I’ve watched about 100 chicken videos across UA-cam over the past 3 weeks and your Chanel is the only “relatable” Chanel so far, most people treat their chickens like disposable, laying and composting machines! Not you guys 😍Thanks for posting.
Wonderful to see them enjoying life after all the hell they've been through before. It warms my heart.
Happy, happy chickens! I'm so grateful for people like you that are doing this important work. Of course you do this from your heart, not as a job. Bless you.
Tasty food; snug house; lovely yard and flower beds; spoiled, well fed "pit bull" as guard dog; gentle, loving humans who don't want to eat us AND good music.....the sweet life!
Hi Sarah, I've really enjoyed watching your hen and houseplant videos. We also have four garden hens and their run is permanently stripped of grass now; it has never grown back. We often buy them a roll of turf from B&Q and roll it out for them in the run - they fall on it like locusts! Mine also love cabbage and worms!
Feed your chickens their eggs. Just smash the shell which they need for "calcium". You can scramble the rest. They will also enjoy cabbage and other garden food.
get some cabbages, just a few and tie string round them. Hang them about 2 feet off the ground. The chickens have to jump up which is good exercise. Jack russel dogs are bred for catching rats. IF YOU KNOW ANYONE THAT has some just get some of the hair off their brush and poke it down any holes. The smell puts the rats off.
They need calcium. Oyster shells ground up is a wonderful source. Just a scoop full once a week is enough to keep them laying good firm eggs.
Doesn't seem like you upload anymore so not sure if you'll see this but just wanted to say I’ve absolutely loved watching your chicken videos! We’re picking up some rescue hens in a few weeks and it’s been so lovely and reassuring watching your series. All the best, Evie💜🐓
You and your husband are very awesome for rescuing these lucky girls 🙂 It’s obvious you are truly enjoying them as well.
There’s another channel called @ChappelChicks that does not get much attention but she rescued seven battery hens as well. She does cute videos and the transformation of your hens and hers is just amazing. It’s so sad that they are treated as disposable trash when they no longer lay eggs. It’s just heartbreaking.
Thank you for what you are doing for those beautiful little girls 🥰
Hens love piles of leaves so in the Autumn when the trees are dropping theirs you cd bag them up from everywhere around and dump them in the chick run.
Yes so true!!
Lovely to see the girls.... our hens are now free range and have the entire garden to roam around but they have completely ruined all our plants. We have hardly any flowers come up this year and everything in our back garden is either dug up or trodden on! My girls are also rescued and they too showed no interest at all in eating veggie scraps from the kitchen. Mine eat a hen ‘garden mix’ and also love sunflower seed hearts and mealworms as a treat as well as fresh strawberries! Stay safe x
God bless you for what you are doing for these deserving chickens!
Youre giving them a great life. Bless your hearts!!
aww they all look so well and plump now, love them meandering around the garden...we are blessed on this planet to have all these little creatures around us. You guys are amazing and kind!
I don't have time to watch all of this...but Love what I have seen so far. I am so shocked to hear of your problems. Bless you. Subscribed.
I have watched all of your videos on your girls. I'm getting me some ex-battery hens in about 2 weeks and I can't wait! I like watching how you look after them and what a day in the life looks like with them, its also amazing watching them evolve into happy healthy chickens after being in cages all their life! :)
Lovely video. Really made me smile. You’re doing a wonderful thing 💕 🐓 xxxxx
what a beautiful place for them, thank God for people like you with such a good heart
So nice to see how feathery your hens are now! I’ve loved watching these videos, I’m getting rescue hens soon (hopefully next month!) and I’ve loved watching your experience of it :)
We and our neighbors have put out large woden froames, at least 6 inches tall, for dust baths. Oh, and at 2x3 feet. Don't need a bottom for the vox either. The chickens are not so possesive of the dust box. Hope this helps. We love watching our guineas using their dust boxes.
Its so beautiful to see them out & enjoying themselves like they should be. Its good to see their feathers growing back. I'm glad you rescued them, they're adorable!👍
lucky chickens to be spoiled and loved by two wonderful caring peeps 💜
Aww, so lovely to see how well the girls are doing. What a happy life they have with you. x
Our rescues are adorable as well they’ve lived here for about 5 months , they were in bad shape too and now they own us I love them so much Scarlett is the boss lady then Hai Hai Natasha and Electra are both easy going 😊 Hai Hai had a bad leg and wasn’t too good at all I thought we was gonna lose her she’s tiny Aswel but she’s such a strong little chicken anyway your girls are beautiful thank you for rescuing them they are definitely living their best lives 😊💚🌱
good luck and have a great spring.
Fab update about the girls. Love how thick Miranda's feathers are getting now. Must bring you so much joy to see them flourish. ❤🐓🐓🐓🐓❤
Hi Sarah, when I had chickens I often tilled up a small patch of dirt in their pen. Just lightly scratch the top soil so they can look for worms in their pen.
They love lettuce, and tinned peas. Good to see them out in the grass. I'm sure ur neighbour would let them in their garden throw them back home, especially if they get ur eggs. U can get live mealworm for them, keep some and breed them as well.
I hope you contacted the manufacturer about the leaks. They come with a 10 yr guarantee on their website. This is one of the problem when fitting things yourself with no carpentry experience. It may be best to go with a supplier who can fit on delivery.
That was so helpful and informative, especially the tip about the coop roof. Thank you.
Great Vlog they are doing really well good to see how they have recovered from the time you got them they must think they are in heaven. You mentioned that your eggs have changed and the shells are sometimes thin this is because they could do with some more grit gravel as they are on the soil they are not finding much gravel around only when you let them out to roam around the garden. They have a muscular part of the stomach that uses the grit to grind grains and fibre into smaller particles. Hope this helps stay safe and well and keep up the good work.
David Howard they need grit to grind their food , they need oyster shell or calcium to make a hard shell . 2 different things .
Great videos ... kept chickens in the past and adore them .. mine were very spoilt much like yours , they become part of the family .. keep up the good work and really looking forward to the next instalment 👍
Watching this makes me even more aware of when I buy eggs, because so many times you will find boxes in the supermarkets which say 'free range' when you know darn well that's not the case.
Thank you for sharing your experiences of your rehoming your hens and keeping them. It’s great to see how much they are coming along! We are getting our first hens from bhwt next weekend and are getting ready and setting up for them coming! Can’t wait!
They’re looking for grubs and bugs. Chickens are wonderful when you are turning your garden over. I put up a temporary fence around areas that I want them to turn over.
I know this thread is a year old but just wanted to say that I had the same problem with my ex-caged hens where one wouldn't grow her feathers back like Charlotte. I ended up hatching out some chicks, so the whole flock went on chick starter and then growers pellets (high in protein)- then BOOM all the feathers started coming in in a space of about 3 weeks. If she is still bald around the rump, you could try that. x
Yes, for a few of us....Life is sweet.
Loved the video! I have Chickens and when I want them to come to me I whistle for them that might help it always really works for me. (they don't listen to the tuting noise😂) ❤️
Bless you both for helping these beautiful little creatures! I have had hens for over 10 years now, and wouldn't dream of being without them. One thing I woud advise is, do away with the cracked corn, it is terrible for their system and very hard to digest, it is garbage and should be banned as animal feed. People like it because it is cheap, that's the only appeal for it. Also feel free to give them table scraps (no raw onions). Happy hen raising to you both :-)
More updates please! This is so interesting.
I have concrete in my chicken coop, Will be concreting part of the chickens run. It is costly when it comes to straw. But it is worth it. Being dry is very important. And I also have the run with a 12 inch wall around it on top of 8 to 10 inch stemwall of concrete. Rats and mice are not welcome. I Chickens loves to eat mice, unfortunately when they are asleep and the mice are out it doesn’t do any good to have a little raptor in the house.
get some oyster shell for the chickens, they need it for the egg shells, bones and feathers. they love it
There happy now you got them
came here for Andy and ended up loving the Chickens! God help me. lol
good job
Look happy
I wondered if you could grow some grass/wheatgrass in a container and put it in there run then compost what is left after the grass has been eaten. Just a thought.
Put a hardware cloth apron around the coop like 2-3 feet. No predators will be able to dig under the coop. Watch videos of Carolina coops in youtube.
Absolutely love this video series!
Still have play withe the dog thier cute
It’s a little frustrating some feathers will grow back right away other ones not until the molt.
hi just wondering if you still have your hens?
Good point as it's hard work .As a vegan i would just love the hens and not their eggs .You cant have a lovely garden and chickens .They are great pest control ....Really they are birds to be rescued so having lived like prisoners a few plants are as nothing .Hopefully people don't abandon after lockdown --Great video ..👍🐔🐔🐔
Just discovered this channel. And i love the chicken updates. I wish I had more space where I live, I would love to adopt a few rescue animals, too ☺️ Btw, will there be a 1-year update?
I know you don't eat eggs and give and sale them but do you fed some of them back to the hens .I heard that's good for them .
My daughters egg customers return the empty shells and they get crushed up finely and given back to her chickens
Can you do another hen update? X
Loving the videos x stay safe
Have you had to clip their flight feathers? That's the thing that worries me when I get mine in june.
who owns the field behind you? can you ask them if you can put a moveable chicken run on it, then move it once a week, they would have access to bugs and other items
Where did you order the coop? Love watching the hens progress!
I wonder if they have memories of thier old life.?? 😢😢
where is the rooster
Are they laying brown eggs ?
hi do you still have your hens
Buy a small patch of roll out grass.
Hey, Sarah, here is something you might want to try, if you have availability of alfalfa hay there in your location across the pond. Try to put some of it down, and they will live the leaves and some of the stems too. May contact you on aFacebook.
Mine love Garvo hen food which I buy online from Flytesofancy which is a brilliant website for all sorts of hen stuff
A friend of mine said she had a issue with mites in the coop what do you recommend to protect please
Nettex total mite spray is good look for something with permethrin, ant powders. Dergall another good product
I use a butane gas blowlamp all round the chicken house, including the perches, two or three times a year. Heat gets in all the crevices. Takes a little time to learn how long to keep it in one position before it starts to char. In the UK start looking for any sign of mites from February onwards. Try and get ahead of the game to prevent an infestation. Treat your birds early on with your chosen remedy.
Sarah, you should have learnt before getting chicken that chickens are foraging animals. This means they move objects around to see what's underneath and like to explore their environment. This will cause a "mess". You keep repeating this, like you never knew before getting them.
Hi
can you do more chicken videos
Eggs are a chicken's unfertilized reproductive cycle. Yuck! 🤮 ... and a cholesterol bomb. I want to rescue battery hens one day. Your hens are sooo lucky!! 💖
please answer me sarah
Lol wtf
They need a rooster to keep them from fighting.
can i have some chickens of you please sarah
do you want babby chicks
