thank you both and the rest of the RocaNews team for challenging the status quo when it comes to traditional media and actually showing various different perspectives of the world!! may your efforts never go unnoticed
Long time insta follower, imo you guys rock this man-on-the-street kind of content. Love how you highlighted the people and the discrepancy between us and the msm. Crack smoking commuter was so nonchalantly insane. If you guys keep making content like this its only a matter of time till yall blow up
Lived in the Chi for 10 years & I love the Westside! I taught GED prep courses for a non profit in Garfield Park & that neighborhood was like family! Salute to yall for not being scared of the people!
Rocanews I am impressed with this real raw uncut journalism that provides an empathetic touch to it I'm a proud subscriber of you folks hope to work for y'all one day!!!
Great that you’re talking to real Chicagoans, and sharing it. I grew up just west of there, in the Austin neighborhood. These folks remind me of the people in my neighborhood.
This shit slapped y’all. You heard it once you’ll hear it again; the grassroots reporting is what truly voices the average person’s perspective. Keep on keepin’ on 🤙
That map you showed in the beginning is based on data from 20 years ago. Many of those neighborhoods have gotten a LOT more dangerous in the past 2 decades. Before 2003, most section 8 vouchers for the city kept them int he sake general areas and housing projects. Post 2003, they started spreading them out all throughout the city. All the huge high-rise housing project also closed up around this time, and many of those folks are the ones that received vouchers. So they’re all over the city. As a Chicagoan, I wouldn’t recommend anyone do this.
Unfortunately My Dad in Chicago had just passed away in Chicago before this convention ! I had arrived in Chicago on a Thursday Night and coming from Downtown it was very hard trying to mind my way to the suburbs because each ramp was Blocked off and there was no trains / buses running ! It took a minute for us to find a break through and we went down the ramp on down the highway towards MayWood / BellWood , iLLinois !
Left that hole over 40 years ago. Even back then, the southside and the westside are places to avoid. BTW, the "Loop" is from the loop of the el trains, not skyscrapers.
I was homeless in Garfield Park for a while, lived out west a while off the streets too, it's violent but at the same time I would say the west side is probably the most welcoming side of the city. With the exception of some of the shorties out there, most people will treat you with respect as long as you carry yourself accordingly, and a lot of other parts of the city can't say that. The whole city has a hustle mentality, and that can be pretty dog eat dog, but out west people look out for each other. There isn't a lot of opportunity, and what opportunity there is might not be legal (if you know you know), but people out there are willing to spread it around. It's hard to really describe but the west side culture is like nowhere else, it has its problems (what place doesn't), but the west side is still the best side.
Awesome content. I’d like to think even if y’all do blow up and get the money, you’d still choose to stay in the trenches when traveling/covering a city. As much as safety permits lol. Great work!
Excellent video. Absolutely eye opening for many of us, I'm sure. I would be so scared to go into a neighborhood like that, but the people you spoke to there were so cool and engaging. Thanks for sharing!
Love this stuff, you guys definitely need to move to video format. I just feel like this video needs more of a specific intention. The title and the video aren’t strictly related.
Yea, but groups of humans and cultures behave VERY differently. Some good, some bad. Some compatible with each other, and some not. This kumbaya “we are the world” stuff only leads to war and suffering for many. World history and current history is filled with proof of this. Overall, it’s just best for people to live amongst those that look and act like them. It’s the most peaceful solution.
So are we going to just ignore the facts from @19:40 where independent media cant get info Truth to the masses, you have to be in the club and probably agree to the constraints, etc or have a sales bias! This is literal madness , Where are the clown suits ? There should be constant Benny Hill sound track playing OMFG !
Regarding Opportunities : it is possible to be poor and civilized. Poor and happy. Poor and productive. Stop with that excuse. Bad behavior is taught and accepted.
I like what this guy is saying, but he doesn't quite understand the whole process of gentrification. The final step in gentrification is him being out of the neighborhood because he is either priced out, or they make it very uncomfortable. I'm not saying it's right, but it's a fact. Also a 44-year-old perspective is not even remotely close to a 14-year-old perspective, the brain simply isn't fully developed. It's impossible to compare the two. Also, there are so many parents out there who are ill-equipped to be parents. White, black, brown, it makes no difference. Everything and you see in this video is learned behavior from people who should have no business teaching. Be present, be involved, and be selfless with your children. Your kids come first, not once in a while, not when it's convenient in your schedule, not when people are watching, every single time. School curriculum is a joke too, they want to keep giving out tests tied to funding, when he should be hammering home life skills at a very young age. At least then these kids would have a fighting chance. I have tremendous respect an admiration for those kids who have gotten themselves out of that cycle. That is a very difficult road and you have to be incredibly strong. I would take that person, over an upper classer, everyday of the week. Don't be fooled by the political parties, the only difference is one party will lie to your face, the other party will lie behind your back. They don't care about you, they want you to vote and that's it. Aside from a handful of very well-intentioned lawmakers, that's where we're at.
I mean yes tell the stories of people not talked about enough but that segment at the end was bullshit. Why even mention the DNC. This whole segment had nothing to do with it
The first man to speak is speaking knowledge. Im glad to see Chicago still has heart
He is right... sick of all the BS.
Yeah, seems like a great model, I’m with his message and I ain’t even American
nice car too
Sells drugs😂
@@GhostCat-e5k why do you sell drugs? tell us your story
This is awesome. Way to shed light on a part of Chicago that the media often just labels as war-ridden and filled with criminals. Great work
That guy in the green car speaking so much SENSE!
until he realizes his kids wont able to afford their own place and will be living with him until he 6 feet under. bless the owning class!
@chris_m986 you're not wrong! Incredible dude.

I love this first guy. I’m from rural Idaho and damn we see life the same way. We’re about the same age, sounds like me talking to my 20 year old son.
Man. This is so good. Love seeing actual human interaction.
Thank you so much!
First guy has right perspective
That first gentleman speaking is so wise and mature . So refreshing to hear normal people just trying to do the right thing and live life ❤️❤️❤️

Except for the free slavery stuff you right, it’s a poverty issue not a hate each other issue . He good peoples though.
The “gentrify it” guy is so wise, what a great human being.
"You gotta be the change you want to see" That's my mantra too.
The first guy was very practical. Yes take accountability and show them that there are opportunities. Show them opportunities and passions!
I loved these people They have heart I do hope they have a good future
I like that first guy at the 1:00 minute mark. What he said was beautiful and so on point.
Lil man and baby June are my family, I’m glad you showed this to the world because life isn’t so easy everywhere! Much love❤️

Bravo to furniture entrepreneur. Good man.

That makes more sense.
I’m with the guy in the Buick .. it’s all love
Thank you guys for doing this.
Love you guys, love this. Good job. Gives me a lot to consider - going to be mulling this over for months.

Interesting insight. Thanks for sharing. In general, everyone we talked to was friendly -- even though everyone had their head on a swivel.
Fantastic video, thanks for doing this
Thank you!
I like the punch lines .. 100+😂😂
I like the first dude you guys interviewed. Vert smart guy and seems like he'd be a cool guy to hang out with.
Thank you so much for this.

Shud up 🙄🙄🙄
I don’t think he fully understands the effect of gentrification but I do understand what he’s trying to say 💯
We are really one only change when we're taught love❤
Wow!! This is much better than cash jordan.so....ill suscribe.real people!!¡
Love this! The first gentleman should be mayor.
Around this time during the time they were filming this video we were probably still in Wisconsin on our way to DownTown Chicago !
This...this right here is investigative journalism. The way it used to be.
We have some similar content coming from Gary, IN + Cleveland, OH this month!
This is vlogging. Not investigative journalism
Chicago is a Beautiful dangerous city ☮️💚
13:38 bro is strategic
What is the name of the song playing at the beginning of the video?
Good work on this. :)
He would talk to gentrifiers but not too any of the young brothers heading down the wrong path to self destruction !
Gentrify it? Unc buggin, they tryna kick all y’all out including you! He gotta do his research.

Are you saying that people had to have ID to get into the DNC convention?🤯
Speed Demon and friends are so sweet. Good Luck to you 3 lovely kids!
Keep up the good work. I would be interested in what these people are going to vote, though.
You people need to stay where y'all are leave us alone gentrification is not the way to go make segregation great again

Good point
Great information, love the video
Need a lot more guys like the guy in the green old scoo in Chicago for sure
