I Went to a Duke Ellington concert in New Delhi in the 1960's and Paul and after some band members went to the restaurant that my uncle worked at with his band and they jammed all night. It was amazing. I was the only "customer"!.
Paul played ballads beautifully even from the early days when he was with Basie (viz, Sugar). When he made the side here he had only a couple years to live but played as lovely as ever.

Gorgeous and such a whimsical airing of this classic. Thank you. Gonsalves was a king.
I bought this on vinyl in 1979 and still have it in my collection - one of my favorite little gems.
The picture is a paint by Ferenc Pinter...an italian painter and illustrator.....this pic is from a book about some tales of Georges Simenon.....

Listen to him with Basie in 1948. (Before he met Duke) You can clearly hear the progression in his sound if you listen to these songs back to back.
