I remember this game from a vacation I took with my family to P.E.I. back in the late 80's... The resort was part of a really nice golf course and at the main hub of the resort there was a small arcade. Black Tiger was one of the games and I remember playing the shit out of it! That would have been the summer of 1989. I was 12 and going into grade 8... What memories!
Yeah, definitely a great mix of platforming and action. 👍 For when the game came out it was ahead of it's time and holds up amazingly well still. Hope you try it out! 🙂
yeah, compared to Ghosts and Goblins (or even Ghouls n Ghosts) this one is easier by a good amount. Still enjoyable, just must less stressful to 1 credit, not so random compared to those games.
I have been playing this game since I was 13 and I am about as good as you. Great play though - you missed a couple of secrets but the final boss fight was epic.
At home, I'm usually using a standard sanwa jlf stick and sanwa buttons. It's in an Eightarc Fusion case, but I swapped the pcb to a Brook universal fighting board.
It removes the "poison" status that some things can inflict on you. The poison makes it so you don't release the throwing knives when you attack, so your attacks are much weaker. One example of the poison being inflicted is the final Black Dragon...pay attention to my potion count during that fight. I start with 25, by the time he is defeated, I h ave 23. The blue flames would have caused me to become poisoned! You can buy the potions after you have the poison status, but if you have them in your inventory when you get poisoned, it simply removes one potion from your total. Other enemies that can cause poison: the man-eating plants, blue flames shot by higher level magicians (basically any blue flames). Hope this helps, and thanks for commenting!
I unfortunately recently sold my black tiger pcb. This is emulation, wolfMAME v.215 MiSTer FPGA stuff is super awesome though, I really love the community that's been built around it.
i cannot make the jump on the 7th stage to get to the boss. i just hit the fucking wall every time. any tips? 32:35 for reference. been trying for like half an hour.
Sure, I think I can help... Be sure you have an 8-way joystick or controller, because you have to hold up/forward diagonal to get the forward high jump. It's actually not possible to make this jump on a 4-way stick that can't register both of the directions (the diagonal) at the same time.
Black Tiger will soon be released for the open source MiSTer FPGA project by a developer names Jotego. There are several arcade cores that are cycle accurate. Check out the project! Misterfpga.org

Great memory, thank you for sharing!
This game looks great. A little bit Mario and a little bit of Castlevania

One of Capcom's most challenging games. And to think, after a year of playing it, I can actually beat it with just 1 credit.
nice!
thanks for commenting and checking out my run
This game kicks assss
definitely, one of the best of its era!
Ghost Goblins still more hard...but i LOVE this game indo also with 1 credit, but Ghost and Goblins was more hard when i did in past.

What controller did you use? I use a Wico with Sanwa buttons.

@@Pete_Hahn Well it would have to be 8 way for stage 7. Lol so many people ask me about that and it is so simple.
How did you feel about fighting the Black Dragon on this run?
You started off well and then it went a bit pear shaped. Loved the aggression though.
If you jump the dragon will rise. It is programmed to do that. Use your potions and keep down.
Btw what does the potion do again?

Is this PCB or MAME? The MiSTer FPGA just got a core of this. It plays perfect with no input/display lag.
