    Dude !
    Got more than I bargained for with your video, admittedly skip/watched parts, but
    took on some of the prudent comments about setting up back-up communication
    modes. Like many things, waiting til you NEED it, may be too late ! Cheers! B--)

    A old black man that i knew 20 years ago, he used his cutting torch to cut them open, after he drained them real good that is, i never saw him actually do that but he gave me his leftover scraps, the steel casing and I could tell he used a cutting torch. But he kept the copper out of them and gave us the rest. I never wanted to fool with doing that, didn't have anywhere to get rid of the oil and stuff that came out of them. I had a cop get onto me about cutting up AC's and window AC's and some of them still had Freon in them and I'd cut a line and that stuff would blow off, i guess a neighbor saw me do that and called the law on me, so I tried to watch myself from then on, if you know what I mean? I know I missed out on a lot of good copper and stuff but what can you do. I haven't scrapped in a long time, I'm an old man now and don't drive, so there's that. Oh well, I just watch all you scrapping fellars on UA-cam. Anyways, I just seen your channel pop up, I was watching Big Country, up in Ontario. Anywho, keep on scrapping I'll be watching!

      Yes. I have used the cutting torch, and plasma cutter, to open them up, but it tends to get too hot inside and melt the plastic strips that insulate the copper from the steel, then the copper is very hard to get out and, makes it hard to get the plastic off the copper wire, so the cutting disk works best for me, In February I will be turning 69. in this heat it makes me want to give up the scrapping and stay inside. but the little extra from the scrap and what UA-cam pays helps with the bills. so will have to keep the scrapping going for another few years, until things are paid off. Big Country has a good channel, he also has another channel Big Red Bullon, where he melts copper, brass, and aluminum

      @hensleyshobbies-doug7761 11 місяців тому

      @@Okiescrapper - yeah I kinda figured that heat would probably do something inside of the compressors but I didn't know for sure how that old black man was cutting them open, just knew by the looks of the cases, looked like he used a torch, I suppose anyways, he wouldn't tell us everything he did, he just called us whenever he had scrap for us to pickup, heck he never even took us back in his garage, so I figured he had a few secrets that he didn't want anyone knowing or something. Yeah me and my scrapping partner we never tried cutting them open, we just saved them up, enough to really take in to the scrapyard. And yes sir, that Xtra money sure helped out quite a bit, especially when you had some money in your pocket everyday, and especially when you only got one little measley check a month. I sure miss it, it was great exercise too, really, especially out hustling scrap everyday, street scrapping and all that. But the last 10 years I haven't been able to do much of anything like that, I'm 64 but been put through the ringer, all my life and it's taking it's toll on my body, got arthritis and nerve pain all over, the lower back is pretty much gone too, course the doctor's took me out from behind the wheel of any vehicle, that was about 15 years ago or a little more, so I'm not allowed to drive in KY and Ohio. What a huge bummer too! Anyways, take care buddy, keep on doing what you do and I'll be watching! 👍👍🤘✌️

    the chisel does work good on freshly opened units ,but if you have some that have been sitting out for a 2 months or longer, its easier to split it in half with a long thin axe head and then remove copper..

    • @Okiescrapper
      @Okiescrapper  Рік тому +1

      yes. find a yard that you can trust, some yards are very impersonal you can't hardly talk to any of them, others yards you can talk to all the workers and they will help teach you what you need to know. and those yards are still good to do business with even if they pay a little less
