least it was a step up to this shit
even as a kid i never liked this movie. i can find good aspects in don bluth's other pre Anastasia 90's movies but not with troll.
I actually like the villain song
am I the only one thinking that this animated movie has an environmental message or something?!
A very painfully forced enviromental message that is.
hey in 2 years it will be Central Park's 60th....... Birthday? Anniversary?
@3:32-3:41= and THIS (perhaps) was the mindset of the "people" that dared bring us "Elf Bowling: The Movie"! c'mon, RaisorBlade; you KNOW I'm right! BTW welcome back, dude!
Random fish guy: Oh brother this guy stinks! 5:30
I didn't mind the queen's song. Like I really wanted her to turn Stanley into stone so badly as a child, and those children as well.
Can we agree rosie is the cutest thing in the movie ?
Rockin review dude! 🎸🎸🎸 glad you had a fun vacation 🎸🎸🎸🎸
So…Remember the scene in SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Out of Water where Plankton goes inside SpongeBob’s mind, and sees all the sickly sweet and too cute things that he sees?
That’s a very fair comment amongst the sea of gulls in here. Thank you.
Okay, but this movie is too lighthearted, cheesy, and sappy compared to certain works that have themes that are more mature and dark.
@@kichiwas-hargan4775 so? What's wrong with that? Can't we have light hearted stories too?
@@rosemartasgaminghoard Sure if you don't make any filler scenes, scenes that don't make any sense, and messages that are too simplistic, dumbed down, and sugary sweet that can be too much for adults and even for young children.
@@kichiwas-hargan4775 it's a movie for 3 year olds at the oldest they don't need deep dives into the world or complexity. Like the Teletubbies were intellectually challenging.
This is an embarrassing movie for kids.
Goddamn it's been a while since I heard from you. Glad to see you're alright and still kicking.
i wish gus's arc should have been developed throughout the movie
Thanks for the video. This movie destroys happiness. Thanks for tearing it apart
I though this movie was a fever dream. Completely forgot about it until recently and am kinda just... dumbfounded? Like... this exists?!
my man has returned from his journey and training arc
GOOD VIDEO, a detail because Stanley lives with the bad trolls who obviously don't want him instead of the other trolls who look a lot like the one I suppose they are good at
*I need to lower my volume down just in case Raisor Blade starts to scream*
12:48-12:52: I am glad you mentioned AniMat and Saberspark. Is there a chance to collaborate with either reviewer so we can enjoy reviewing together since they have a fun and informative discussion about the animation medium. This film has two Kennies. I am afraid of Brandon Tenold reviewing A Troll from Central Park as a cult film.
Gnorga took control over Gus' thumb and used it to turn Stanley into stone- ? 🤨🧐
The "Mulan" remake can't be any worse than this movie. Right? 😅
Yaaa this really is one of those films with amazing animation but barely any story
I wish they’d spent the time instead making a dragons lair film instead of this
I remember watching this film once as a kid, and much like Teletubbies and Caillou I don't remember liking it all that much.
well could be worse you would've been reviewing a Bubsy cartoon
I personally thought Gnorga's theme was pretty catchy when I was little
We certainly have an interesting movie here don't we? I personally have never seen this movie but after watching this movie I'll probably regret if I ever watch it because I probably won't think it's good.
Amazing review 😊👍
Gus was voiced by Phillip Glasser who was the voice of Fievel, and he had to be like 16 when he did the movie.
The story feels like something I would have written when I was 12-15 (Yes, I had zero sense of writing at that age and I still kinda struggle with it)
3:33 I agree. Mine, for example, would have to be The Swan Princess. As a kid I enjoyed it, but years later I realize that I was a very dumb kid. 🤣
Really though, the story is pretty flimsy and the magic makes little to no sense. If you ever decide to review it, I want to see just how much you'd point out that makes no sense. 😂
22:25 I will pray for you. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For me I think it was Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Although I will admit that Swan Princess has some issues too. Mainly that Rothbart could have done ANYTHING ELSE to get what he wants.
I totally forgot Dom played Koos-a-la-goop-a-goop
I love Don Bluth movies: "The Small One", "The Secret of NIMH", "An American Tail", and "The Land Before Time" all stand the test of time as not only my favorite Don Bluth movies, but his BEST work. Movies like "All Dogs Go to Heaven", "Anastasia", "Titan A.E." also has a special place in my heart as some REALLY good movies - especially "Anastasia" (which COULD HAVE given Disney a run for its money, but it didn't), but if I had to pick Don Bluth at his lowest: its a four-way tie between "Rock-A-Doodle", "The Pebble and the Penguin", "Thumbelina", and *holding in my puke* "A Troll in Central Park"
But this... THIS....
This movie was like if Bluth thought "say, that 'Barney the Dinosaur' (another Eldritch Abomination that needs to die, but another day for now) was doing something right". This is the guy that TOUGHENED our childhoods with dark movies with happy endings (noticably his movies are usually dark so long as he has a happy ending, which usually feels REALLY earned), but, with this…
WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING??!!
But, I digress. To those who like this movie (for reasons unknown) and the other movies I mentioned (that are Bluth's WORST), more power to ya and I'm glad YOU can enjoy them more than I can.
The Land before Time’s Chomper.
@@altarush Okay?
OH MY GOSH I watched this when I was little and it scared the shit out of me, but it was so bizarre and there was so little about it, I just decided it was some fever dream I had.
I viscerally remember the tornado scene where the two kids were abandoning the troll while he was sleeping (?) and I just felt a wave of relief 😂 Like yes, go back to your normal life and please leave this nightmare behind. My gosh, this brought back... a lot lmao
also this is really weird but Stanley's thumb reminded me of an expression in Italy where saying that someone has a "green thumb" is used to describe someone who's good at gardening and stuff, I've no idea if anyone making the film knew about this or if it's a figure of speech for English speakers also, but this adds an odd layer of smartness to the film if your language happens to have that figure of speech.
it is a popular phrase that has existed for over a century and I don't think it is only Italian
I laughed at the commentary. XD This movie seems like such a nonsense.
When it comes to the live action Mulan movie, I refer to it as, "Arrow-kickingly bad."
You know, maybe that's why "An American Tail" became so acclaimed and successful. Steven Spielberg had the bigger say about the film, and we all know how well Spielberg makes movies (cough, cough, E.T., cough, Schindler-list, wheeze, Jaws)!
Spielberg has also made some crap, but that's another story
7:40 this scene makes me wonder if the storyboard artists even read their own script like come on there's flowers everywhere you morons!!!!!!!!
*THE KING WAS VOICED BY THE FUCKING DIRTY BUBBLE?!*
Omg my childhood movies wish they would make cartoon movies like this
Not even I will defend A Troll In Central Park. And my channel is dedicated to defending movies people consider bad.
3:37 that was me when I watched Mulan 2
Dang I haven't even seen this movie and it sounds like a fate worse than death LOL
Yeah as the 1990s is a rough time for Don Bluth and we can agree Troll is his worst work that even he don't like it and it shows..... -_- Say I wonder if you'll review All Dogs go to Heaven?
And the live action Mulan, yeah as I feel your pain & suffering.......
Oh no not the bad don bluth film series. His hot streak ended with all dogs go to heaven/rockadoodle
Never heard of this movie as a kid and I am damn sure glad I never watched it as a kid
A Troll in Central Cringe!!!
(It Deserves Much More Love And Attention!! 💗✨
I Know It Has A Audience And Fans. But, What I Mean..(If I'm Confusing You, A Bit) Is That, It Kinda Seems That It Doesn't Have The Attention, Love And Appreciation That Anastasia Gets. (Same Can Go For An American Tail, And The Original Land Before Time As Well) Since I Know That's A Beloved Don Bluth Film By Many.)
Because An American Tail is a really amazing movie as well and it deserves more love. An American Tail is actually my favorite movie of all time.
@@retrofan4963 An American Tail is freaking amazing. I think I didn’t mentioned it because I assume everybody praises it. But it may be just my context 😅
17:12 As for Gus saying why Stanley will never have a dream come true, well _taaaaaaake_ your pick: He's annoying. He's obnoxious. He won't shut up. He's a pansie. He sings to flowers. He's as bland as Edward from Twilight. He's vomitingly cute. His logic makes no sense. He needs to die. He's looks like a rejected Muppet. He's a coward. He has three teeth. He lives a delusional nutball. He lives in Central Park yet is still alive. He's ruining this whole friggin' movie, as well as cinema in general. The Oompa-Loompas could beat him up. He makes Mini-Me look tall. He gets excited when toddlers kiss him. He's the only troll more annoying than the ones from Encyclopedia Dramatica. A termite has bigger balls than him. Did I mention he's annoying?
all dogs go to heaven is also really good so thats 4 films thats more than alot of people ever make
Out of all Don Bluth's films, this is his weakest...
Heck, his direct-to-video film Bartok the Magnificent is a better movie; at least in IMO
Raisor! You have a Kingdom Hearts symbol in your shoulder!
I wonder if Don Bluth regreted making this movie
I have a soft spot for this movie tbh.
Maybe it is the style in general are art is unique and it’s great to see it diverse in its presentation (characters and scenes)- but as a kid I loved this move enough to watch it plenty. Along with pretty much all of the movies like Rock A Doodle and otherwise.
Yeah. By all means it’s likely that if I tried to watch it again, i would not like it as much. It’s one of those movies that is best left in my childhood- Like Labyrinth. The luster was much better as a child and nothing else.
