gross that James mentioned in his coming out story that he was under*ged talking to old*r m*n on chat sites and outed to his parents by it and now his downfall is similar to that but he’s switched roles
Tati's video wasn't a smart move, but she was right about his predatory behaviour this whole time. And I am convinced so many other people knew, but didn't say anything.
When he became a cover girl only after doing makeup for not very long gave me bad vibes because theres women who have ungodly amount of makeup talent but no one made them known because shes just a girl and girls do that everyday. Its crazy how even in a female dominated profession a guy can still take a womens place because its "different".
Apparently this is a documented phenomenon, men more easily rising to the top in female-dominated fields like nursing etc. Men will get promoted over women with more experience than them, I guess because things like caring for others and using make up are just expected from women so it's seen as more exceptional when men do well in the field. I don't really remember where I read this unfortunately. Then you also have things like cooking where in the domestic sphere it's just expected of women but prominent professional chefs are mostly men. As an LGBTQ person I do think it was important to break down the extremely gendered associations make up had. But like Tom said it's not like he was the first, and he got this unbelievable unwarranted success that I think was primarily down to people thinking they were so different and accepting for stanning a boy in make up. Like they were clapping themselves on the back for not being homophobic.
I saw some comments saying the makeup industry isn’t even female dominated. Females are just the faces of the industry, not the ones in charge and making the real money.
just in case your audience hasn't communicated this to you enough, know that we really appreciate the time and thought you put into even the tiniest of details in your well-planned scripts
Netflix contacted Marlena because they made a documentary about theft in cosmetics, tracking of stock and counterfeit products, a topic James has *absolutely* no clue about.
Where Tati messed up was framing James in the outdated, gay scare light of a gay man predating on straight men, when, in actuality, James is a grown adult predating on minors. His sexuality should not have been a part of the conversation, nor should their petty supplement drama have either. She obfuscated the actual issue with a sloppy, unfocused argument, and people (including James) were able to pick her claims apart because of it. She wasn't wrong about James being a predator, but her motives seemed to center less around warning others about him and far more around eliminating the competition. I wish she had left the fluff at the door and focused only on what mattered; maybe if she had, this entire situation could have been avoided. Then again, it's unfair to put the blame onto Tati. She could have approached the problem better, yes, but that doesn't change the fact that James is a creep who would have sought out teenagers nonetheless. At the very least, she tried to warn people, as muddy as her motivation may have been.
To be honest looking back I think it’s just a coincidence that Tati is right about James being a predator. Mostly, because in the video she was more upset about the gummy hair bear things than the fact that James is a predator. Idk it’s just all icky.
@@zoeelizabweth Thank you! I didn’t get the impression she would have said anything about her “fears” he was a predator if not for the whole drama about those vitamins. She came across as immature and petty in her video. I can’t take her or James Charles seriously.
Honestly, yeah, you're probably spot on with that assessment. Her video's focus (outside of the vitamin drama and other needless details) wasn't on James being inappropriate around minors, but on him being somewhat vulgar and flirtatious towards straight men. I doubt she had much of an idea how right she was on the predator thing-and given how she shifted the blame onto Shane and Jeffree later with her apology, it's hard to believe she knew what was going on with James behind the scenes.
@@trashman2855 Exactly! And no mature adult would handle a potentially predatory situation in such a messy way. That doesn't get James Charles the help he needs nor does it provide support and assistance to his "victims". I only put victims in quotations because the waiter that was the main example in her video turned out to be complicit in the whole affair. You are absolutely right about how things shifted in her apology video. I actually believed her that she was somewhat innocent to the scheme those two were cooking up. I think she got in way over her head but it doesn't excuse her actions. She seems to be insecure and vain all at the same time. She saw a chance to get back at James Charles for his betrayal while still seeming like the good, kind-hearted person she makes herself out to be and she jumped on it. I only watched her apology video so I could say I finished the saga which consumed me when it all broke at first but I am more than over Ms. Westbrook. I honestly have to chuckle when I think she started all of this over vitamins but the truth is the truth.
It wasn't sloppy and unfocused, she meant to say every word she did to cover for her own clout-chasing. She knew about the minors and still decided to stick up for him without outright saying it.
Honestly, at least Tati's videos served a purpose on UA-cam, her reviews were actually helpful. If a woman did James' looks she'd be considered an average MUA at best

Men in makeup often dominate because of the novelty and because it's a mostly female industry. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore Robert Walsh, I've improved greatly with his advice, but I feel like James' and Jeffery's fame and success come a lot from the fact that they're men.
I've also noticed that whenever they get called out for doing something wrong, people will accuse those calling them out of being "homophobic" or that they "just don't wanna see boys in makeup." No, it isn't that, but if the top male beauty influencers aren't good people (and in the cases of Jeffree and James, past the point of being horrid) it makes all male beauty influencers (or just men who like to wear makeup) look bad to some people. Not all representation is good representation.
Their success stems from them being talented at what they do,.not what's between their legs. You might as well be saying Trisha Paytus is only.famous because she's fat or white, and disregard her content 🙄

Heels were originally a men's fashion, but over time the connotation of them changed to be more for women, and men wearing them would are frowned upon. God forbid you look feminine. Basically societal standards, especially beauty standards, change drastically over time and in this current era, makeup is mostly seen as something for women, though that's slowly changing.
Gregory Nem They’re talking about the beauty influencer industry which women did create and continue to build. It’s not misinformation. Makeup might have once been worn by men quite often but for a long time that wasn’t the case up until recently. Times change. It’s getting to be more acceptable in society to be a man and wear makeup but even now it’s still seen as more feminine and a lot people automatically assume that if you’re a man wearing makeup you’re gay and you’ll probably face ridicule.

lol only a teenager would think they’re more qualified than an industry veteran to appear in a documentary about the industry, regardless of whether the person’s business saw major success or not. also tbh i think a lot of his initial scandals come down to being a teenager who was bratty, entitled, privileged, ignorant, and drama-hungry. not good stuff but i could see myself forgiving and moving on from that sort of behavior if someone i knew personally had done it when they were younger but had matured into a very different mindset. maybe if he had come of age in a more “normal” environment, he would have learned and done better, but maybe because he became ultra-rich and famous it stunted his growth and fed into even more, and more directly harmful, bad behavior.

How does someone NOT do that?! I immediately felt sick that i found this person attractive like that so i dont get it!
The fact that it’s called an eyeshadow palette instead of pressed pigment palette is messed up too. Certain pigments are not eye safe. Consumers use them anyway but they do so from an informed position. An audience of kids won’t know the particulars of labeling requirements of cosmetics. They’ll see eyeshadow palette and assume it’s all eye safe.
but was that ever confirmed? I can't remember if it was proven or she just said she had a reaction. that being said, I can believe someone getting a reaction. there's bound to be one person since different ppl have different reactions no matter how much a product says it's for sensitive skin.
@@ggundercover3681 no worries :) it’s usually pink shades that get the distinction because they can stain and be an irritant. James’s palette had these shades as well (the one the girl had issue with) but the palette as a whole was still called eyeshadow. A more responsible thing to do if the target audience is going to be kids would be to call it a pressed pigment palette. And have it clearly explained on the packaging and in the launch video. (Huda beauty has done this with her neon obsessions palettes) Or still call it an eyeshadow palette but have those shades marked inside. Colourpop does this when including glitters (never eye safe) in their ‘eyeshadow’ palettes. Overall for someone who thought they could make a Netflix documentary about the beauty industry, it’s funny that he either didn’t know or chose not to use accurate labeling on his product.

When he became a cover girl only after doing makeup for not very long gave me bad vibes because theres women who have ungodly amount of makeup talent but no one made them known because shes just a girl and girls do that everyday. Its crazy how even in a female dominated profession a guy can still take a womens place because its "different".
👏👏👏👏
It’s because he was a boy and nothing else.
I just don't think it makes sense because it's called cover girl other than that I don't really care.
I saw some comments saying the makeup industry isn’t even female dominated. Females are just the faces of the industry, not the ones in charge and making the real money.

@@gregorynem2697 I think it's more in the post Industrial revolution era it's seen more as a women's thing, men are ridiculed for it; men could use it for for stage productions and the like, but not to the level of everyday wear.
But historically yes men and women have both used makeup.
