Hello, I have an 83 Bayliner with a Volvo Penta AQ125A with a 270 Outdrive that is over heating. The Bellow on the outside, I think it's called the U-Joint Bellow is torn up so I know this needs replaced but the problem I have is that there is a hose on the left side of the motor in the engine compartment that connects to a tube running to the outdrive and I do not know the name of it and what it does. I know thatI must replace it but can't find out what it's called. Can you help me? Please.. I'm not sure how this engine cools itself. I thought it sucked water from the lake or 'gills' when on a water hose and used it to keep the engine cool. But then I also see what appears to be a radiator cap. Please excuse my ignorance, I'm no mechanic, just doing the best I can and trying to get some help. Can you please let me know what that hose is called that connects to directly to the motor and how it cools itself. I think the other is the exhaust. When I hooked it up on the hose, nothing came out the exhausust. Thank you so much.
Go to marine parts express dot com find the starter part number and find the discounted starter. I believe it was D&G alternators and starters that I found it. It was $65 and shipped for free. Yes you need a marine starter because of the fumes from the gas tank or from the carb can load up even if you are running your blower. Then Boom! You have a much bigger problem. If you still have your starter take it to a local rebuilder and they can fix it for you most of the time. Hope that helps.
hey rich, did you just plum the hose water into the pipe going to the sea water pump? and also i replaced the starter on my aq125 and it was a few weeks till i got a another one and i made the big mistake of not noteing where the the wires goto on the two poles on the solonoid. can you help. thanks
Hey Rich, I bought a Capri with the same motor and the 270 outdrive. The motor is all torn apart-where would you start? Thanks for any reply. The guy told me he was going to get the heads ground, but then told me it'd be cheaper to put a new motor in it. I expect he meant rebuilt..
I have a bayliner with this engine and Im needing to replace the starter. I crossed referenced the starter at the auto store and they gave me the option to purchase a "Worldwide" brand starter. Then I read that boat starters are shielded from sparks. Does the Worldwide brand have the same shielding or do I have to specifically by a marine starter?
Go to iboats. com/forums and you will be able to see many posts on the issue you are having. First I would caution about taking any advice from the posters on there except for the moderator. They mean well but just because you have a similar problem it may not be the same issue and cost you a lot. Do the basics first. Check firing order, points(if you haven't switched over to elec) and fuel supply, pump and fuel lines. Any other questions feel free to ask or send me a message.
Was the engine noisey before it threw a rod? Just bought a boat with the #2 cylinder having thrown a rod through the block on both sides. I'm replacing the engine but I would've thought there may of been a sign before a failure like this?
Sorry I've not responded to many of the recent comments. I didn't see them. I get them through email and so much junk comes through I don't see most.
Where did you hook the water hose

Happen to take video of removing the motor? I'm going to rebuild my transom and could use some insight on pulling the motor.
Can you tell me about the red radiator's function?
It's 2.3 but I had it bored 20 over so it's horsepower was increased to roughly 135 instead of 129.
Does it have motor mounts
