- Couldn't find any clips for the ES-195 so as this one may be the first to be sold in the UK, here is my rough attempt - recorded direct from 1978 Dumble profile on Kemper via S/PDIF. So you can't here the distractions in the middle that cause me to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,,,
Good question! The slimmer 195 feels slightly more comfortable and has a greater range of sounds. But the 175 on the neck pickup is a beautiful sound. Thankfully I get to keep both of them!
Wonderful playing Cliff...great phrasing and feel. Thank you.
An exceptional comparison - played for the sonic beauty of each instrument rather than to assault one's ears! Thank you.
Thank you for such kind words.
Beautiful playing. This would be very relaxing music just to kick back and listen to. My wife loves for me just to sit and strum different chords and I would love to be able to play this tune for her. I have been playing for over 50 years but I'm not that good of a guitarist. Are tabs available that tell the chords to this song? Anyway, you are a fantastic guitarist and I love listening to you play. Have a great day.
Cliff, what is the name of this tune? It's so beautiful that I'm going to write lyrics for it, if it doesn't have some already.- Charles Bevell Bloomington, IN
Thanks, I'll try nut sauce. Unlike the DG-335, the ES-195 is fully hollow. That's why I compared it to an ES-175 - maybe it's a "poor man's ES-175"?
Wouldn't call it a poor mans 175, more like a hot rodded version, but i see what you mean. Both guitars are great.
Great sound on both :-) What kind of bridge does the 175 have? They say if it's not the roller kind like Gretsch uses they are very hard to keep in tune. I'd put some 13's on that bad boy and go all Ted Nugent. LOL
Both guitars sound gorgeous. Which do you prefer, Cliff?
Its called The Nearness Of You by the great Hoagy Carmichael, who also wrote Stardust. Oh for an ounce of that man's talent! Lyrics were written by Ned Washington.
Kudos to your Jazz voicings on both Guitars worthy of anyone's collection but The Bigsby is totally unnecessary, because of your talented hands !
Thanks so much for Sharing , could listen to your playing "old Standards "all day long ! Ear Candy !
I'd like to hear the ES-195 compared to a Dynasonic equipped Gretsch. Thanks for sharing they both sound nice. I just picked up an ES-195.
I've owned and played several Gretsches and other , cheaper hollowbody guitars such as vintage Silvertones, all with Bigsbys and have never encountered a tuning problem with them.
Nice tone on the 175. I picked up an Epi ES175 last year when I heard they were being discontinued. Love that guitar.
When he started playing twinkle twinkle little star, a suddenly dozed off fit a few seconds. I suddenly felt like a 2yr old wrapped in a cozy blanket.
Beautiful playing. Enjoyed the video! Nice guitars as well.
That 195 is amazing! love that design, looks like a different version of a DG-335. If you're having problems with keeping it tuned, i would DEFINITELY recommend getting some nut sauce. I use it on both my Bigsby equiped guitars and it works very well. No problems after applying it.
Would love to hear some crunchy rythm stuff on that guitar.
Thanks Dave. Its a beautiful unhurried melody whose phrasing suits this simple arrangement.
It goes without saying that the 175 is fantastic but the 195 is also very articulate and full sounding as well. You've got some good ones on your hands there. Great playing as well.
2nd guitar sounded better. You could hear the skin on the tone. That is ethereal.
Both lovely but the 195 seems to chime. I also like the slim build.
The 195 sounds almost as if it wants to be the 175.
So very very nice and great guitar playing. Super tone. Love it.
Hermosa ejecución! Gracias por subir el vídeo.
I know this was put up a couple of years ago but I just want to thank you for such a sweet presentation. So refreshing after all the mashers and bashers that overdrive their Gibsons so hard you can't tell what you're hearing. Thank you, sir!
Thank you Bill for your kind words. Glad you like it.
Love your rendition of The Nearness of You!
Just beautiful!
+diddi150 its a kemper
lovely playing, lovely guitar.
bah bah black sheep ;)
Great playing man.
Really nice man....
What amp?
Very good
Great warm tones!
What amp did you use and or other gear that contributes to the sound?
Yorick D'Hoir Hi Yorick, just the Dumble setting on the Kemper and recorded via the Kemper SPDIF output so no mic involved. The Kemper is superb for recording.

Allright, I looked it up. Is there any data available like bass/mids/treble or something alike that describes the tone? How about your guitar settings?
This video inspired me to learn this song.
Amp is a Kemper, using a simulation of a 1978 Dumble amp. I thoroughly recommend the Kemper, especially for recording.
