I've actually heard of this atrocity before, and I gotta say the reader is really letting up on the most gruesome details... Her parents hardly visited, and when they did they neglected Sylvia's obvious malnourished appearance and overall unhealthiness. She even had an older sister that lived near her that advised her not to run away when she tried once, which ultimately discouraged her from getting help.. Ffs, she kept showing up to school looking beat, and was eventually permanently removed to be left in the basement, even though her real sister and the other daughters were kept in session with no official reason as to why..
The lack of outreach is truly terrifying, and it really goes to show how silence can be EXTREMELY dooming.

I read all about Sylvia Likens. It was a sickening, horrifying read that saddened and angered me. Watched the movie too. Gertrude was a twisted and evil woman.

the story about Sylvia was beyond heartbreaking. how could someone ever do that to an innocent child?! there’s a really special place in hell for that disgustingly heartless family.
after reading up on this story via the internet- i am even more appalled and disheartened to find out that every single person that was convicted in sylvia’s torture and murder were all released from prison on parole in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. they ALL should have gotten life in prison without the possibility of parole.

What bothers me about Sylvia's case is not only was Gertrude and her children torturing her...but NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS were doing it too. Just how unlucky can one person be? What's terrible is that not all of them were arrested and got away with torturing a human being. They all should have been held accountable, not just Bobby. Seriously sickens me and angers me how the justice systems allows these kind of people to go free or not even give them life for what they did.

The 4th story sickens me. I don't understand how anyone could do that to a family member and all because of money. What that woman and those boys did to Sylvia Likens is truly awful, no person should have to suffer through any of that. And apparently I hear that the Aunt had been released on good behavior, what is it with the justice system? I don't care if she had good behavior, she murdered an innocent human being. That monster should have been left to rot in her jail cell for all eternity. But she's apparently dead which makes me happy.

There's no way i would've been able to sleep with this on. No offense to The amazing Let's Read as i do fall asleep to his videos sometimes but with as vile and gruesome as these stories were it wouldn't be possible for me to sleep. Especially after the story of that poor poor girl that was abused by that Gertrude lady like the way that story went into such horrific detail i would've had nightmares. I actually began sobbing hearing that story and the one about the girl who had her eyes kept open with wires ect. I couldn't hold back the tears. Had it been my child i would've had a breakdown. I know I'd never be able to handle seeing my child dead like that. I don't even want to think about it. I have a son and that would scar me for life. I love my son with all my heart so my heart goes out to all the victims families of these stories like i can't begin to imagine what they went through. So heart breaking. Like i said no disrespect to joel because he has such a relaxing voice and I've put his videos on to go to sleep alot just not this one. I've read the details of the Sylvia Likens case many times and yet it still never fails to disgust or upset me. It has to be up there with one of the worst cases of abuse I've ever None of those beasts should ever see the light of day. I can't imagine the Hell that poor girl went through without any form of respite. Horrifically abused daily until was eventually murdered. Most people couldn't even do that to somebody they hated or somebody and wronged them horribly, nevermind an innocent teenager who you were trusted to protect. The woman who orchestrated and encorage that should have got the chair.

Very sad and awful cases. I've actually seen stories 4 and 5 re-enacted on the ID crime show Deadly Women.

I honestly can’t understand how people like the ones in these stories can be! What on earth can happen to a precious little baby’s brain to turn it into these sort of monsters! It’s really a mystery! I don’t know how cops and detectives survive their job!

Did anyone else notice that the 5th story started with the date of February 30, 2000? I searched high and low, but could not find any evidence that there was a 30th day in February in 2000. Either way, love this channel!

The story of Sylvia Likens is portrayed in a film called "An American Crime" starring Elliott (formerly Ellen) Page as Sylvia, and another filmed that was inspired by this story is "A Girl Next Door"

Bro, your narration is perfect for these stories. I have a hell of a time finding creators I can listen to for hours the way I do, but your voice is like a smooth cup of coffee. Subscribed 👌🏻
