As an angler we hold a huge responsibility of having mindfulness with every cast. There are aspects of fishing that are not great for the environment such as soft plastic lures, fishing line, styrofoam floats, plastic beads fishing nets and more. That being said, fishing as a way of feeding ourselves is essential for many people. Fishing brings so much positivity and joy to families and us fellow anglers around the world however, as responsible anglers we must fish and practice moderation with the tackle we use.

Hey Skipper, when you see someone pull a straw out of a sea turtles nose maybe putting more plastic in the ocean is not a good idea. I really like all your other videos, keep up the good advise. but please do a retraction of this video for the sake of ocean life. Lot of us just watch the videos and don't read the comments, this video is telling people to put straws in the ocean. By the way, I love your NO MORE TANGLED RIGS WITH THIS KNOT! T-knot video!!

Little late to the comment list but what power are your fishing rods that you are useing in the video. Medium, Medium Heavy or just Heavy ?

Just found your channel today, this is a great idea but here in New Zealand they get a bit fussy about throwing plastic stuff in the sea. Instead I used a bamboo skewer. I wound the first knot as you do but wound it around the skewer as well, including the skewer in the knot. Then i did the T knot as per your demo but just started with a larger loop to allow the skewer through. The T knot then comes tight against the skewer. Then did a uni knot to hold the outer part of the loop to the skewer. Worked a treat :)

Thank you guys for this innovative rig., As I tried to make it., I used a cleared straw on the t-knot.. because I have no beads on my arsenal., I used a glue gun to seal the straw holes with the line inserted on it., Turns out, when the rig is lying underneath the water the straw floats lifting the bait undercurrent.. and it never failed me to catch a fish.. thanks a lot..

@@ilovenythismuchilovenewyor5801 @iLoveNY.... , your hater point doesnt matter to us who arent "way back" and this knot could have existed even before the "way back" timeframe you speak of, and even before your great great grandpa was born... lol... "ever" in this sense just means in a persons lifetime experience/research (Phil G's)... I agree with Phil G and want to add, Poppa Skipper is pretty GOAT like...lol... you cant read a persons mind for knowledge so how would you ever know that he is not the "most inventive". One day, his son will be and on and on and on....hopefully....lol by then they will "get paid" using whatever tech exists... True. He's probably forgotten more about fishing than most of the people in this chat know right now combined. If I had the chance to fish with him, I'd have somebody filming every second of everything he taught me, so I'd always have it, and be able to pass it on. Sad that so much of the knowledge that people like him have gets looked over, but good that at least SOME, like Brandon, are keeping the knowledge going, and teaching US. Paying it forward.

It is also possible to use the plastic tubes from ear cleaners. They are thinner and stiffer. Or ,as we use in Europe, the inox outriggers . They are the best but sometimes it scare the fish... thats fishing I think ??

    • @dollranch2743
      @dollranch2743 3 роки тому +2

Fresh floro & wet knots used, the design of the knot causes a cinch and drastically reduces the lb. test of the line it is tied with. Probably not as significant for Braid due to the compression not being a factor on braided line. If you are casting fluorocarbon and fishing for big fish use a different knot!

I agree. I can tie knots just fine, but usually by accident, or a knot that just went South on me and morphed into something completely different that would take a whole crew a day to UNtie! lol Great vid, and I freakin' LOVE the idea with the straw. Why? Because it makes perfect sense and it's simple in design. Brandon, my hat's off to your Dad, who's obviously a really smart guy! Us "older" guys can still pull a rabbit out of the hat once in a while, from years of experience, necessity, and sometimes just boredom, but hey...if it works! lol Just respect your elders, help from polluting our waters more, show our neighbors more respect, and everybody keep tight lines!! Wishin' everybody a GREAT 2021 for fishing, and leave all the other distractions in life somewhere far far away, in another galaxy......

As anglers we should already be aware of the amount of shit we lose in the ocean (hopefully on an irregular basis), and the damage it causes. We don't need to add straws to that too.

I give out about 1000 straws a day at work at one store I think he is not adding much to the pollution.

"1000 straws a day", is that a badge of honour? And I said WE, we are all a cause of pollution. The least we can do is be mindful of that.

How about plastic beads, styrofoam floats and soft plastic lures? Pick your poison, fishing isnt the best for the environment either way you look at it. It’s a matter of the individual angers moderation.

I have used the exact same knot and rig for many years.
The only difference is that I use a crimp to hold the straw/bead in place.
I also prefer to use a longer straw compared to the line length from bead to hook than you do.
I do that to reduce the risk of getting the hook/s tangled up with the main line.
Sometimes my straw has twice the length of the line between bead and hook.
I specially do that when I fish deep from a boat.
If you are worried about sharp toothed fish, you can use a steel wire leader with this rig, but if you do, you really must make sure to use a rather long straw.
