I honestly feel like Aljo and camp Serra are just taking advantage of Merab's loyalty. He seems loyal to a fault. Matt Serra was a TUF winner and later on coached TUF. He knows that fighting a teammate is just how it is sometimes. I really hope Merab doesn't look back on this when he's retired and regret it. He has a very, very good shot at taking that title away from anybody, including Aljo. His style of fighting is absolutely insane and I don't think anybody in that division can outpace him. He was shooting in the 5th the same way he was shooting in the 1st. Unreal.

I’m honestly upset by how many people didn’t see this coming.
Well other then O’Malley showing he was the best striker in the division against Yan, Yan still looked nearly unstoppable to be able too wrestle with Aljo and being close with Suga in the striking he seemed still the top of the division. It’s not surprising to see Merab win with how good his uprise has been but too completely dominate Yan, We haven’t seen that.
O'Malley now has zero chances at the belt.

@@SBAssociation Rewatch the fight, O'malley grabbed Yan's gloves and the cage 10+ time in that fight and was allowed to get away with it by UFC's corrupt refs, the shill commentary avoided mentioning it. That should've at least been a point deduction as it has been in many other fights. If Sean wasn't allowed to cheat in that fight he never makes it close enough to get a rigged decision.

@@lennieleng9679 unfortunately, their friendship comes at the cost of the division’s stability. Even Dana acknowledged this as a problem. It can’t happen for long or else it could become completely stagnant if a certain few fight outcomes occur. They need to fight each other or move divisions

So far it hasn’t affected the division at all, considering after Yan’s rightful runback, Aljo had and has to fight 2 former champions that skipped the line and Merab had been working his way up the ranks. If Aljo beats Cejudo and then defends against O’Malley if he has one more fight, how would that be holding up the division?
My man Merab. He unintentionally proves how humble and good person he is alongside being a great fighter and athlete. He's doing it right when he's refusing to fight Aljo for the sake of their friendship and Aljo also said that if Merab wins again, he would change the weight and move up, however, he's fighting Cejudo already and not a big problem cause Merab just fought. But Aljo should not start talking about having another fight with O'malley because he knows very well what it means for Merab, especially when UFC is pushing him.
It is my opinion that Merab should not waste an year for waiting because he's in his prime now and it's about time to fight for the belt. If Aljo wins against Cejudo, he should vacate the belt and move up, if he looses, Cejudo vs Merab should be a title fight and Aljo can fight O'malley if he wants.

I like how respectful he is, but I don’t really care if a fighter isn’t respectful. They’re under no obligation to act any way other than the way they want to act. He did blow out the record for spamming shots tho lol. Kind of an aggravating fight to watch because of Petr’s defense, was like he said, he just wanted to do enough to get the points for the decision and he did it. I do disagree with all the talk of him being a professional, but then saying he won’t fight the champion if it’s Aljo. Teammates have fight plenty of times, and being professional means taking it as your job, not a personal beef. I don’t think Yan wanted to be in there with this guy, which is why he went so hard before the fight to get in his head. He knew it was going to be a night of nothing but defending shots.
