Let me know if you find something that works for you. I would suggest EP Weich, Obligato or Innovation braided, but none of these have the special quality of Compas 180.
I want to thank you for all the effort you make in each video ,, you show a lot of affection and respect towards the public and also towards your instrument ,, I also wanted to ask you if I could buy some transcripts of jazz solos that you have ,, thank you.
I tried these string last week . Good strings for thin top instruments , and good articulation too . On an old Mirecourt with thick top , I found spirocore sounds much better ;)
A long time since our Myspace (?) connexions ! I keep bad souvenir of Compas 360 wrapping which let black fingers after each playing. Did you try them ?) I've plaid on Anima for many years. Their sound stay very good even after 7 years ! On your website, I hear a better sustain on Velvet blue than 180. Am I wrong ? Cheers. Roland
Hi Roland, oh my god, I can't really remember our connexion through MySpace - please excuse me! That seems like times from another life.... Blue/Compas 360: I remember that both string types were quite nice but both didn't really convince me. I don't quite remember how they felt and how the sustain was. I think I remember that the the Blue felt a little sticky after some time but I am not sure. But the Compas 180 are on another level for me, it's a really interesting option. I played Garbo for a long time, my fingers also got a little dark from the strings but that was OK. Cheers!
Hi, thank you very much for your videos. I am a user of Velvet Garbo, and unfortunately I just learned that they have ceased operating. The wound of my strings are coming getting loose at some position and I am using tape to hold them in place. Their airy sound and the low end richness is certainly very special.... Of all the strings you have reviewed, which one would you say come close to Garbo? I have asked string shop and they have recommended Pirastro Evah Pirazzi Slaps / Perpetual. The Pirazzi Slaps seems to have quite similar sound but a shorter decay, and the Perpetual certainly sounded very interesting too, with a clear and rich tone but not as cutting as the Spirocore (I have been using Spirocore Mittel initially, they sound too bright especially on the G to me), can you give your opinion on these? Thank you very much! Cheers, Leon
Hi Leon, the sound of the Evah Slaps is very different than the sound of the Garbos. But the envelope and the punch are similar. Perpetuals are generally very different, for me another world. Other options to check: Innovation Silver/Gold Slaps or Aquila Golden Springs Synthetic. Nothing sound really close to Garbo!
@@stringmatrix Hi, I just checked your Aquila Golden Springs video, it does have some charateristics of the Garbo, and I may give it a try. Nonetheless, every set of strings are special on their own! Thank you very much for reviewing these strings!
Just had my E string snap on my set of Compas 180’s. Can’t seem to find a replacement set anywhere. Do you have any recommendations as to something suitably similar?
That's very difficult to answer because all velvet strings were quite unique. Maybe a string by Gerold Genßler/Sonores (but I don't think he sells just one string) or Tempera. Otherwise you can try using something like Evah pirazzi light, but that will be a little different.
Hi, a new subscriber here. Thanks for the videos you are posting, i like them a lot. Can you explain what is the best mic position to reduce bow noises? I have an AT2035 but when i record arco it sounds a lot of bow noise. Should i consider buying a piezo microphone or it can be solved? What's the best for arco players? it's more about positioning? Thanks
Hi, I don't have much experience with recording Arco. But my spontaneous thought would be: Piezo is certainly NOT a good option, Arco mostly sounds very scratchy and thin through a Piezo. Try placing the mic a little further away from the bass. I would start with one meter. From there I would test different angles. And maybe even more distance if you record yourself alone. If the mic captures a lot of high frequencies maybe an EQ can help too. Good luck!
These have been my string of choice for 15 years, playing both classical and jazz, and now need to find a replacement

@@stringmatrix A set of Thomastik Solo Dominants tuned down a step sound & feel exactally the same.

Stringmatrix Velvet Stings will get their machines fixed. The Stainless Steel Wound Silk Core Strings are special in tune.

Curious if these are similar to the new Tempera strings.
suono fantastico , ho ascoltato il tuo string matrix e ti chiedo info su velvet blu blu come sono fatte ? grazie
I think the velvet blue had a synthetic core and a flat copper winding. Unfortunately they aren't produced anymore.

Stringmatrix These Strings are Silk wound in Stainless Steel. Good News Velvet Strings will be making strings again someday.
Where did you hear they were going to make strings again? Is this true?
@@cartereddy8829 I've heard it on the News & it's true all right.
@@RockStarOscarStern634 I don’t think so dude
People have heard directly from velvet that they won’t be continuing.

Do you sell/donate the strings you showcase? They sound very good!
No mostly I keep them. Maybe someday I have to get rid of some that I never use....
I hate Velvet, hate Gerald Genssler and his overpriced crap called Sonores and Tempera, too
Which kind of strings do you prefer?
Pirastro Original Flexocore
Du hast keine Ahnung,....
