@InTheBoxReviews Yes, this prop is based on the Peter Brackaki prop in its last years with Tom Baker. However, the toy does resemble the Newberry prop due to the squat look, however the decals are based on Brackaki.
When I was a kid in the 1970`s I had a Tom Baker Doctor Who figure and a Tardis.....the Tardis had a revolving mechinism and a red button and a green button on the Tardis roof. When the doors of the Tardis were open the Baker figure could be put in it..when the Tardis doors were closed the lamp on the top of the Tardis could be rotated and stopped by pressing the green button...this made the Doctor disappear...to get him back again the lamp could be rotated again and then the red botton pressed
@dametrot Despite looking like the squatter Barry Newberry prop, this toy is infact the Barchaki prop used from 'An Unerthly Child' to 'The Seeds of Doom'. The Newberry prop is much lighter with narrower windows, which are slightly green/yellow and further set back doors hence the odd squat apearance on screen.
I really wish I could get this TARDIS but I'm in the US. I was really excited and about to order it, and then forbidden planet says that it can only be supplied to UK and Ireland buyers. I was kinda upset and looked for it on eBay and amazon. The only result was a used one from eBay...... It was just bought this morning. So now I can't find it anywhere on the web except the website forbidden planet.
Apparently they were working on an "interchangeable" TARDIS model, in scale of the first prop, which can have its signs and lamps changed round to suffice for the first three Doctors. Not sure if it still in production, the rumours seem to have died out.
Where do you get those tardis interior walls? I've been trying to look around, but I can't seem to find a good name for it. Backdrop? I'd be glad if somebody could point me in a direction here. Cheers
I think there Tom's hands are made differently...I like it how you say things like Oh I've dropped your umbrella...Great Review...I think for people who havn't got there figures yet it's nice to see what there like before you get them. And we have yourself doing this
I've already customised a White Window Hartnell TARDIS, so that the windows are dark blue, like so many of his stories. Would love a really "Battered paintwork" Second Doctor Police Box, like the one that lands in "The Krotons" (see the VHS)!! Oh, and would love some B/W Police Box props for Hartnell and Troughton, because they also look great! And Tom Baker era could give us a "Masque of Mandragora" style box, and a "Logopolis" style dark one! I mean, why not, CO - we'd buy 'em!
Love the flat roofed one the best, since this was the Tardis I always thought of when watching the old PBS reruns during the late 1980's and early 1990's.
The reson the 2 boxes are the same sculpt is because the maker originally designed it as an accurate McCoy box, but when he sent it off to CO the modified it so that the sculpt could be used for all 3 classic boxes. Annoying, but understandable, it costs a packet to get a new sculpt made. The maker, I remember said once that he was slightly annoyed that they didn't tell him about the mod, but was cheered up when the McCoy box started to get good reviews from buyers :)
@Cromford88 They feel there is a gap in the market for companions, not many people accept fans will remember people like Dodo, Susan and Nyssa. Plus likeness rights also play a difficult role in the manufacture of the figures.
@DanielNeedham2500 I don't think so, playsets don't sell well generally, so CO don't think kids/parents will want to buy an obsolete console room, when a version of one that's on TV is available.
This 11 Doctors box-set sounds good, but I don't have the money right now, and it'd probably be sold out by the time I do. Ah well, I've been hoping for a McGann figure for a while, but I guess I can make-do. What'd be really nice is if they made the McGann console room, that would be one NNNIIIICCEEE set. Wouldn't sell very well, but I'd love it!
@kopblue Hi! If you're after a Tom Baker era TARDIS specifically from his early 70's stuff (the golden age as I think of it!) then the set reviewed here is exactly what you're after. However, the McCoy TARDIS set features the Police Box used in Tom's final season when he wore the burgundy outfit. But if you want a 70's Box, then this is the one to go for! Apparently there is a 'Genesis of the Daleks' set with Tom and Davros out this year, but that's rumour for now.
@furyplum44 I personally prefer the box of the McCoy set and you get a new brown coated version of McCoy (unless you would rather get the 11 Doctors Set with the hatless head). Then of course you have the new Hartnell box being released in a couple of weeks. If you don't have the UC Hartnell singularly that could be a good buy, but if you'd rathr have the more traditional looking box I suggest McCoy.
I'd like to see a movie Doctor (Cushing) with Tardis. I'm sure there's a market for it, but perhaps they don't have a licence for that as it wasn't BBC.
@cyblox07 I don't think so, all of the classic TARDIS looked very similar with the odd exception. The new series prop doesn't follow the dimensions of an actual Police Box, its too chunky.
A Tom Baker stacked-roof TARDIS, with a re-released "Pyramids of Mars" 4th Doctor, would make a great new 4th Doctor Set! A light blue/dark signs TARDIS, for the 3rd Doctor, could come with Jon Pertwee in a red jacket, just as he was in "The Three Doctors". Another much-desired item, for me, would be a tweak of the Hartnell Police Box TARDIS, this time with the very dark blue colour scheme, added to the Window Frames as well, and around the door sign. As in so many 60's TV stories. :-D
Would love to see the McCoy Police Box re-released, as a variant: with stacked roof, but with Tom Baker Box colours and signs! Just because I prefer my TARDISes to have Angled and/or Stacked Rooves! Another easy variant for CO would be, the same McCoy Box, complete with the same light blue colours, but with the darker signage (white lettering, black background), as a "The Three Doctors" - type TARDIS! Again, just because I think it looks cool!
@batmanmarch Dunno about you, but I'd love to see a set of the Peter Cushing Doctor figure with TARDIS (Which TARDIS toy you think would be most accuate so far if I was needed to make one from an existin one?) and that on would have the funky sounds from the 2 Dalek films. :D
@MsipmsonW The fourth Doctor decreases what would have made the set even better. Even if they just gave him one head and changed the body, it would have been better than a re-release!
@darrylsm6 If they didn't, it wouldn't be hard to make. All you would need is a quick repaint of that Baker model there, essentially the same scale wise, the only real difference is, it needs a sloped roof. You could even do it in Sylv's style.
At 6:41 how did you get rid of the sticker inside? I'm trying to do that with my 9th doctor money box, because it's really annoying and it will spoil my figure adventures. Can you reply please.
So, are you going to get the series 5 Flight Control Tardis? I want it, but I've been reading that the signs and interior don't light up and that's disappointing.
Sorry I sent that I like the tardis money box custom mum wont let me buy it I'm allowed to by the money box and custom it! can you give me some advise?
@batmanmarch ahhhh I see, I thought it was the Newberry prop as the base is wider than the Barchaki one and the lip round the pull to open sign isn't on the mid s70s one either, but as you say in yr review thats more to do with the making of the toy. good news anyho as I'd love a Newberry model with a 16/17th season long scarfed Baker at some point fingers crossed lol ps how amazing is the 11 dr set, can't wait!!!
@penninefilms I'd love them too, but if it were to be an exclusive then it would be very pricey. I don't think its too likely at the moment, but maybe someday!
it would have been better released with the newer vertion of tom baker being released in the 11 doctors set but then they would have to change the tardis design slightly
@talentshowdown Its exactly the same, the only difference being the glossy sheen to the jacket. It's the same jacket from season 12 at the beginning of season 13.
got the Sylvester McCoy and tardis as I don't need another Tom Baker figure! However the baker flatter roof tardis is MY tardis as its the one I really started watching the show with, so will have to buy it in the end lol Now without getting too geeky lol ...... the flatter roof one is the second tardis prop as first one used from unearthly child onward collapsed during Seeds of Doom the flatter roof one featured from The Masque of Mandragora up to and including The Horns of Nimon.
LOL, I crack up every time when that cat comes into frame! is is the same cat you coulnd't get off your lap in your confidentila episode? eg " I can't get the fucking cat off!"
@batmanmarch Hello, I am a child of the 70's and a huge dr Who Tom Baker fan. Really enjoy the reviews very helpful, I own all the Baker episodes on VHS/DVD. Have only just started collecting the CO figures from Bakers era since November. I am purchasing the older releases off ebay/amazon, tho' it has worked out cheaper buying some loose, really great reproductions Can you recomend a suitable Tardis release toy that would match up with this era. also any news on 2011 baker era releases. Ta
Oh man, i remember watching these videos when i was 4 years old. So happy these vidoes are still up. That intro is ingrained in my childhood.
when I draw the TARDIS I always do the flat roof Tom Baker's version is the one for me too.
the angle that it's at at 3:50 looks Luke th opening to the tomb of the Cybermen

Thanks For this great review buddy, Good to see all those Tardis together for comparison!
@jorjlim No I meant the actual prop on telly is too chunky. Too wide, it should be much thinner like the classic props.
He must've been the guy overseeing the design of the TARDIS at the time.
Apparently they were working on an "interchangeable" TARDIS model, in scale of the first prop, which can have its signs and lamps changed round to suffice for the first three Doctors. Not sure if it still in production, the rumours seem to have died out.

i took my seventh doctor tardis apart to get it to open fully like the others
The reson the 2 boxes are the same sculpt is because the maker originally designed it as an accurate McCoy box, but when he sent it off to CO the modified it so that the sculpt could be used for all 3 classic boxes. You could put a light inside the tar is to make its windows light up, although, it would be inaccurate.
So if I were to buy the 4th Doctor's TARDIS and the 7th Doctor's TARDIS it would cover all the doctors?
This 11 Doctors box-set sounds good, but I don't have the money right now, and it'd probably be sold out by the time I do. that is so adorable when the cat came

@VirtualDalek Yeah, she seems to like the Doctor Who range. especially the interchangeable heads!

I got this figure on Sunday, although my door on my TARDIS is very fiddly but it's still brilliant.
@rifraf No, that was a friend of mines. This cat is one we just bought on Thursday.
Can you imagine if they re-released these, all that money they would make
Doctor who Productions yeah.. oh god
your cat rocked that video!
Would love to see the McCoy Police Box re-released, as a variant: with stacked roof, but with Tom Baker Box colours and signs! Just because I prefer my TARDISes to have Angled and/or Stacked Rooves!

Oh so that is where I got my second Robot 4th Doctor figure from. I was wondering where I got a second one for a while now >
The Fourth Doctor set looks more like it's from "Ark in Space". Because he had an Orange Cravat in Planet of Evil.
I much preferr the roof on the baker prop
@batmanmarch
Dunno about you, but I'd love to see a set of the Peter Cushing Doctor figure with TARDIS (Which TARDIS toy you think would be most accuate so far if I was needed to make one from an existin one?) and that on would have the funky sounds from the 2 Dalek films. :D

@26QProductions Yeah I'm not keen on the spring doors as they never stay in place the first time. Those sets were fake unfortunately.
I wish I could get a Doctor-Tardis pack with the Twelfth Doctor from Twice upon a time
Could you use this as a William Hartnell aswell as Patrick, Jon and Tom?
@SuperRichi1A i know its pretty easy but its been said the 8th doctors only in the 11 doctors boxset
great review ive ordered both tardises got the 7th today and i think it is the nicest tardis to be released
Great review. Will you/have you reviewed the Eleventh Doctor figure yet? I might have missed it.
where did you get that fourth doctor Tardis I want one where did you get it !?
Riley Hadley they're all sold out now, and cost hundreds of pounds on eBay, sadly
Is that huge cat from the episode 'Planet of the Giants' and does it come with the Tardis?
From the early years of Doctor videos, such as the Daleks: The Early Years and the Cybermen: The Early Years.
do you think they will make a classic tardis console and the 8th doctor tardis police box
@darrylsm6
If they didn't, it wouldn't be hard to make. All you would need is a quick repaint of that Baker model there, essentially the same scale wise, the only real difference is, it needs a sloped roof. You could even do it in Sylv's style.
hey batmanmarch where to you get the tardis backround
I think he made it.
no he bought it on eBay
SouthPark333Gaming Oh cheers.
He bort it
Great review!
OMG these were the days me aged 10 watching this and wishing to get it and then making my own videos where I copy what he says 😂😭
At 6:41 how did you get rid of the sticker inside? I'm trying to do that with my 9th doctor money box, because it's really annoying and it will spoil my figure adventures. Can you reply please.
Any idea they are thinking of making classic tardis enteriors?
So, are you going to get the series 5 Flight Control Tardis? I want it, but I've been reading that the signs and interior don't light up and that's disappointing.
Great review as always Matt, I think Tom's box is more appealing to me, but I'll make a final decision when I have both in the flesh.
Jamie
Sorry I sent that I like the tardis money box custom mum wont let me buy it I'm allowed to by the money box and custom it! can you give me some advise?
brilliant review! the cat strikes again! it seems to like the classic tardis sets don't you think?
They may as well have just said it's based off of "Revenge of the Cybermen".
@Segaman19 I couldn't believe it when both were released for the same day! It's getting too expensive!
how did you take the inside of the money box out
@batmanmarch ahhhh I see, I thought it was the Newberry prop as the base is wider than the Barchaki one and the lip round the pull to open sign isn't on the mid s70s one either, but as you say in yr review thats more to do with the making of the toy.
good news anyho as I'd love a Newberry model with a 16/17th season long scarfed Baker at some point fingers crossed lol
ps how amazing is the 11 dr set, can't wait!!!
what is the 11 doctors collector set
Dude, you could have just moved the TARDIS's themselves instead of the camera!
@greenfieldclose Oh hang on I think I've deciphered your comment. I'm saying they've done "sod all" to the figure? What did you think I was saying?
@penninefilms I'd love them too, but if it were to be an exclusive then it would be very pricey. I don't think its too likely at the moment, but maybe someday!
it would have been better released with the newer vertion of tom baker being released in the 11 doctors set but then they would have to change the tardis design slightly
will you show a custom of it
@masterdoctorten A set with all 11 Doctors.
*Tardis lands the cat goes in* 3:30
Marvellous review!!
If u have the doors open will it still make a noise©
@talentshowdown Its exactly the same, the only difference being the glossy sheen to the jacket. It's the same jacket from season 12 at the beginning of season 13.
got the Sylvester McCoy and tardis as I don't need another Tom Baker figure!

Now without getting too geeky lol ...... the flatter roof one is the second tardis prop as first one used from unearthly child onward collapsed during Seeds of Doom
the flatter roof one featured from The Masque of Mandragora up to and including The Horns of Nimon.
they might (might being the main word) do an 8th doctor and tardis
maybe not though :(
Hey where did you get that intro music from? I would like to get the whole song....
Bishop2120 I think it's from delta and the banner man. I know it is from the McCoy era
getting the 11th dr tardis?
If you dont like these scale TARDISes because of the boxiness and squareness than how do you like the actual ones
LOL, I crack up every time when that cat comes into frame! is is the same cat you coulnd't get off your lap in your confidentila episode? eg " I can't get the fucking cat off!"
what is ur fravoret classic tardis 7th drs or 4th drs
Well, I don't have the Tom Baker but I do think I prefer the one that comes with the Seventh Doctor.
@batmanmarch Hello,

This one looks great. I want this one!
Attack of the cute kitteh!!!!! That's an idea for a doctor who episode lol
I almost have all the tardis figures I have the 9th and 10th 11th and 7th but not the 5th or any customs
It comes with the T.A.R.D.I.S?
yes
Mine still haven't come ffs, why am I the unlucky one, we all paid the same ammount GRRR
@cyblox07 Because it is. Its far fatter and the windows and doors are much too large and square.
