F/A-18 has the most aggressive non-thrust-vectoring-control high AOA flight quality among the 4th Gen. fighter!
You mean the Flanker and Fulcrum don’t really exist? Holy Cobra Maneuver, Batman!
Impressed with the pilot skills and F-18!!
Aerobatics with ordinance on the wings. A truly great designs stretched to the maximum of its potential with the E/F models. What’s even more amazing is that the C&D model can still hold its own 25 years later
Beautiful fighter.
best bird around this is what kicks ass while waiting for airforce and army to get to the party
Nice flying there for sure,a very impresive performance.
For me it was the best demonstration of a pilot in an F-18 Super Hornet, excellent, thanks.
I'm a Tomcat fan, however, after watching enough vids and see how the Super Hornet maneuvers w/o TVC, is amazing. From what I've read it's due to receive AESA, CFT's and possibly the GE F414 EP engines w/22% more thrust. This will make the aircraft more lethal, which I hope will happen soon for our Navy's sake. I've seen vids on the Su-33/35/37 w/TVC fly but that's clean w/o weapons. Who needs the F-35?
f18 is grossly underrated aircraft
What a fucking beautiful performance! Love this bird
Retired from the Navy after twenty years of service. Good luck on your career path of becoming a pilot.
That take off was short, Im amazed
Amazing. Just amazing. And all of that without thrust vectoring. so cool how the aircraft pivots around the pilot. And that sound, not much can beat it!
what a amazing demo
Good work Ricardo!
love that sound
Wow ultra sick Bug demo!!!
Wow, that turkey called 'su-35' has no escape, it can't beat this jet, no way!! Just look at it fly, what a magnificent killing machine!!! Amazing!!! AND LOADED!
Great performance, thank you
Incredible pilot!
Amazing aircraft and amazing pilot!
Thanks
Great Pilot!
Air to Air Configuration. Super Hornet is AWESOME!!!!
such an awesome sound
Remember long ago a member of the Red Arrows climbing into a Hornet he shouted we should buy a few of these.
And As An Example, Finland has 62 of them (had 64 of them, but 2 was destroyed in the Accidents, maybe both as pilot error / errors, but those would be the only errors, but I check what were the causes, probably not technical problems!?!?) = F/A 18 C/F (Legacy) Hornets! But also (Finland) the same what Red Arrows fly with! And I'm from Finland! A Young Adult Finnish Man! With Love (Of Our Almighty God) from Finland! : )
Marvellous aircraft and great airshow demonstration. Nice Video!
i love it on battlefield 3
Poetry in motion!!!
Damn that is one awesome plane and must see great service!!!!
i do play bf3 but long before that i was in love with this plane and i still am!
That thing could take off on my old school's field!
Wow~~ amazing air show
One heck of an airplane.
Excelente performance la Super Hornet, archirrival de los SU-30MK2 venezolanos, equivalentes y equiparables en sus roles multifuncionales
That was impressive. With a payload and non direct able exhaust nozzles it is very manoeuvrable. Great piloting
Thank You, and I love your channel name - one of the best!
Tooooooooooo beautiful.
Wow..I didnt know that F-18 Super Hornet could do those maneuvers even the cobra stuff without thrust vectoring. Great multi-role plane.
I loved
RHINO'S!!!!
Excellent camera work btw... you totally kept the bird in frame.
Great camera work.
Is amazing how you wont hear the jet coming until it passes you and ur facing the engines!!!
One of the most impressive performing aircraft I've ever seen. Possibly even built. It doesn't even need to have TVC
I love how the Navy has planes
Thanks for the response, I assumed it must have been after posting the question!
0:40 - 0:49 amazing short take off with 8 AA missiles
I've seen 'em do even shorter with two drop tanks and fully loaded out as a bomb truck. But then again, steam catapults take a lot of credit in that case. Yet the performance shows 8AA missiles isn't near the heaviest these planes can fly.
Muito bom !!
bravo
Nice Job Mr. F-18
I've seen this before but the quality of your video is much better!
Thanks for posting!
5*****
As Farnborough is not just a show, its a trading show. The manufactures have to show it can be put through its paces with a full load on, no war heads just carrying the weight.
@templarknight618 Thats the beauty of the F/A-18 it moves like that without TVC!!!!!
finally a super hornet pilot that doesn't fuck up
@rumbler100 The missiles will be weighted replica weapons, not armed. And I can assure you this was an airshow - Farnborough Airshow in fact
UA-cam comments won't take any replies lately but I've seen the CF-18 demo maybe 25 times and never seen anything resembling a Cobra maneuver. The E/F appears quite a bit more maneuverable and has some great moves, wish we would get them.
Of all the great planes we have built over the last 30 years...F-14...15...16 and 18, I still think this one was the best all arounder!! Now before all 400 million youtube trolls domestic and foreign alike chirp in....maybe not the best but seemed to be good in all categories!! And I also think we could have done way more with it...and now we have the Enhanced Super Hornet...love this bird!!
How does this video not have a million hits thats what id like to know
One thing people seem to overlook is the fact that close combat air to air dogfighting almost becomes negated by off boresight missiles like the AIM-9X sidewinder. All an F-18 pilot has to do is look in the direction of the opposing plane and fire. The missile is going to hunt down the aggressor and if its at a close range its basically a kill shot that the other guy can't escape from. Maneuvering and all that stuff is going to become obsolete with these kinds of missiles out there.
What's crazy about this demo is that this F-18 looks fully armed. This couldn't have been an airshow with those missiles on board.
Dayum... I didn't realize the F-18 could do all that stuff.. No doubt is the all-time greatest fighter a/c of all time and has probably logged more hours than any other although F-14 and F-16 has seen much service as well.
I bet that was Ricardo Traven on the stick. My hero. If not, it's still great flying.
@foxvw When you watch the demos you tend to forget the agony the pilot is probably going through pulling the high G's - it's pretty painful for the cameraman too at times! That square loop near the end is a back breaker to film I can assure you, and very, very difficult to film in one shot. You wont see that shot very often.
i have seen many f/a-18 tac demo teams. this has be one of the best I have ever seen. Also it i rare to see it armed with aim-120s and aim-9s for a airshow because its makes the flight profile a bit harder to fly. Also the f/a-18 seems like it has thrust vectoring in this video because the aircraft has the ablitly to point the nose any where the pilot wants and the planes just follows. Combine this with the low stall speed and advance avionics this plane can blow almost anything out of the sky.
I see what your saying, but its more complicated than that. The "USMC carriers" are called Amphibious assault ships. They are primarily used in support of Amphibious landings. They carry helo's, AV-8B Harriers, and amphibious landing craft. Although they could potentially carry the F-35, they currently don't. An Aircraft Carrier and an Amphibious assault ship have two different roles in the Navy's mission.
Damn, I wonder How many G's he is Feeling Everytime he Climbs and Drops? this is awesome..!
Note that when the aircraft lands, there are blue stripes on the AMRAAMs Those blue stripes denote dummy or practice weapons.
wow
That is a nice bird,I want one
@radarvc35
You are spot on with your statement. The rules applied to U.S. demo pilots completely trivializes our aircrafts true capabilities, not to mention many forget to couple the manueverability with the AESA radar, the joint helmet system, and advanced weapons delivery systems onboard.our fighters.
I just keep watching this video.... seems to me that a Super Bug in the hands of the right pilot could give just about any other fighter in the sky a run for it's money. Very impressive.
putting weapons and pylons on the aircraft creates drag, idk how it couldn't. I love the Hornet families low and slow and AOA abilites but it really only give them a first shot ability and last ditch effort, there speed recovery needs work, hopefully the navy likes the EPE engine and CFT's this summer during testing and decided to add them to the fleet, that extra 9,000lbs of thrust would make the super even more deadly in all aspects of air combat.
I agree 100%. Boeing make airliners in my view.
Great video... thanks for posting. Sure seems like a waste, tho, what with the back seat empty and all.
@templarknight618 No it doesn't have thrust vectoring.
Impressive agility - the super hornet is a vast improvement from the first versions
in other aspect, yes it's an improvement, but in agility i think the old hornet still does better. this plane is bigger, heavier and have silly canted pylons which is reducing its agilty significantly.
The smaller USMC carriers will now become fully capable aircraft carriers with the F-35B on deck, bumping that number up to 20. That's what makes the US military so powerful.
For this show only I used a borrowed Canon XL-H1
does it have thrust vectoring or not? cause it looks like with the moves its making
@templarknight618 its doing those moves with weapons on its wing stations.4 AMRAAMs and 2 LGB it looks like.Never seen a SU-30 do moves like this with a weapons load on.
what camera did you use
are we all sure that we all know what this aircraft is capable off
there not going to show at an air display what its full potential is
this is one hell of a plane and pilot at the very top of his trade
and a great post from---ashv----
@templarknight618
It's complex fly by wire system gives it a superior ability to maintain as much control even when conditions are highly unstable, or the aircraft is at the point of departing (stalls).
Impressive! I wonder how long it can be on patrol before refueling?
the Super Hornet proves that it can do the maneuvering tricks (loaded with AMRAAMS) with other jets equipped with thrust vectoring
You and I are reading different numbers. According to my info the "loaded" weight of the Typhoon is 35,000lbs. The 2 engines produce 40,000lbs of thrust combined so that adds up to a T/W ratio of 1.14:1. As for the Raptor it's full capabilities and max engine performance is still classified so we'll have to wait on that.
Are you refering to the ASF-14, Super Tomcat 21, and Attack Super Tomcat 21?
Just to demonstrate the payload to prospective customers, the AMRAAMs would have had inert warheads, and perhaps no rocket motor, whilst those on the wingtips were CATM-9s, (Combat Air Training Missile), designed to emulate Sidewinders in a mock dogfight, they have the IR seeker head, but other than that, the only similarity to real AIM-9s is how they look. You can tell that something's a training munition if it's blue.
wow cobra
Very interesting comment, I didn't know that.
the full performance (that you see in the states) has a 9g to negative 3g gap, so they push the aircraft to its limits, dunno about this performance this wasn't the same style we get in the states and it was loaded with dummy weapons adding drag and weight to the aircraft for performance.
According to F-35 pilots, the F-35 has maneuverability very similar to the F-18! That's an impressive feat considering the fact that the F-35A's empty weight is the same as the F-15E. It's a big plane relatively speaking. It would seem you are correct on this one! Cant wait for that first airshow! Unfortunately we'll have to wait another 5 (or 6) years for that to happen.
Adding weapons creates drag when hitting supersonic speeds. I'd love seeing the EPE Engines on the Super Hornet. It gives a T/W ratio up to 1:1 of thrust. It will be more maneuverable and be more deadly in WVR air to air combat which its still deadly. I really don't like the CFT. It does increase range dramatically but i just don't like it IMHO. But anyway i do like the IRST pod feature. you can track air or ground targets at long ranges.
The F-22's T/W ratio remains "top secret", however Raptor pilot Paul "Max" Moga has said that the engines can produce over 37,000lbs. each providing a T/W ratio around 1.14! Still higher than every other fighter flying. The F-35A's loaded weight is 49,540lbs. while the "unclassified" thrust is at 43,000lbs. That's a T/W ratio of 0.87. Interestingly enough Pratt & Whitney stated that their F135 engine can produce upto 50,000lbs. of thrust in testing. Very impressive!
As I say, it depends on the sortie, my numbers are likely for an interceptor configuration, whereas yours may be for a deep strike, with Paveways and drop tanks; I know that when you get either of these aircraft carrying their maximum payload, you will get this number well under one. Mine works out at the plane weighing just over 33,000lbs though, so perhaps it was a little optimistic I grant you
Super Hornet
@akngac5 right but the negative G force at my reference are much more difficult to handle than positive Gs and could make a pilot pass out or rupture blood vessels in teh brain even under 7 gs.
To add to this the Rhino version will and is replacing the current electronic warfare aircraft such as the EA-6B Prowler and possibly the A-6 Intruder...
@foxvw
The Superhornet has a G limiter of 7 Gs, however, for emergencies, this limiter can be disabled. This pilot pulled no more than 7 though. I've worked on Supers and legacy hornets for eighteen years now.
The best multi-role fighter in existence.
What was "Gods" role in the creation of this fighter?
kloudkreeper I just love my country.
kloudkreeper God would never create a fighter-bomber this mediocre, so none???
***** I agree, the Dassault Rafale is one of the best multi-role fighters in service. Much respect from this American.
