Tourischeva always had a mental toughness, consistency and she always delivered when was count. She had calm and concetration when competed and always being so humble. And her coach was a big hit too. That is all.

Ludmilla was truly a graceful gymnast and espressed some truly quality line formation in everyone one of her routines. Her floor exercises were simply breathtaking. As she would perform each note of her music with such clarity and precision. This was also extended in other gymnastic apparatuses as well. Including her dual high bar and balance beam routines. She is so underrated and hardly spoken of today in the same manner as Olga and Nadia.

I was smitten with Ludmilla when I was about 14 but I remembered her as a much older woman. It's funny looking back at these pictures how young she was. I didn't appreciate the grace and ballet that she displayed I was too young but I did see her focus and toughness it was mesmerising.

ludmilla is always a joy to watch 💗 her mental toughness, calm demeanor and concentration when she performs really inspires me. not only that, she was very considerate, especially towards nadia. i think so much as to say that she was proud to hand the torch to nadia, to signify that she wishes progress through a new era in gymnastics. she thought of the young nadia as a role model for young gymnasts, a talent who would never go to waste. i think deep down she was really proud that nadia earned a 10, nadia would just prosper after that and she knew it. she saw herself in her. a strive to succeed, toughness, and dedication to her craft. that, is what i really love about ludmilla. i feel that the gymnasts in the years to come, shaposhnikova, omelianchik, shushunova, etc, all looked up to ludmilla as a force that enables gymnastics to be seen as a profession of powerful peoples. and she inspired me, as well. as an ex gymnast, i loved some of the soviets. i still do, but i’ll never forget my first time watching a soviet perform their routines. i was in awe of almost every soviet, from natalia kuchinskaya to oksana omelianchik.

Olga just felt more human to me. Ludmila was usually very stoic, which was very typical for the Soviets. They weren't really allowed to show much emotion or be individualistic. Then Olga came along and changed the western perspective. Crying in public was astonishing, and that moment put a human face on the Soviets who were shrouded in secrecy. She did more to bridge the gap between the Eastern bloc and the West than the politicians. If you weren't around at that time, you might not understand, but before Olga, gymnastics wasn't well known in the West. The gymnastics boom occurred because little girls were enamored with her. Ludmila was a great gymnast, but Olga was more relatable

Well, i'm old, the Soviet team visited Boston in the late 70s, performed an exhibition at the Boston Garden, with guests the Bulgarian women's rythmic team. Olga's showmanship was stellar. But her overly flexible spine, enabling her signature moves, is a technique impediment. Ludmilla's technique was impeccable. I'm used to stoic women, having been raised by one

such an interesting way to put it. i do think olga is a very warm and expressive person, she just..clicked with me. so bright, full of life, unlike some other soviets. i say the same for nadia as well. but, ludmilla, had graceful lines and flow throughout all her routines, truly captivating and original, which is why i think that she should’ve been recognized in the same manner as nadia and olga in that respect.

Women’s gymnastics was more about dance, elegance, a graceful flow to every routine in every category when Tourischeva was on her way to retirement in the sport and Korbut was just entering. Tourischeva was elegant. Her movements were feminine and graceful. Korbut was tiny, muscular, and had an athleticism that lead to fantastical, difficult tumbling and almost frightening tricks on beam, vault, and bars. Korbut was the first famous little firecracker to move away from being more feminine. Judges were set in their ways. They didn’t like that women’s gymnastics was moving toward more athleticism. They were blatant in their distaste at the changes and screwed over Korbut and other more athletic female gymnasts. I adored Tourischeva and her elegance, but I was also in awe of Korbut. I still miss the almost ethereal beauty of what floor exercise used to be. Now it’s just one unbelievable tumbling pass after another with pauses in the corners for the gymnast to try to gulp in enough air to sling and twist and turn herself through the air. Throw in a couple of leaps. Roll on the floor. One last amazing tumble from corner to corner. Dramatic drop to the mat. The End. Korbut and Comaneci changed gymnastics for women. There might never have been a Simone Biles if the coaches for Olga and. Nadia had not molded them into gravity defying fearless perfectionists. I could go into the harshness of state funded athletics behind communist borders but that’s another story for another day.

Olga did beat her at the 72 Munich games, floor routine. Olga did surpass Ludmilla for a period. She is a different beauty than Olga, they are different in every respect except the passion for gymnastics. Ludmilla imo had a healthier body and beamed of radiant health, where as Olga looked more starved to me and sadly picked up smoking. Ludmilla looks to have exterior radiance but beauty is only skin deep and Olga won over the crowd every time because her beauty more so lie from within and burst outward. She wore her heart on her sleeve and that is why if you insist on competition, Olga won favor with the world due to her vulnerability, charm, charisma, passionate determination & graceful works of art while proving we are all at times imperfect with flaws but she never gave up and had the right attitude. She won people's hearts. Ludmilla never had that impact on the audience and never had a warm connect.

Ludmilla was incredibly graceful. I think Olga had sensational moves but not quite the finesse Ludmilla had. In those days artistry was still an important part of gymnastics. If difficultly requirements were met, artistry tipped the scales in favor of the gymnast with the best form. Ludmilla had that over Olga. For example, on Olga's back flip on the unevens both of her legs were bent, a definite form break. Sensational yes, but most likely there was a deduction for form. That was fair.

@@buserk At the 1972 Munich Games, the floor was made of “25-millimeter-thick Oregon pinewood slats, a 14-meter square area of which was covered in heavy-duty carpeting.” Although the carpet burns must have been horrendous, the pinewood would have provided some amount of cushioning and shock absorption. 😀 As i remember some improvement came at the beginning of 80 ties...but was step by step till we have what Simone Biles had in 2016 for example. Internationally the judges are from everywhere how the communist party exactly influenced? I think here the most important lesson is that you could be very talented and innovative in sport but without strong character and cold mind you can't be the best. For me Olga was more innmature probably. That ingredient is very important i see very often very strong Gymnast that because of mentality loose in many occasions and the most stable ones mentally are with the best consistency in sport. A lot have changed since, but I think there are always things that the common pleople do not see and only when you hear from the the insiders you realize the whole picture, but of course I think Ludmilla is one of the greatest gymnast of all time and I remember her well, Olga too, it was a golden era for the sport.
