To me Al Sandal seems perfect uncomplicated as it is. It’s like a cashmere sweater. Somewhat unassuming but so soft and comfortable.

Hey Ram, sorry I watched this yesterday and meant to leave a comment. This is the one I was looking forward to the most because sandalwood is one of my favourite notes. It’s such a great warm and comforting scent. I have tried some of the raw material and hope to try some different grades and types soon. Thanks for sharing this Ram 🐏🙏❤️

Cheers Ram, yeah at first sniff, it through me for a loop lol, and not having ever sniffed the pure sandalwood oil it was kinda perplexing. That said after I also had sprayed the other 2 on various spots ( which doesn’t help lol ) However after it went into the early mid I GOT it . Congrats on 11k and a good pillow and comfortable shoes are the key to a happy life ,as we spend our life in either one or the other 😂💪👊🤛

Just received my Artemis bottle today as well, haven't tried it yet.
Chrysos ended up being an absolute favorite, specially the dry down. His blending skills are really topnotch specially compared to other self proclaimed indie perfumers

Al Sandal reminds me of a clay pot collecting rainwater. The saffron came off somewhat off-putting to me at first, the way some people have cumin or fenugreek associations with food, the saffron was hitting similarly for me. But with some time, it feels better blended and less striking. Meditative is a good depiction.

Good ol Ramsey. To be honest one of the main ALD guy to give its honest review. Off and on to buy Al Sandal. Just trynna perceive what will i get. I remember Anubis make me feel very saffron like quality leather, rarely hits me as note i would be thrilled.
I think two poles that are very representative and nice perfumes of sandalwood in regular niche are Santal de Mysore and Dries Van Noten Malle. First one is much more spicy and hiperbolic like many Lutens, Dries is really well balanced but done in gourmandish way, although i disagree with vanilic notes, to me its all about sulfurol( long lost molecule) and sandalwood( i doubt they had real indian oil, regarding number of bottles they sell) . I expect at least some middle ground to get the center vibe of this areej creation, it can’t be bad i think.
    Cheers

Came for Al Sandal, stayed for the pillow review 😂. Would Artemis be a good first purchase from the brand? They always sell out by the time I hear any reviews.

Great review as always. How close is it to Mysore Incenza?

Nahhh different because of the Incense note in MI

I can not wait till you try the new “essences” fragrances of Amouage. I want you to tear a new a**hole in Outlands(the favorite it seems amongst the frag community). I like Cecile as a perfumer(big fan of royal tobacco, epic woman, and silver oud)…. But WOW!!! Outlands is what’s wrong with modern day fragrances. It smells like a variant of Layton. Candied citrus(kinda Vicks Vapor smell to me) with a super synthetic woody amber base that just creates an amalgam smell of modern bubblegum sweet mess trash… that just won’t leave the skin!! I actually started feeling sick because that sweet smell was never ending. I’m skipping this Areej collection. I’m still wrapping my head around Oud Taiwan.

Nice review! However, I feel you could have said more about the supercritical CO2, I have my own fragrance channel and 25+ ALD full bottles and am a chemistry professor working in supercritical fluids...the CO2 extracts fractions which a distillation won't and for this reason this smells nothing like the other MySore sandalwood fragrances I have. Supercritical extractions are very different from distillations and that is why Russian Adam used them here. It has a roasted meats and burning butter smell that goes on and on with infinite underlying complexity. Usual mysore is typically more wiry and green.

    • @RamseytheRam
      @RamseytheRam  Місяць тому

I appreciate that unfortunately I just don't get much differentiation to my nose from mysore distilled without the CO2 ... but that's just my 2 cents
      Thanks for watching & commenting

Thanks for your reply - to my nose other mysores I've sampled don't smell as roasted in the dry down. But you've obviously tried more than I have.

    Very good review!
I am curious, which fragrance in your collection does the best job at smelling like natural sandalwood with all its calming properties and nothing in the way? (Besides pure sandal wood oil)

This or ensar rose by Sultan pasha off the top of my head
