Hello John, all great additions to your bench. I know what you mean about power supplies - nasty things. I have one apart at the moment and the caps that need to be replaced are right inboard of where all the wires are gang connected. I'm at that do I or don't I point and leaning heavily towards don't. The caps are also covered in brown goop that is like concrete. I may just salvage what I can and bin the rest. Regards, Dave (I hope you and your Mum have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year)

Hiya Dave. Yea PSU's can be a bit of a pain sometimes. You could perhaps try heating the brown goop stuff up a bit and using a scalpel on it, just cut as close to the caps and PCB as you can. However if it's been put on like thick toffee perhaps salvage would be the best bet :)
Hope you and yours all have a very nice Christmas too Dave 🎄👍
      Regards
      John

Hi!!!! Is it possible for me to send you my Xbox one to see if you can try to fix It? It turns on but it does not show anything on the screen!!!! Idk it it could be the hard drive or the HDMI port? I don’t want to mess with it because I don’t know what I’m doing! Please help!

Hi, I'm really sorry Neon but I don't currently take on external work, as I am not a business you, see so only work on family & friends electronics.
If you have a TV or phone repair shop near you they will often take on work like this, especially if it's something like the HDMI port etc that has failed.

Orbiter Electronics yes I understand. Thanks for the tips. But those people tend to take new parts and replace them with old ones. But I’ll most likely call Microsoft to see if they can fix it. Thanks for replying :) Love your videos BTW!

Do you think the UniT USB tester is better than the variety of Ruideng (UM series) testers that are available John? BTW, I think the milliamp reading at 9:03 was 500mA not 50mA?

Hi, Good catch.. My mistake, it was indeed 500mA 👍
Erm.. Some of the Ruideng meters look good and it seems some do have more features. I don't have one myself but I do have a few USB testers inc the YZXstudio type which you can see in my video here if you like: ua-cam.com/video/4wILR0TdY6s/v-deo.html
I like the UNI-T one as it has the largest display digits I think, and I also like the longer double pigtail USB cables that many of the solid block types don't have, this can
be a pain sometimes for viewing.
      Cheers buddy

@@OrbiterElectronics Thanks for the reply. Just had a look at YZXstudio in your video. It looks very similar to the Ruideng ones (I own two of them - 1 USBA only and one USBC). Went off to look at the YZX and fell over at the price! Think I'll stick to my Ruidengs or, if I need another meter, consider the Uni-T one you've reviewed here. Cheers, my friend.

@@standishgeezer Hi buddy. Yes they are still rather expensive aren't they. I would have expected the prices of them to have dropped a little by now considering that they've been out for quite a while. Must still be money to be made in those.
      Cheers

I used to own a transformer type soldering gun, they work well from new but the connection to the wire tip has to be cleaned often, otherwise it becomes a weak and watery jobbie lol.

Yes Harv I always had issues with the tips on my old one, mainly with the soldered joint splitting though, however I can remember the screw areas coming loose too.
      Cheers mate
