As long as it isn't whole buildings and doors made out of it. I was playing in a Star Wars game and we ran across a blast door made of the stuff that was intended to seal out Force users from the secret information within, so we tried to cut around the door, only to find out that the whole outside of the bunker was made out of it. A bit over the top, to say the least, considering that this would have been tons of the stuff, but it was made during a time when it was possible to mine that amount of it with droid mining we found out later.
The solution for entry was doing a co-operative "open sardine can" check using the Force to just bend a corner of the door open so a small person could go inside and open it some more. A lightsaber might be a universal key for almost anything, but so is telekinesis, if you pull hard enough.

Any object interfering with the force just does not make sense at all to me. and he was powerful enough to disguise his thoughts and emotions without the helmet in the potions shop, then what is even the point? I interpreted that as him either making fun of or just straight out lying to the Jedi about the helmet. They'd already seen and been confused watching it short out their lightsabers so they knew they were dealing with something they didn't know about. Qimir could probably have told them it allows him to teleport to Coruscant and they would have hesitated trying to figure out if that's true or not, giving him another advantage in their fight.

I think introducing the cortosis metal into the show is a cool thing, as it also appeared in the canon Thrawn: Alliances novel that rendered Anakin’s lightsaber useless. The only thing I take issue with is that all it took was an elbow blow to break the helmet in half. I think they could have come up with a better way for the unmasking.

    • @MyLibertyTV
      @MyLibertyTV 3 місяці тому +2

Besides shorting out lightsaber blades, Cortosis is also known to be very brittle, which makes it hard to work with and not very useful for other applications. It breaking that easily is also lore accurate. It also explains why the helmet already has so many repaired cracks in it.

im sorry alan but i dont see how this show is 5/10 “average” just because people complained about something stupid like a metal that was already canon doesnt mean that everything else the show has done wrong can also be invalidated in a similar way. dialogue is clunky and contradictory. characters also are contradictory and in my and others opinions the characters emotions and how they react to what happens in the show makes no sense and the biggest example of this is the sisters constantly changing nonsensical relationship. very cool cinematic fight and using cortosis as a helmet was an awesome surprise but i dont see how you can focus on that and not notice all the other bs that this show spits out which makes a 19% on rotten tomatoes not as unfair of a rating as you tried to make it seem. everybody should rate things as they believe they should be rated and in my opinion a show you have to defend this much and constantly try to explain things that happen in the show because the show itself cant even properly convey whats going on makes me think of the show as clearly “below average” even on the disney star wars scale

This is low-key a great fight scene, but the reason why so many fans have a distastefulness with it. It’s because of a lot of things within this series that doesn’t make any sense that is a contradiction to the law and it’s trying to create an override the original war. I thought it was pretty cool learning about this type of metal that reacts like Bhaskar but goes one step further deactivating lightsabers temporarily. I would also love to create a new Lord that states only Jedi knights or Jedi masters or even Jedi Padawan’s of the highest level could pour their force energy into their light saber crystal therefore keeping an activated.

I just think that the sith could have used the cortosis better at the start and then show the jedi start avoiding hitting the cortosis. But the sith literally could have blocked so many strikes with his bracer rather than his blade and gotten an instant kill on the jedi. Unless there is some cooldown on the cortosis working. Then have the jedi catch on and thats where you get the better fights. They did it okay, definitely better than the sequels lightsaber fights, but it could have been better with some minor changes. Oh well, I am happy to see some more legends be added to disney cannon, heres to hoping they add more of the cool stuff, like the rakata, the vong, ect.

Honestly I think its cool that they reintroduced Cortosis, its the only thing that made sense as to why the jedis sabers did that, cool touch for Qimirs armor, that being said some of the writing like Maes 180 back from her previous 180 sucks, or honestly, when Qimir had Mae in a chokehold why he didn't just off her like he so easily did the rest of the people when he was talking about "everyone has to die", like get on with it already. I just wanna see how this will then impact the whole Ki Adi Mundi "there haven't been any sith in a millennia" comment still. I will say this episode was better than episodes 3-4 but I still think theres quite a few flaws to the story that hopefully will get ironed out, still not a great show imo though, but I can't make that ultimate decision until the end of the series.

Personally, I am so sick and tired of the invalid hatred this show is receiving currently. Is the show perfect? No! far from it. Are there valid criticisms to be had? Yes, of course! writing, dialogue, acting, set design, discourse irl, etc. But does the show break canon or is it irredeemable in its entirety? Not at all! I for one love the fight scene choreography. It is some of the best we had since the prequels. Now, with regard to the supposed “canon breaking” this show is accused of doing, allow me to debunk some of the accusations I’ve seen or heard.
    1. “The procreation of the twins contradicts and waters down Anakin Skywalker’s importance.” - Anakin was chosen by and born of the force in order to bring it back to centre, back to balance. Meanwhile, Mae and Osha were the result of dark witch Magick, which is a form of force manipulation. Two completely different contexts and circumstances!
    2. “Ki Adi Mundi was not born yet, so how could have he possibly been present at the Jedi meeting.” - In legends he wasn’t born yet. His legends birth was 93 bby. In canon, his birthdate was unknown, which allowed Disney some breathing room. Thus allowing them to swap his birthday to sometime before 132 bby.
    3. “Ki Adi Mundi knew of the Sith’s return and told no one.” - That is factually incorrect. He knew of Mae’s existence, but literally nothing else aside from she’s some throwing knife wielding Jedi killer on a revenge quest, whose master is completely unknown to her. As we now know, she was affiliated with an actual Sith Lord, but as far as Ki Adi is aware, she is just some rogue assassin that is possibly trained by a former Jedi or some rival force cult. Keep in mind this wouldn’t be the first time something resembling this has to occurred in canon or in the High Republic specifically. Recall back to the Nihil’s leader.
    4. “Qimir exposing himself as a Sith contradicts TPM.” - This would be true only if the galaxy of large learned of the Sith’s reemergence. However, most of the witnesses have already been disposed of, and there are still 3 more episodes for him to kill off the others.
    5. “The thread goes against the established lore of the force.” - I’ll agree, to an extent it does. However, we must be mindful that there are literally dozens of religions who had their own interpretations of the force in Star Wars. All of which had vastly different views of how the force worked and how it should be harnessed. Just because the witch’s interpretation doesn’t entirely match that of the Jedi or Sith does not mean they’re lore breaking. It simply means they are unaware or ignorant of all aspects of the force. Either way, they are wrong, and the show itself is not trying to rewrite the force, only show that there are varying perspectives of the same exact phenomenon.

@@MeF0r3v3r Fair enough. I should clarify that I’ve simply had enough of the invalid hatred levied against this show. Much of the negative discourse surrounding the Acolyte is extremely and blatantly disingenuous. Particularly the criticism regarding lore continuity, that I had addressed in my previous comment. As I said, there are certainly valid criticisms to be had, but not in this instance. It’s quite frankly absurd how supposed fans who claim to know the lore like the back of their hand, lack the reading comprehension and background knowledge to even begin debunking elements of the series. It is just as ignorant as the one actor who mistakenly claimed Anakin blew up the Death Star. If we as a fandom want change to occur, we can’t lower ourselves to the activist’s levels.

Thats more than all of Mando Season 2! its being review bombed and a lot of people don't like the producers/directors so they set out to find every single thing wrong with the show. Then the LORE geeks lose their mind because something might go against lore when not everything has been explained. Episode 3 Kid Amundi andany of the Jedi council never mentioned the word SITH! So lore wasnt really broken was it? They thought it must of been a Jedi who trained her. Anyways, maybe everyone is going to die and the secret sith or whatever he is doesnt make it to the outisde world. Another thing..its NOT THAT DEEP. I've watched a lot of "top ten materials that can block lightsabers" videos over the years, so I immediately recognized the material depicted here, even if I didn't remember what it was called off the top of my head.
I also remember reading old Legends novels back in the day that took place in the era the sequel trilogy does now (The Legacy of the Force series is still in my opinion what the sequel trilogy should have been), and in one scene when some young Jedi are engaged by Mandalorian mercenaries, they're all stunned by the fact that their lightsabers just bounce right off their beskaar. The narration even saying "The revelation of 'My lightsaber doesn't work' is a very naked feeling for any Jedi." It really emphasized just how over-reliant the Jedi had become on their lightsabers to do basically everything. They weren't just weapons, they were the ultimate handyman tool that could cut through anything. So when you've carried one of those most of your life and go into battle with it only for it to be immediately rendered useless...yeah it's no wonder those Jedi redshirts were totally dumbfounded and easily dispatched by Darth Dudebro Biceps.
Though I am glad that in the new canon Cortosis is EXTREMELY rare, expensive and hard to refine and work with because let's be honest, it's OP as heck. Only the most skilled and masterful of Jedi killers should be able to use it effectively, otherwise everyone would be using it.

the cortosis is not the point, the point is that it's too op, he could literally just turn off everyone's weapon and kill them in one hit. so why bother playing paddy cake with the Jedis?

It’s funny that the people who are the most critical about Disney taking the legends stuff and putting it out of the canon, and still don’t know that this metal exists in the canon from the legends expanded universe. This is not a new concept or a new and executives did not make it to hurt your feelings.

Sooo, nobody is complaining about cortosis breaking cannon, Alan made a vid about something that specifically doesnt break cannon because most of the other stuff in the show does break cannon. A true sith would never reveal themselves like that, not without killing all witnesses. I dont like this show ive tried to give it a chance ive watched every episode and the cortosis helmet was the most logical/cannon thing in the whole show so far
