When Rock Hudson was hospitalized for AIDS nearing the end of his life, every actor/actress in Hollywood had all abandoned him except 1 true friend, Elizabeth Taylor. She stayed with him in his hospital room for a week, week n 1/2 holding his hand, planting kisses all over his face, singing too him & she never left his side until he took his last breath. This story always chokes me up & brings tears to my eyes! Happy tears though, for @ least Rock Hudson knew he was not alone & not loved in his time of tragedy.

So did Doris Day. In fact, when they were announcing the TV special she was going to do with him, to raise money for animal rescue, my mother hollered to my father, "Come in here and look at Rock Hudson. He's really sick" and the initial reports said he had liver cancer, and he did, but the truth did come out (no pun intended) later. My parents are both 87 now and my mother STILL can't believe he was gay; when she was a young woman, she and her friends would go to all his movies, even the awful ones, just to look at him. That special debuted on one of the faith-based channels, and at the end of the show, it said, "On (a few days before he died), Rock Hudson accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior."

Very sad -- my condolences to you. But how many of them could have easily avoided it by common sense, eg monogamy? Such questions are never asked. In movies about AIDS sufferers there's never any discussion of its preventability. The sufferer is always treated like a hapless martyr deserving all the sympathy and empathy of which the human breast is capable. It's the world's first holy, mystical and highly political disease, and the world is expected to stop for it.

Yes, thank you dear Princess Diana! I wish you were still here to help finally erase the stigma that still exists among the ignorant and uninformed. Also, to help bring to light that, while not the highest in proportion, there are numerous people living with HIV from “lesser affected” groups, that, because they are not a member of the high risk groups, get completely ignored and face the most isolation and stigma. I pray that the gay community and other powerful compassionate groups will not only welcome the “HIV ‘minority’” but encourage them to feel safe disclosing and start to become represented more in the community (HIV med advertising, etc.) especially while discussing issues of living with HIV. Please help these members of the HIV minority** (lesser-affected**) groups to rise up from isolation and stigma!!We All belong together! 😘🙏❤️🙏. **Women of all races and ethnicities, men of all races and sexual orientations, people of all gender identities, those LHIV over 40, people of all statistically “lesser-affected” races and ethnicities!!😘🤗❤️🙏❤️🤗😘🙏This and other stigma reducing efforts can become one of the legacies that continue Princess Diana’s compassion and powerful stigma-reducing efforts! 🙏❤️🤗😘

One of the biggest tragedies here is the late Tony Perkins who died of AIDS and then his wife photographer/model Berry Berenson , the mother of his two sons died on Flight 11 from Boston's Logan Airport that crashed into the WTC! She had been on Cape Cod where their summer home was and was traveling back to L.A. so both their sons Elvis and Osgood lost both their parents to horrific tragedies! May they all rest in peace~

Thank you for this message. In 1991, I lost someone very close to me, he was down low. Never admitted AIDS for fear of his sexuality being exposed. People who were alive recall how it was. Many women were infected due to this. Children as well. This discussion should broaden to others. Yes, the medications have indeed helped, but shame still surfaces. People infected have other complications that they deal with to stay alive. Get tested and inform your partners. That is my message. Preferably before you decide to have children with a partner who is unaware.

I and my partner are still here by the grace of God, having lived through the 80's. We didn't know each other then, but have been together now for 18 1/2 years. We've lost many friends between us from hiv/AIDS, and have friends now living with the virus, but have the chance of a 'normal' lifespan thanks to the combination therapies available now. Sadly, we're also seeing some of those friends passing due to covid which they never stood a chance against.😥

I'm not trying to equate the two conditions in any way but it gave me an idea of the fear, helplessness and hopelessness you may have experienced then of possibly contracting/transmitting an incurable virus, that your country did not take seriously.😔💗

I disagree. There was nothing complex about Freddy Mercury's sexuality He and his partners were very typical examples of gay men in that era. I've watched footage of them letting their hair down. He preferred the friendship of women but most likely wasn't into the sexual angle. That too is like most gay men.
