All I can say is that you just have to respect a bands ability to be versatile in venturing into other styles. You don’t have to like these other ventures, but as musicians sometimes they want to do something different.

Paradise Lost is one of my favorite bands from any genre, and after reading most of the comments I have to say that I personaly can't understand why people put themselves into boxes even in the case of this unique band. And not only those that are supposed to be closed minded, but also the others who are all about giving priority to musicality and composition ect. People from the second "group" tend to exaggerate just because they have got tired and annoyed by the "purists". Almost everyone seems to forget that this is MUSIC at the end of the day. We all might have different opinions about what we like most of them or not, however imho everyone should give a chance to listening to an album with open ears and open mind before deciding.
Personally I acknowledge that this is a well written song that takes more effort to be composed, however it's just a matter of taste and prefences. The difficulty of a composition it's not one of the first criteria for me when it comes to music, of course it's something strong, but not stronger than the feeling that the song finally gives to someone. This era of Paradise Lost is my least favorite, because I just don't like the vibe it brings out so much. Simple as that. Their music is always well written and beyond, still I believe that Medusa is the most generic and "uninspired" and each one of the other albums has special things to give. I also disagree that the rest of the last albums are boring, esp Obsidian is probably the best album after In Requiem era. Cheers to everyone, stay save and free

Absolutely, I am with you. Well said mate. One person likes this, one likes that and that is fine. My favorites are all from different periods of the band, this fader is a favorite same as true belief is another one. If talking about me saying "boring"...It is not my intention to offend someone and I never said they aren't fine musicians. Maybe it is just that vibe thing you mentioned, i don't feel anything listening the actual stuff. Thx for your nice comment. Stay healthy and stay like you are.

In all honesty, to me it is the opposite way. I was die hard til Faith divides us was released, from there on i was bored more and more and more. But i agree, Paradise Lost as the Album it was including all B-Sides, is what i call zenith. But Taste is different and that is one important thing, or the most important thing.

@@jannyegaxherd9376 Surely not all things after self titled album I would consider outstanding, but even despite some repetitiveness in their songs after releasing so many albums, I prefer their converting back to doom/gothic metal roots (with growls and heavy riffs) than weird electronic driven stuff on Host or Believe in Nothing which simply bores me. Last LP's like Medusa and Obsidian are very solid IMHO. But ultimately, as you said: it's a matter of taste. To me best PL is a gloomy and heavy PL.

And honestly don't you think our generations are kind of dull, sick and childish to force an artist into a genre. My parents were from the stones, Beatles etc era, never heared them complain about anything an artist did. Anyways i gave them up these day, the kind of style they do since 2009 bores me to death, not my thing. But in the end it sells better and they earn more money than playing music like this than doing fader stuff

I know more recent PL has returned to the heavier style of old and the bits I've heard are surprisingly good.
You get me wrong mate, while metal (esp. the extreme) is the core of my musical taste I love bits and pieces of all music from Prokofiev to Pig Destroyer, via Portishead and Placebo and think Michael Jackson was possibly the greatest entertainer ever.
I stopped any active following of Paradise Lost circa Draconian Times, not because of some sort of musical snobbery, but because they weren't putting anything out that turned my head.
Trying to set defined parameters for where pop ends and rock starts is impossible but let's be honest here, THIS TRACK is definitely closer to radio friendly pop than it is to even Guns 'n' Roses, let alone Napalm Death.
PL were probably at the height of their popularity when they turned their back on metal and fair play, they wanted to do something different.
"To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable." - Ludwig van Beethoven.
I just don't think (and this is purely an opinion) they should've done it under the PL name.
At least they didn't get a DJ and rap badly over the same 3 downtuned power chords...

@@pauln6803 In fact this track is the most radio friendly song they ever did, if you call it like that i guess. In fact they tried to do something different, to me that is just a proof of how creative you can be. we loved that song so much that we even did a cover of fader in german language. our drummer is old school paradise lost fan and the rest of us is into everything from Punk to Wave, from metal to synth and i personally like everything as long as it "rocks". fader has really cool lyrics and intonation of nicks voice fits. and of course if you think they could have used a different name thats all fine. i wish sometimes we would do all of our music as one project instead of working on three projects and youtube channels. but anyways, all fine my friend.
