If you'd like a tip to keep the birds from eating a lot of your strawberries: paint some small stones to look like ripe strawberries and lay them in with the plants a little while before the real strawberries begin ripening. Agreed, it also lessens the pain emotionally and physically if you have a bad harvest - "at least I didn't break my back digging up grape sized potatoes! "😄
A year and a half ago I bought a blueberry bush that was smaller than yours. Last summer it grew massively, producing lots of new branches and it is now around a metre high. And it produced blueberries. You'll most likely have to repot that bush next spring! My bush is in a pot and one day, when I find my forever home, I hope to plant it in a garden and get a few more bushes. Blueberry bushes produce more fruit when there are other blueberry bushes around them.
I was checking the comments for this. I found out the hard way that one bush isnt enough. I figured oh, self pollinating, perfect! and barely get berries. 3 years later and I find out you should have at least 2.

Hi! I've seen almost all your videos since u did the first video about bees and i love all your videos this one included. Thanks for filming this tipe of content. 🇪🇦🇪🇦
You have one of the most interesting and relaxing channels out there. Really enjoying watching the journey of the bees, garden, and now an allotment! I'm so invested!
Around here, (USA) we're told blueberries need another cultivar of blueberry for pollination and to produce berries. I'm by far no expert, but it wouldn't hurt to have a second blueberry plant (of a different variety) if you can find the room for it. I adore the journey we've witnessed in your gardening different ways along with the beekeeping. Thank you for sharing these videos!
That is true but in the uk most of us live in city’s towns and villages and you can almost guarantee that one of you neighbours have one or you can buy a self fertile variety
I love your gardening videos, they are very relaxing and educational. Gardening is so much fun and there is so much to learn. Hello from a 10 year novice on the east coast of Canada! 🇨🇦
Hi! I’ve noticed your slug and snail problem. A simple, inexpensive solution is to sprinkle crumbled eggshells around your plants. This method works best on the ground. If the plants are in pots, they sometimes climb the rim and may eat protruding leaves but will spare the stem. Snails and slugs can’t cross eggshells as it’s painful for them when the jagged edges poke them. The eggshells will soon deteriorate and fertilize your garden while repeling the slugs and snails, and you can just sprinkle more on top of the soil when the eggshells break down.
Hi Alex, A cloth called tulle can be used to cover the plants to protect them from getting eaten by insects and animals. It comes in different colors. Enjoy all your strawberries. 😅
Did you know that plants like it when you talk to them? Giving them names, talking to them and playing positive music can really help them. Some plants will visibly respond to your voice and to the music you play for them. I used to work at a plant nursery and it's amazing how fast a wilty plant will perk up at the sound of a kind word or beautiful music.
@@just_alexPlants don't usually like angry music, genre doesn't really matter i don't think just needs to be positive. I used to play pop, classical and alt rock on the radio for them and plants seemed to love it.
@@sabrewinchester Mythbusters did a thing on it forever ago and the plants responded best to 24/7 metal hahah. But classical gained pretty similar results, any music is far better than none.
I'd been growing flowers a couple years before your videos, but it was you who inspired me to grow veg this year for the first time. I've got my first earlies, second earlies, sungold & supersteak tomatoes, corn, beans and pumpkins, strawberries, all growing now and will be growing onions, carrots, and more. Like you I got permission from my parents: if I feed them, I can grow anything I can pay for.
Your seed poking stick actually has a name, it's called a dibber, and they can trace their origins all the way back to the Romans. They come in various designs including bigger ones for bulbs. Mind you, a standard bamboo stake does just as well for a few seeds. If you're doing loads of seeds you may want a proper one 🙂
love your videos Alex. I am a gardener myself as i have been doing it for about 2 years now and their truly isn't anything more rewarding than growing your own food!
I recommend you to read more about blueberry growing, the compost is good for 3 months or so but because you water the plant all the time the aciditi washes from the soil not like sweden, because in sweden they have alot of rain all year round so there soil stays acidic. In different from sweden, you need to acidify your soil 3 times a year, iam doing it in march june and september so i reccomend you to do it too... good luck in the garden alex !!!
Blueberry’s are a pain they need constant acidification. Raspberry’s are way easier and the yellow rasps are way better then any blue berry. Added bonus they flower almost whole summer
Hi Alex, When Plant matter rots away, the process always makes the Compost acidic. In the special Compost bags you can buy they most likely neutralize it again by adding calcium. Using Wood Ash is a nice way to DIY that
I'm pretty sure adding pine or fir needles in the soil/compost can make it more acidic. Thank you for this video - I delayed a bit sowing but with this inspiration I'm going to start right now.
I recently got a 60 sqm allotment patch near my place. It’s been a lot of work since it’s overgrown with weeds but the first things are growing now. I’m so proud of it and it’s so much fun. I also grow veggies on my balcony.

Great job Alex , when you use grow box with led grow light make sure when you move plant outside to aclimate them…otherwise the sun it will burn them ! Good luck
very nice and interesting! also about acidity in soil, my mom uses compost for acidity and ashes to reduce the acidity for plants that want less of it. i think i remember onions want reduced acidity, its realy simple once you find out what needs what. love your videos, keep it up!
With acid soil you should be aware how it is made - mostly it is made by digging up peat mosses, which releases a lot of CO2 which of course isn't ideal. You can make it your self, and that might be your next adventure? wood ships, pine trees particular, will help the acidic soil. Really enjoying your journey! Nice one, Alex bring on the nice weather we all need some sun 🌞 and to see how you plants 🪴 do and your bee's 🐝 🐝🐝😁👍
What a great way to spend your pocket money. The investment is minimal for the rewards! So smart of you.
You are my favourite channel! I love how honest you are showing how you aren’t feeling up to it some days and that you don’t know everything but we can figure it out together. I am on my third year gardening too and watching you do it along side has been a wonderful pleasure! Thank you for being yourself 💙
Love your videos mate! Largely thanks to your videos I have started growing some stuff in my little garden too. Some went fantastic, some disastrous but it was fun nevertheless! Lets see what this year will bring, shall we? Greetings from Mexico!
Awesome video Alex. Love the way you're able to document and showcase your process of doing things. Whether it's gardening, foraging or anything else you are able to make it fun and interesting to watch.
Looking forward to sharing your story too! :)
Nice to see your growing updates, we planted some cherry tomato, plum tomato, basil, lettuce in the greenhouse over the Easter holiday, also some chilli seeds indoors. Looking forward to seeing how your planting goes.
Just sowed my seeds today! So excited to follow your journey :)
How cool will that be, to come back to the planting site and seeing the trees you helped plant grow into an orchard! You'll get to pick fruit from your very own work while working on your plot.
You need 2 different varaities of blue berry bushes to get any berries.
Unless a verry near neighbour has a different blueberry bush.
I came across your channel in the past 6-8 months I love your videos. Always had in inch for garden this year will be my first take. You and a couple others inspired to drive into the garden
Good luck with it :)
Alex I love you vids I just can't stop watching them

Alex it is such a pleasure watching your channel. I love how you find a way to garden regardless where you are. You are an inspiration to me , thank you. 😀
It was nice to see another well made video from you Alex. I hope you get that new allotment soon.
Love the shades of thyme pot!
Chive flowers are delicious in a salad. Chives don't flower until the second year. I planted mine last year and hope they'll flower in the summer. Good luck with yours Alex :)

Bonus adorable garden centre Burmese kitty rollover!
❤❤❤❤❤Finally!!!Been waiting for this🎞️🎥
I absolutely love watching your videos! Currently travelling with my partner but once back in the UK and we get a house I am so excited to start gardening! You’ve also inspired me to get bees. Truly exciting to see our generation and younger get into nature as that is how we are going to save it ❤
Thanks for the inspiration. After watching you and your garden last year, I've started my own .... I had my first cucumber grow and I'm so excited.
I love this guy, I'm into shorter videos that have a bit of everything in them and this was a wonderfully put together!
Really enjoying your adventures into gardening, bee keeping, and skiing! Thanks for sharing everything that you are doing and learning!
thanks!
You can cut those potatoes up before planting into 2-4 chunks to get even more potato plants growing.
You're doing a fantastic job. Not that you need anyone's approval. You do you, keep nature in mind, and you'll be grand. 🤟💚
I just found your channel from your trip to Slovenia and I’ve been browsing through your videos which I’m so glad I did! Thank you for showing us how life can be so simply and enjoyable.
I could watch your videos everyday all day long. So relaxing for me!
I was confsed at first when you started talking about allotments. As an American I had never heard of these, but the idea is really cool! Thank you for all of your videos. It always makes me laugh when you say certain words differently. Rooting for you! (get it?)
So excited to watch this upload!!!
Don't forget to date your seed packs, that way you can keep track of how old they are!! You cam also get a binder with pocket sleeves and use it to organize your seeds while also keeping a sheet of paper with them in their pocket sleeves with any tips or vital information to help you garden more efficiently on each sheet ❤ I find binders are absolutely amazing for gardeners! Can't wait to see all the harvesting and meals!! ❤
Really looking forward to seeing more of the allotment and also the progress you are making with your garden. Really enjoying these laid back gardening videos Alex.
YOU ARE JUST INSPIRING ME TO START MY OWN BALCONY GARDEN AND I TRUELY LOVE DOIN IT ... BIG THANKS ^^ ( please more videos )

Can't beat growing your own. 💚😁
Great job Alex , when you use grow box with led grow light make sure when you move plant outside to aclimate them…otherwise the sun it will burn them ! Good luck
I have really enjoyed watching your gardening videos. It is really fun to watch a passionate gardener be born!
Alex i could listen to you all day! You crack me up!! Looking forward to your next update.
once this blueberry is a success, you might also get a plant that is like the wild blueberries you picked in Sweden. They are available in some shops.
very nice and interesting! also about acidity in soil, my mom uses compost for acidity and ashes to reduce the acidity for plants that want less of it. i think i remember onions want reduced acidity, its realy simple once you find out what needs what. love your videos, keep it up!
Thanks for this free content that beats any channel on tv 🙏. Cheers from Belgium, you make me driving to the store and start gardening!
my english accent and my gardening are getting better, many thanks
With acid soil you should be aware how it is made - mostly it is made by digging up peat mosses, which releases a lot of CO2 which of course isn't ideal. You can make it your self, and that might be your next adventure? wood ships, pine trees particular, will help the acidic soil. Really enjoying your journey! Very inspiring, also for those of us who have done it for some time... I love it!
I just went back to watch your old gardening vids yesterday! I'm very excited to see what's next in the gardening saga 🙏🙏
You should be able too plant sweet pea 's in your bedroom window and have the string for them to grow up that's what I do in Arizona 🇺🇸 because it's really to hot out side to grow them. Was so excited for this new video.❣️
