I've never seen the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and tunnels. Given my age and physical situation, I will never go there. Thank you for enabling me to see this area of the country.
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT, officially the Lucius J. Kellam Jr. Bridge-Tunnel) is a 17.6-mile (28.3 km) bridge-tunnel that crosses the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay between Delmarva and Hampton Roads in the U.S. state of Virginia.
I love every upload post, hope you're having a good day. I'm epileptic by the way and your videos really help calm me too when I feel a focal seizure, which is a sign of a tonic clonic seizure coming on. I just think about camping and setting up and chopping wood and eating mres with a little wood stove and an mre and it calms me.
Google tells me that it is 17.6 miles and was completed in 1999. Thats a long ride. Really nice blue/grey sky. I have learnt so much about areas of America since watching your videos and googling whete you have been, very interesting.
That was an interesting drive. I've driven the Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Annapolis many times, driving out to the Eastern Shore to visit my dad, but I've never driven the other Chesapeake bridge/tunnels.
If you ever make it down to Louisiana you should drive across the Lake Ponchartrain causeway. It’s longer than the Chesapeake Bay bridge and it’s dead straight the whole way. It’s like taking a bridge straight out into the ocean as you can’t see land on the other side when you start across… supposedly there’s a few miles of it in the middle where you can’t see land on either end (I was driving alone so looking forward so cannot confirm the rear view)
I know you said this is the first tunnel you've been in that wasn't through a mountain, but as a New Englad guy, surely you've been in at least one of the various Big Dig tunnels through Boston? Those are all under city streets, buildings, and the water.
Can confirm, there are points you can't see land on either side, just bridge and water. I avoid the causeway even though I am close to it when I need to go to the Northshore for the simple fact that if something happens you could be on that bridge for a while.
I believe the skyway in Tampa is 4 miles and I love crossing it, with that said it is kind of spooky that right next to it is the old bridge that got hit by the barge and killed like 20-30 people.
Fun fact: It takes approximately 25 minutes to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. A destination itself, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel was once considered one of seven global engineering wonders of the world.
25 to 75 feet deep The North Channel Bridge is the highest bridge. There is 75 feet from the water to the bottom of the bridge for fishing boats to go under them. The water along the bridge is 25 to 75 feet deep

Thank you for these trips you take. I ride along with you and I see things and learn things and i don’t actually have to go myself. Love it.

You covered so much ground this year.
There used to be a restaurant and gift shop but it unfortunately shut down a few years back.
wow, I really enjoyed that drive. Huge bridge. In Canada, we don't have bridges that long. I could be wrong.
Our longest is the Confederation Bridge which is 12.9 km long (8 miles).

Looked it up and it is 28 km long! (17.6 miles). Impressive.
Lake Ponchartrain in LA is 24 mi long. Sunshine Skyway in FL is 4.14 mi long.
Your about 15 minutes away from me didnt know you were down by my area thats awesome i cross the bay bridge almost every day. Also the key bridge.
Chesapeake…that’s my neck of the woods. Welcome post 10😊
Mine, too. 👍 born & raised on Maryland. 😊
That gift shop and restaurant was a nice little tourist attraction. No longer open.
That second part where you said, there was a pier that used to be a lookout point, restaurant and gift shop it closed about three years ago.

I was on those same roads with my family back in July
Welcome to Maryland!

Nope not cool, anxiety is in full effect. 😢 Glad you’re able to drive over things like this. 🫣 Thanks for the ride. ❤️
At beginning..the toll..I believe the real toll is the one take on you by crossing the bridge! 😂

I keep wanting to stick my fishing pole in that water.
The island at the beginning of the drive is called Fisherman's Island for good reason
