    I thought the term "Wind" in your boating context was pronounced wind as in winding up a clock not the air current wind, as you are turning your boat as in the hands of a clock. Unfortunately i can't find any references to this. Other than my time in the RN when this evolution was carried out to turn the ship at her berth, frequently to paint the other side. Enjoying your adventures immensely.

    Can you explain why narrow boats don’t use fenders particular when in locks or mooring?

    • @cruisingontheborder
      @cruisingontheborder  Рік тому

      Hi Mike thanks for the question it's a great one. We don't use fenders in lock because often there isn't enough room in the lock width wise to fit the boat with fenders on, particularly if the lock gates don't open fully (often they don't as wood or other debris gets stuck behind the gates). In some locks it would hinder you going up and down in the lock as they fill or empty. CRT lock keepers will ask you to lift them in locks too, they can be dangerous if there are issues with lock walls and they bulge in place too. We do use fenders when mooring as they protect the boat from scraping on walls when moored and there is some movement with the boat when other boats go by.
      Hope all that makes sense and answers your questions. Lovely to hear from you. J&M

    We had the same problem in the locks all the way to alrewas. After speaking to a lockie you should open the opposite ground paddle first because that keeps you into the side. Aston lock I had to shut the paddles a bit as in full reverse we were still coming forward and ramming the gates. They are such powerful locks. Caught us by surprise too. Looking firward to seeing if you made it out of stenson lock as theres a knack to it. Oh and my 17yo thought it was hilarious you like wedgies.

    • @cruisingontheborder
