    Ram Dass - Here and Now - Ep. 93 - The Thinking Mind: beherenownetwo...
    ================
    Ram Dass illuminates the trap that many of us fall into as we grow up - which is the idea that we are our thoughts.
    The more accurate view would be, “I am and I think.” Thinking is a power that we have - “Intellect is a great servant but a lousy master.”Intellect is only one way of knowing the world, but the intuitive mind and heart is a more profound way of “knowing” the universe than the analytic intellectual linear mind. The more you think inwardly and self-reflect, the more you become an object to yourself until the whole universe is made up of objects.
    “We can come back to the control we feel with our thinking minds. The problem is we are reinforcing our own sense of separateness, and in that world of separateness, you’re constantly locking doors, to protect something, and feeling drier and drier in the process. You’re turning off the life juice, the flow of the universe, just in order to protect something… Once you recognize who you thought you were, you say ‘yeah’, there’s my thinking mind and it defines all this, but behind it all here I am, just am.”
    We need to change the relative power positions of “intellect” and “intuition” so that we develop greater balance and freedom to grow on the spiritual path.

      Nothing hits like Ram Dass. Mckenna opened me up to new possibilities, Watts informed and taught me a great deal. But Ram Dass truly enlightens me. ❤❤

    Occaisionally I find myself arguing with you and/or Ram Dass at the beginning.
    Then, I forget my argument about halfway through completely.
    Another time I will watch another random lecture.
    And if last time I disagreed with you, Rahgu Markus, Ram Dass seems to set me straight.
    But, if I was arguing with Ram Dass, your preamble the next time will....
    You will do the same thing, but in a very, shall we say "consistently, obscurely edify" my previous self from the first argument.
    It is like I seek Ram Dass to hear a celebrity pianist perform, but over the last five or so years, I come to expect Rahgu Markus (forgive spelling errors, please) to become the conduit through whom the wisdom echos.
    And before I would say I follow Alan Watts and Ram Dass, and I secretly prefer their rhetorical styles.
    But these days I am welcomed home by Rahgu Markus and Jack Kornfield.
    Quite strange, but very appreciated.

    Don't let Markus knock nonduality. I made it to the final doorway after 2 weeks of 4-6 hrs a night of "direct path" meditation. Love arises out of this condition because you see everything as God. And anger, fear, sadness, nothing arises again. Focusing on your breath will take you 100 years (if ever). do the direct path

      Buddy, you are here, but there's no doorway after two weeks of anything

      @psychologicalsuccess3476 Eckhart tolle had a sudden enlightenment, it can happen at anytime. I did make it to the final moments of ego death but i backed away because i wasn't ready. I didn't even know i was doing an intense meditation. All i knew was that it was a peaceful respite from my mind. I always refer to it as my "accidental enlightenment." I held onto the feeling of "I" for no less than 70 hours in a 2 weeks span. Time completely stopped, thoughts stopped, everything looked like a mushroom trip. You could have given me psychedelics and it would have done absolutely nothing. The more energy you put into something, the more it grows, so you can imagine what 70 hrs focusing on one thing in such a short span does. Focus on the feeling of "I" for 5 hours a day for 2 weeks and you'll see exactly what I mean. 5 hr minimum.
