Good Morning, Mark!! Nice to see Tabac shaving soap again. The only Lord blades I have used are the Platinum, and I found them to be a very smooth blade. Have a nice weekend, Mark!!🙂
Tabac is as good as any artisan soap I have. Right now I'm enjoying GFT (light lemon scent) shaving cream. An amazing lathering cream. I've decided that one can have TOO many shave soaps and creams. It's hard to pick which one to use. And we forget how good the ones are that we haven't used for a while. Nice shave, Mark.
Hi Mark, Nice shave.I love these blades! I was praising them awhile, back and you mentioned it on an episode of MMMB. Great blades, great price. Glad you like them.Take care!
Great shave Mark. And I am so glad you reviewed those blades. I recently picked up a stash of them at a sweet price but haven't gotten around to using them. Now I will! Although, mine are double wrapped and made in China (and not Egypt).
Hi Mark- Great shave; thank you! Nice components today; I haven’t used too many Lord blades, so this is one to keep in mind. I hope you have a great weekend ahead. Be safe and be well. All the best, Mark!
Mike, I enjoyed the Lord Cool Blade. It really delivered a nice shave. I only have one pack, so will grab some more next time around. Have a great week. 🙂👍
Hi Mark; happy Saturday morning from Tennessee! This was a terrific shave...so pleased that you enjoyed the "cool" blades. Re the Tabac discussion, I am slightly contrarian on the original vs. new formula. My preference is always non tallow formulations, and as such, my goal is to find the new formula puck in the covered glass container. This may be a challenge and may require purchasing both an original formula with the covered dish along with an "a la carte" new formula puck to insert myself. Perhaps, another subscriber has similar feelings about the soap. The container looks to be a real treat, much like my Mitchell's Wool Fat in the ceramic shaving bowl with cover. By the way, as I understand it, the sheep are not harmed by Mitchell's process because the lanolin comes only from the wool which is sheared from the sheep. If I am wrong about this please correct me. Essentially, the sheep receive a haircut, and we receive lanolin based soap. Happy Days all around! P.S.My imagination suggests that in the bars and pubs in and around Bradford, U.K., all the men shave with Mitchell's and propose a toast to the sheep and their barbers every evening at a certain time, in acknowledgement of the terrific soap. Of course they may even offer a toast to all the Traditional Wet Shavers -Yankee (TWSYs...pronounced Tweesys..lol) who also enjoy the Mitchell's shaving experience here in the states (more lol). It is important that we not take ourselves too seriously in such matters. As always, with my compliments, thanks and kindest personal regards, Charles K.
Charles, thank you again for the Lord Cool blades. They really delivered a nice have. And thanks for the MWF info. Very interesting! A delightful factoid, actually. When you do get the new formulation of Tabac, please send along your thoughts. I'm curious to know if you consider the non-tallow formula to be good as some other non-tallow soaps you use.
Great video and I just received Lord L6, after watching this video. Just wanted to know🤔, as I just started wet shaving, after having a full beard for 30 years😯, if there’s any special reason for a cold water shave vs a warm water shave? Thank you 👍👍
from Lord I have the cool ones , the super ones, the classic ones and the premium ones , all very good blades giving me around 3 shaves pér blade The old formula for me is nicer , the new one has a sweeter scent , regards from mexico, I have also both editions of the razor , the old one is not so aggressive , and costed me around 15 pesos ( less than one dollar )
Lord Platinum so far is my favorite. But these Cool blades might be a close second. I'll have ot look and see all my Lrd lades to really make a determination. But, yeah, Lord Platinum blades stand out.
I shave everyday and I keep looking but the only razor and blade that gives me a good two pass shave is a gem micromatic open comb, everything else is three passes. I learned about the MMOC from one of your videos Mark so thanks for that!! Found one really cheap on eBay in great condition with a 56 gold tone tech. I will be trying these blades as soon as I can get some!!
Charles, yes, the Gem Micromatic, is a fantastic shaver. It takes some adjustment in technique but delivers a very close shave. As you probably know, a very light touch is key.
With that razor you don't need to check blade alignment, in fact, I have never heard of anyone complaining about blade alignment with that razor. I believe it is a copy of the Merkur 22C and I see no difference in the quality of shave, only in appearance. I got a Lord sampler from the largest European blade site and I am getting mixed results: Lord Platinum Class are awful (not the ones you were holding in your hand with a silver band at the bottom, the ones in the plain white paper), Big Bens are good for just 2 shaves, Lord Platinum Premium (plastic case) are excellent. The Shark Platinum is a surprise to me. It is suppose to be one step above the Super Chrome and if I had to choose one blade I'd have to use every day, I wouldn't be too sad if it were the Shark Platinum.
JustAMan, thanks for this info on the razor. I agree about the razor's alignment, but force of habit has me checking it. I also check alignment for the viewers to see. Of the blades you listed, the Lord Platinum Premium in the plastic case sound great!
Hi Mark, Another great video. Do you prefer vegan or tallow based soaps? I don’t know if it’s my imagination or not but I seem to get more neck irritation with tallow based soaps. Your thoughts please.
Hi, BryBry57. I thought tallow was the benchmark until I tried PAA soaps which are all non-tallow. I was really blown away by the performance of CK6. The original Kokum Butter is fantastic, as well. This led me to discover that Proraso soaps (and some others) are non-tallow. So, CK6 demonstrated how great a shave soap can be without tallow as a key ingredient. Again, when I looked around, I found that many soaps I had been using were non-tallow, as well. Certainly Cella Green (non-tallow) performs as well as Cella Red (tallow). I think it comes down to the quality of the ingredients used and how things are combined, formulated, etc. I look at each soap separately and ask a few basic questions. Did it give me a good shave? Did I get good protection? Was there good moisturizing and softening of my whisker? Did it have good glide? The main difference I see between tallow and non-tallow is the amount of water used and the amount of brush load I need to do for a face lather. But really, a good quality soap made with top shelf ingredients, whether tallow of non-tallow, is going to deliver some really good performance, IMHO. So, yes, I like them both and judge them individually. I cannot make a blanket judgement simply because a soap has tallow or not. And I'll add, I've used some soaps thinking they were tallow, got a great shave, and was surprised to learn they had no tallow. Regarding your neck irritation, it could be an allergic reaction to the tallow. Or maybe not...have you checked other ingredients to see if they were also contained in your problem soaps? It might be something other than tallow. Just a guess, I'm not a doctor. What about the blade being used? Could you be having an allergic reaction to the coating on the blade? Again, just a hunch. If you haven't already, give PAA CK6 a try. I love it. While I do like tallow-based soaps, CK6 really opened my eyes to how great non-tallow soap can be. Truthfully almost anything will lather great with the PAA Cube. I do agree Tabac on its own works great. It is a classic. Have a great day.

I probably pull out Tabac 3 or 4 times a year. Every time I'm astonished at the quality.

It's been awhile since I've used the "Shark" stainless steel blades made by Lord Co. but if I remember correctly I got pretty good results with them.
Chris, the Sharl Stainless Steel blades are good, as well. I also enjoy the Shark Chromium.

Hi Mark,
I have decided to get the PAA shaving brush in your opinion Doppler or Solar flare? For face shaving. Thanks for your videos. Take care.
Doppler has a 26mm knot and will give you more coverage. I'd say go with the 26mm. Do you do a head shave? if so, then the 26mm for sure.
