I LOVE that Reverend Mother! She absolutely kills me....reminds me of the one I had the year I went to Catholic Summer school......I was about to start 2nd grade. She terrified me so much, I pleaded with my mother 2 send me 2 regular school! 😁
dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you are bored like me atm you can stream all of the new series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my girlfriend these days =)
The nuns in my school (maybe 1/3 of all teachers + the principal, Sister Anne Celine) were 90% wonderful and as kind as you could imagine, especially Sister Anne Celine, but there were a few older ones who always seemed to get the "problem children" in their classes. They scared everyone. I only had lay teachers, and I can never say enough about Sister Anne Celine. She did a few very personal and generous generous services for my mother and my family when we truly were in dangerous and desperate times. The one weird thing that I don't understand to this day was why we had to bow and say "pardon me" every time we walked past a nun or a priest in the hallway. They smiled and were pleasant about it, but what a weird custom.
I think this series is better than Dads Army there is no doubt that Arthur Lowe and the other members of the cast had a gem here and three series was a TIMID number to stop at.
From Wikipedia: Yes I enjoyed that very much. I enjoyed that because it was such a change from playing these bumbling old Englishmen, but... I would have liked to do more of that but for some reason or other we didn't and I don't know quite why. For one thing I know young Abineri, the boy who played my curate, he went to Australia, more or less on a permanent basis. He married a girl out there and we've lost him to the clergy but... I don't think that was a sufficient reason in itself, I mean there must've been some other politics behind it, because one can always get another curate [for the series]... however Lionel Jeffries has done something similar as recently so... - Arthur Lowe on the series, interviewed on Pebble Mill at One on 15 April 1982, the same day as his death. That interview is on UA-cam.
It is a Gothic one rather than Roman but some Gothic sets did exist in the preconciliar era. I get your point though. The Roman variety was infinitely more common before the Council, but Gothic vestments were certainly also used. I love watching these because Peter De Rosa, still alive at 88 and still controversial, clearly put a lot of work into advising set designers though the canned clapping jars. He served as a priest in the Archdiocese of Westminster between 1956-70 and has written numerous books.
@@julianmeek2156 Yes, in the following months since my comment I have become a bit more informed on vestments. The Gothic was fairly rare although there are early 20th century pictures of it, usually a Bishop and even a pope.
I was brought up by my grandmother she told me to either marry a policeman or join a convent and be a nun or ya life won't be worth living she was never ever wrong I did neither I would of been to worried about him every time he went on duty praying for him to come back alive and in one piece no limbs and eyes missing and I got put off the convent because of mothers superiors like her on there and mother Monica and sister Anthony in my secondary school and junior school dear God were they severe when they got angry especially sister Anthony I can remember asking my grandmother what a handsome lad father Neil was why was he a priest and she said he's to handsome to get married if he marries one all the others will be sad and upset if he didn't marry them so he married the church instead he's in safe there and the women can't chat him up anymore coz it's not allowed it's a sin and I believed her coz to me she's quite right although I dunno if he would be that safe in there these days with the kiddy fiddling and homosexuality amoungt Catholic priests and church of England prodestant are even worse but the Queen will never ever give her blessing to two blokes getting married coz it will send her to hell and she knows it will
I prefer to Just enjoy this program for its entertainment value. For mr. king to say that the attitude of the catholic Church is idiotic, is presumptuous at the very least. Maybe it is to be given more thought if like minded persons checked out the postings about how with the low birth rate, countries are facing the collapse of traditional Cultures and being Populated out of existence. Check out what is happening in England, France, Sweden. Maybe Large Christian families should have continued to acceptable instead of the driven pursuit of Materialism.
I know this is a sitcom, and a great one at that, but there is a hidden under message here from the writer, about the idiotic Roman Catholic church's attitude towards conceiving, contraception and having huge families. Peter De Rosa who wrote it actually trained to be a priest and was a novice curate before quitting when he had issues with the church.
"...idiotic Roman Catholic church's..." Is the Church idiotic, or some of its precepts and /or practices? I don't believe even the most ardent and faithful believers are idiots. Misguided, misinformed, or simply mistaken...a condition in which every one of us has been from time to time, often not noticed until someone else points it out. If done with empathy, compassion, and humility, it can be a most dignifying and edifying experience.
Lol Japan is dying off, China has killed the infant girls in the womb, millions mind you, sex selection, and now shockingly the males needing to find wives have none. Native Europe is dying off, other than invading Muslims who have more sense. All for goddess Gaia to depopulate the earth. Get to the golden billion as it's called. People are really gullible. In similar vein, anthropomorphic global warming. Sure
I just came across this video thinking it was a Father Brown Mystery. It really is a story making fun of the Catholic priesthood and the Catholic Church that I love so much... shame on you!!!
A very funny comedy show. Bella Veritas resents, maybe fears, the gentle humour of Bless Me Father which accurately depicted the nicer side of priests. The reality about her beloved Church is not so funny. Attacking these scripts only shines a light on the reality of an organisation that encouraged child-abusing priests to continue their abuse by unashamedly moving them from parish to parish and whose nuns systematically stole babies from young unmarried mothers whilst enslaving them for years (in places such as the Magdalen laundries) in order to pay for their mortal sin of having sex. Many priests and nuns were good people like those shown here. Many others, however, will have hoped that their beliefs about the existence of a Hell were wrong.

@Tyler Ben Definitely, I've been watching on instaflixxer for months myself =)
I love Arthur Lowe, but only know him as Captain Mainwaring, so coming across your channel is like finding treasure. Thank you 💘
What a great line. The bishops says no miracles are allowed in England.
One of my teachers at school was a nun and VERY similar to Mother Stephen. Probably why 30 years lster nuns still terrify me.

i am surprised that the rain water in the water bottle did not turn the inside of it green at least they now know way it had got a bad smell
I never would have imagined that Captain Mainwaring could do a reasonably good Irish accent.
Besides a few words I wouldn’t have realized he’s trying to do an Irish accent.
Where is the church located shown in the opening song?
It is in Kingston-upon'-Thames London but is actually a C of E parish Church.
Small nitpick but his chasable was wrong. It's a post vatican 2 one.
