  • NFTs, aka Non-Fungible Tokens. If you haven’t heard, this term is taking over the internet and the art, tech, and photography worlds right now. Many artists are thrilled because this technology allows them a way to sell their imagery as limited edition digital art.
Non-fungible basically means that something is unique and can’t be replaced with something else. As we all know a digital image can be copied and screenshotted, shared, duplicated endlessly. This is where NFTs save the day. They allow you to create something that can’t be duplicated… the ownership of the artwork! Think of it as a digital fingerprint, or signature, or certificate of authenticity for your photo. In short, NFT’s allow you to create limited editions of your digital work, all while you still retain the copyright.
In this video, I cover the essentials of NFTs for photographers including the physical vs. digital artworks, the value of collectible art, photo copyright, and other essential considerations for photographers.
This is Part 1: The Fundamentals of NFT art for photographers. This is a 3 part series! Stay tuned for more!
Check out my genesis drop (my first drop) at

Can a creator still sell prints of the creation even if someone purchases the NFT? According to the terms of use on Foundation, the creator does not relinquish their copyright of the creation/photograph. It is unclear what the creator can do with their creation after they sell it to someone.

As a trainer, coach, independent podcaster, multi-media creator, generally - I've been thinking a lot these days about how much of my, media-data I want to "give" to the big boys for others to curate and them to capitalize on, while most creators stay under the whip. I wonder how this will affect the whole "user generated content paradigm" - that entities like Instagram are built on. Sadly NFT perhaps kills what we have already posted, gladly I feel a little more motivated now to continue to create.

Lindsay you stated that the artwork is not put up on the blockchain, yet in order to see the artwork the artist has to upload the jpg, mp4 or whatever it is that is being minted. So in essence a copy of the original is put up on the blockchain.

Yeah cause the masses are gonna pay big bucks just to say they own something that has been screenshotted and pirated all over the internet. highly doubtful. The difference with art in a gallery is that its something you actually possess and can hang in their home.

  • @willparsons32

For the Average "JOE" or "JANE" who wants a "memory" of a art gallery hanging (be it photograph or painting) would take a photo of the art piece, take it home and edit it, then print it, frame it and hang it. Sit back and enjoy the same image for an absolute fraction of the cost compared to purchasing. Unless it's a Van Gault, or Picasso, that photographic piece of art - owned by JOE SMUCK holds no value. BASICALLY it's about the "Name" of the artist.

I'm into Bitcoin and I can't get excited about NFTs. It would help if Ethereuem worked, but it doesn't at the moment, the fees are crazy. I agree the idea is nothing new, and it never really appealed to me. I never bought a limited edition print. The digital versions seem far worse, as scammers seem to love it. Maybe the problems can be fixed, but I doubt it.

Im interested in this world, but honestly, I don’t see much future for photography as NFT unless you are not in the top 10 photographers of the planet. The Beauty of photography is to have it displayed in a room, not in your cellphone…
Most NFT that are sold for a high value its because people plan to sell them after for a higher price. This would only happen if there if the artist is really viral. As what I can see (just looking into NFT for one week now) I think it’s quite difficult for a photographer to make money with it…
