Не рекомендую ESXI для домашнего использования, хотябы потому что нельзя делать снимки(снапшоты) в бесплатной версии, далее если используешь несколько хостов, то тоже нельзя. И самый интересный момент, в тестах по производительности проксмокс в топе, у него прирост +50-70% в отличии от esxi. Есть еще минусы с vmware, но думаю этих что я перечисли хватит, чтобы не использовать ее)
When I worked for Qualys, we ran the entire private cloud on VMware and ESXi of course with vcenter. So I have a little bit of experience not always good :)

Nginx is more performant and reliable (I have a benchmark on my channel). The only feature of Traefik that I find better is its automatic TLS, but this is not applicable here, as you would use cert-manager in both cases anyway.

As far as I've checked istio is written in Go not C++ , or a wrapper on Envoy
The control plane is written in Go, but Envoy, which is actually used to do the work (proxy requests), is written in C++.
What ingress service (Nginx, Traefik, etc) would you recommend with Linkerd?
