I am starting my Masters on 4/17 I did my BS is healthcare administration and decided to change my career direction. I currently work in a residential support program / group hime for adults.
This was the video I was looking for. I have been researching this field and am highly interested in getting into it. My background is in working in mental health programs as a Rec Therapist with males in an adult prison. I left it because I felt like what I was doing wasn’t truly impactful but still want to keep digging into the root of reducing the probability of people entering the CJ system. I then became a substitute teacher aide and was able to experience working with kids 1:1 or small groups which led me to becoming a Paraeducator or RBT. Once I learned about BCBA, I thought to myself, man, maybe I can circle back to working directly with people impacted by incarceration or at risk. Thank you for your videos, truly gives me hope and makes me excited to keep learning more about this field and hopefully entering into it.
I am truly glad this video was helpful. Thank you for watching. Please keep us posted on your journey. It sounds like it will be an interesting one, but we’ll needed.
This is reassuring. I have an education/teaching background with some early intervention experience. Currently working in ed and behavioral health consulting but want to pursue BCBA credential. I have no desire to work in a clinic and I want to be able to create multiple streams of income as well. This is sooooo helpful and such confirmation!
@@starticegalmore8602 I’m glad you enjoyed it. I can’t wait to see how you contribute to our field and the world with all of your unique qualities. Please keep us posted on your journey.
Currently in school for my masters. I want to learn as much as I can and I just feel like I’m struggling in this field but I want to do well. I feel overwhelmed.
Which part overwhelms you the most? I would start with the basics, get a good foundation and understanding of the concepts. Then after you practice for a while you will learn how to apply it to any setting. Just focus on one day at a time.
This is awesome information!!!! I always thought that combining ABA with substance abuse and recovery can make incredible, significant impact! As well as domestic violence, trauma, etc.. ppl need to be able to reintegrate into society after going through major issues, what better way than to use ABA?…
Hello Dom!! Thank you so much for what you do!!! You are such an inspiration and pillar in the community and the field of ABA, sharing helpful and informative content, disseminating the benefits of ABA etc. As an autism mom and aspiring ABA student is it possible you could share some of the differences, pros and cons of the roles and responsibilities, credentials, of BCBA vs an BCaBA ?
Thank you so much for your kind words and for all the love you you’ve shown to my channel. I also love meeting another Autism mom. You know that’s a good question and video topic I hadn’t thought of. Let me do some research and get back to you
Hi Dom! I attended your study notes ABA seminar and it was awesome! One of my BCBA supervisors want to watch the replay of the presentation. Is that possible? The link you provided states that the video is out of stock lol.
Hey Christina! I’m glad you enjoyed they training. The on demand video should be available for purchase in the next couple of weeks. I can follow up when it’s ready. I appreciate the support 🥰🥰
Thank you, thank you thank you 🙏🏾 you have no idea how much this video has helped me! I have been struggling with what I should go back and get my masters degree in and I stumbled upon the BCBA. I currently have my bachelors in human services, with a focus on social work. My goal is to help people deal with trauma and find solutions to help them however, I’m struggling between going back to school for counseling, social work, or now behavioral analysis. In your opinion which of these would I be able to focus on trauma victims?
Thank you thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. If you really want to focus on trauma with all the resources, social work may be your best bet. However, I know a few BCBAs, who are LCSWs And BCBAs. You can get a masters in social work and then take pathway 2 to get your certification as a BCBA. Or you can do the full BCBA masters route and seek out trauma informed care continuing education courses which is what I’m doing now. I would also talk to the enrollment counselor at the school you are looking into to ensure you will meet the deadline to finish a masters program and still meet the requirements of the certification program (I hear in 2026 this pathway will no longer exists) at least that’s what’s the streets are saying. So make sure your time line and values all align One pathway will take longer. Thanks again for watching and subscribing.
@ I appreciate you responding to me so quickly! I know you are a very busy woman mom wife and professional so I appreciate your time 🙏🏾 But you have done a great job convincing me that this is the path I need to take! I’m so inspired by your transparency and willingness to give great information. BCBA hear I come 💪🏾 Maybe I’ll see you at a conference in the future but I definitely know I’ll have questions along the way 😂
Hello I have a bachelor's degree already ( it was in Business Administration) but I'm interested in becoming a BCaBA, how long would it take for me to become a BCaBA? (For example, the approximate time length in doing the BCaBA coursework, supervised hours and to study/pass the exam?) Thanks.
Hello! How do you stay updated with the field since it is always progressing? Articles? Trainings? Would love some recommendations! i am currently a LMSW looking to obtain my BCBA to work with autistic adults and children.
Great question. My first source would be the monthly news letters that come straight from the BACB. The 2nd resource is Continuing Education Units. You have to get 32 CEU hours every two years anyway use that as an opportunity to stay on top of the most current research and strategies. Most good trainings will also give you access to articles. Lastly, keep you a good good ABA community. I miss a lot of changes because I’m busy with 4 kids so I rely A lot on my colleagues, Bcba , friends or online community to keep me updated on the new new. Always fact check for yourself. I hope this helps. I could make a whole video about this topic. If I do, I’ll shout you out.
I’m not sure what a LMHC is, but to become a BCBA any specialty would have to do additional coursework specific to Applied Behavior Analysis. The amount of coursework would be contingent on your currently level of education and in what field. For example, if you have a masters in psychology, you would still have to take 8-9 additional courses in ABA and complete 2000 hrs of supervision
@@domthebcbamom6679 Thank you for your response. I am a licensed mental health counselor and qualified supervisor in the state of Florida. I have a masters in mental health counseling.
Hi there! I have a Bachelors in Psychology and Masters in Education. I work as an Instructional Designer and its a wonderful career. I enjoy helpung others and just being of service to help achieve a greater outcome. I am interested in becoming a BCBA but not sure where to start. If i have a Bachelor's and Masters already, what would the process of becoming an BCaBA look like for me?
You’re on the right track! Having a masters in education (I believe) can qualify you for the certification program instead of getting another masters in ABA. But with your background, this field could use you. So I would call and talk to a university’s ABA program and ask these specific questions to see what your next steps should be. Maybe try the Chicago School of professional psychology just to get your questions answered, then choose the best program that fits your needs.
Thanks so much for responding. I've reached out to the Chicago School of Psychology and have some stuff in the works with them. Is that who you got your Masters through?
I love when you upload! I use my BCBA in the charter school setting and in the Group Home setting with both adults and children 😊
Aww you comment just made me smile. I know I’ve been gone for a min.
We have a lot in common. I also work in group homes with both children & adults
