How to Protect Trees from Ants with Duct Tape | Tanglefoot Not Needed
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- You can protect your trees from Ants by using Duct Tape on the trunk of the tree with glue side facing outwards. This is a hack instead of using Tanglefoot paste. Use this method only when fruits are ripening. Do not use it for long term as the Duct Tape is not flexible and does not allow expansion to accommodate the growth of the tree.

This answers my question. Thanks
Try this with fire ants and witness how they will sacrifice themselves to create a bridge made of fire ants...lol
Dukt tape is no match for the tree power grouth. It is not metal. Use your brain
Try this with fire ants and witness how they will sacrifice themselves to create a bridge made of fire ants...lol
I don't even have fire ants, just regular ants, but a whole civilization of them. There is nothing I tried where they won't sacrifice enough to get through. The buggers!
Excellent, I tried it and it works! Simple, inexpensive but effective, thank you Jag.
Great advice thank you I'll use this tip on my peach tree.God bless 🙏💜
Very helpful, no poisons involved. We could even paint some fresh glue on the ageing tape
Vaseline
Thank you so much! I saw ants crawling up my tulip tree. That was unacceptable! I am going to use your idea! Many thanks!
I have fire ants on my property.☹️ some of them are hanging out under my deck. I put 4 inch long strips of Gorilla tape under my step. One strip had between 500 and 1000 red ants stuck to it. 🙂
Also put duct tape on the tree very early morning b4 the ants climb up the tree so none are stuck above

Nailed it Jag! THX!
I will try it tomorrow to bring this tape and I have 3 trees effected so worst by the ants and starts the leaves to die and I searched for something not hurt the trees like your method. I wish to get out the ants from the trees.
Thanks, I will try
Thank you for this video! 👏🏼
Iuse plastic around the trunk then smear with coconut oil.the tree I'm protecting isn't a fruit tree but I'm finding the snails are feasting on the bark and theyre killing it.no more, problem solved for me.with me I just don't have the heart to kill anything, anyhow watching your video I thought no,poor ants stuck fast,a slow lingering death but its good to see theyre not attempting to climb up ,I myself still prefer the grease, but different strokes for different folks.go with what your comfortable with using.good video liked it.
Will this hinder the growth of the tree?
Genius
Thank you!!!!!!!!
I tried this but you have to keep changing the duct tape it's a lot of work I wish there was an easier method
Use lamda group pesticide
This is genius
How to remove this glue if applied directly on trunk?
I do not recommend using glue on trunk
Can you put tanglefoot on the sticky side of duct tape? I need it from ants entering my bluebird nest box? Thank you for the tip 😊
my cherry tree ruined by ants ,no fruits this year ,can any one tell me if i use copper tape for long term?
So where do the ants go
Duck tape are not easily found in india so can i used any kind of tape which are commonly found in india such as white transparent tape or brown tape?
No duck tape? Use chicken tape instead!
Amazon
Dear my mango tree attacked by so many big red ants. Now the fruits are ripening. The ants made white nests on the mango tree. They are not allowing us to walk under the tree. They are falling and roaming around the tree and biting us.Can anyone suggest me how can i control the ants.
Watch this video on 10 Natural ways to get rid of Ants ua-cam.com/video/dIGTfgTYlTg/v-deo.html
Doesn't work for me. The ants are so hardcore that they self-sacrifice and eventually create a bridge of their dead comrades. It works for maybe 1 day, and then they create a bridge across. Any other ideas?
Use the flagging tape and apply tanglefoot to it.
It will get rid of ants for sure.
@@johnnguyen4998 Can you explain more?
@@jrdx Home Depot sells Flagging Tape in the paint section area.
- you wrap the Flagging Tape around the main trunks of your fruit trees (around 5 inches high) and after that just apply a thin layer of Tanglefoot sticky cream around the Flagging tap so ants cannot crawling thru. You may have to reapply the Tanglefoot a couple times during the blooming season.
(Tanglefoot is sold at Home Depot, EBay or Amazon).
You should cut off the Flagging Tape ( with Tanglefoot on it) by the end of the each season.
I guarantee you will never see an ant on your tree again.
Good luck to you, my friend.
Tero bait sold at home depot...it will give them poison they take back to their nest and die, colony dead!
@@missmonica0876 Tried that as well. Doesn't work. The ants are also in our house and the Terro traps worked for like a year, but they always eventually came back and now they ignore them. I put Terro traps at the base of the tree and they never really indulged.
ayyyy,
I followed your advice. It was efficient for two or three days, but after a rain, ants came back walking on the wet surface of the duct tape again.
well rip
You could smear Vaseline on the tape.
Genius
Duct tape does not work in hot weather. It comes apart in hot weather. Trust me I know it did not work for me.
I Love Duct Tape! Thank you so much for the great tip.👍
Just tried it and it seems to be working. Only lost one ripening peach. Thanks for the video.
Glad it worked! :) Be sure to not use it long term as trees need room to grow and duct tape is not flexible.
I'm hoping not to have to use it more than a few days and the ants will give up.
. Not sure how long until they'll be ready to pick. They still have some light green on them.
Thanks so much for your valuable lessons on gardening. I have subscribed to your channel and all blessings to you and your family and friends
you look similar Derek from Veritasium
Big thx. Last year them ants did major work on my Grandma's fig tree. Ha I'm bck with a vengeance this year. 👍✌❤
I tried this on an oak tree where carpenter ants are nesting too high for me to root out and which haven't taken well to bait traps. The ants crawled right under the tape because of natural grooves in the bark. The solution to that was to stuff those spaces between the bark and the edges of the duct tape with bits of cotton ripped from cotton balls and so far it's been an effective barrier.
In here ants put dust and small rock in tapes so they wonts stick on to it and so they can make their way to trees.
thanks for the video. great information.
Perfect solution for my epic ant battle on my orange tree! Thank you for sharing!
Use tactical weapons..
Mix cinnamon powder with petroleum jelly
The ants will surrender
Ants will eat oranges from a tree too ?
@@ccdogpark ants protect the afids they milk which weakens the tree
And kill predictor insects that are beneficial
@@ccdogpark no, but nesting themselves into the leaves to make a louse farm...
My problem is that the tree bark is very uneven so the first layer of tape I put is with the sticky side against the tree trunk. That way, if they crawl under the tape they get stuck. The second layer is as you describe with the sticky side facing away from the trunk.
Duct tape dries out or bulges out after rain and then they still get through.
For how long it could stay sticky in partially rainy area?
This will only work for a few days..use the tanglefoot or the ants will cross the tape.
I think it is useless except when opened fresh on first time.
That shit won’t work past 2 or 3 days. Next…
Brilliant! Thanks!
Now... paint all this with Pine Tar...
I use Vaseline, it works too.
WORKED LIKE A CHARM!! you’re the man
great idea!!! thanks for tip!
But it drys up is no time
Hi from planet Australia I have a problem with my mango plant and I have type in their draw so I decided to use your method thank you very much I didn't have to go out to the shops or anything thank you enjoyed your tube thoroughly. 😊🌻🌏.
Probably won’t last long
Smart !
It’s good
How soon you need to take off the duct taps? Guess what> it only works for a short time due to the weather.
It only works for about 3 days and then you need to replace it.
Thanx needed this 😢
Great idea. I have ants climbing up a shepherds hook pole that holds my hummingbird feeder. I'm not wanting to put poison or such around the pole as it might harm the hummers. Thanks, I will try this.
Thank you for the info. I will definitely try this for my fruits trees that I collected. Greetings from Belgium
Anyone know a pesticide or powder, paint, adhesive...or anything besides duct tape that I can easily buy in Mexico..I don't live near big box stores
Yes I have read it before,it was cellophane tape..I use this method and spraying turmeric powder.it worked very well. My pembina lum tree is saved.
Lifesaver, best video I ever watched. I'm going straight outside now with duct tape in my hand!
People in the northeast US are doing this now to try and trap spotted lantern fly nymphs.
I'm surprised to see ants eat fruit from fruit trees. Do all ants do this or is just certain types of ants ?
As he says hit the subscribe button I'm watching ants crawling on up the tree. Not sure about this method.
Better still when sticky has gone
Slop grease on the tape rather than directly on the tree... Less mess
Just put tangle-foot on top of the tape when the glue is gone instead of adding layer upon layer of duct tape to it.
What happens when it rains 😂😂 ... tree grease works better
Ants killed two of my trees and they were NOT fruit trees.
This works - you just need to redo it every now and then!
This is the best and inexpensive solution. You're the best ❤️❤️❤️. Straight to the point.
Does this work for palm trees?
Cracking tip - cheers!
yes, its the best solution of a big problem
thanks
Very Smart.
Thanks for the information😊
RIP that one ant
Thank you so much for this.
yes, its the best solution of a big problem
thanks
Poor lizards
Thanks
Nice 😀👍
Genius!
What a fantastic idea Jag. Many thanks for your organic simple solution. for my small lemon tree. As I was applying the tape the poor ants became confused and troubled. Oh dear.
Doesn't work in area where it rains quite a bit... The glue portion of the tape loses its grip after every rain
sukh mul wonder if you can make a little umbrella above the tape to keep it from getting wet. Like a plastic ring making a small lip
How about the ants stack on the top ,can they still eat the fruit?
Blow them off with a blower.
Thanks. But question do you need to remove the tape at anytime?
Yes see the top of comments
nice idea. I will try it!
Works Well ! Thank you Jack, had serious problems with Fire Ants on our plum tree. Fire Ants will take over the tree to harvest aphids. They will eat aphids byproducts but not kill many of them . The ants also apparently damage the blossoms and prevent the tree from having fruit. Again, many thanks Jack.
Ants don’t eat aphids they farm them to eat their poop. Ants will actually put the aphids right on the tree lol
Im afraid this is t good for your tree. It may block the lateral expansion and disrupt the sap flow, especially if you put several layers because it will be more resistant and less extensibe.
This is only to be used when fruit are ripening, then take it off. Not for long term use.
Oh okay, I was very tired yesterday and didnt pay attention to that. Now that I rewatch the video, it's obvious that its not for a long term use. Very smart hack tho!
Thank you and thank you for pointing it out :) I added it to the description and Pinned comment so that people do not try to use this method for long term.
Hey Jag, I live in South East of England. I have a wooly aphids infestation on my apple tree. Removed the curly infested leaves, tried Provanto ultimate bug killer and several applications of fairy soap, cayenne pepper, garlic and neem oil but in vain. The wooly aphids are back the following day. Its my Dad's favourite tree so can't get rid of it... please can you help get rid of these wooly aphids, which are spreading to my rose plants and getting out of control :(
Stopping the ants from going up the tree will stop them from farming the aphids and moving them around. See if a nursery near you sells dormant ladybugs. The ladybugs if released properly will eat all the aphids but you have to get rid of your ants.
@@edithreardon6042 Thanks so much for your suggestion. Ordered some Ant killing powder. God bless and Happy Gardening !!
I've got a apple tree that was already in my garden when I moved in. I noticed the ants on the tree but as I don't like apples, the ants are welcome to feast on it. I've seen birds eating the ants so it's all good. 😁
Has anyone ever put duct tape on a tree sticky side down? I had a tree limb fall on a peach tree sapling and we grabbed the first thing we could find to tape it back together. It worked, but now it’s time to remove it to let the tree grow. How do i remove the tape without destroying the phloem?
IN FEW DAYS YOU HAVE TO PUT ANOTHER LAYER OF TAPE......I WILL MAKE A VIDEO THAT IS CHEAPER
you should eat ants using your tounge!
This did really work no more ants but now how to get rid of the insect's?
spray neem oil onto your plant :)
