Larrin is brilliant! Love seeing him and his passion for metallurgy being featured on the show, he and his father have done so much for the knifemaking industry!
Love listening to Larrin talk about steel and history of steels. Definatly a very knowledgeable person who has been a great boon to the knife industry. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
@@eskee1 Off the top of my head in Magnacut I’ve got a Winterblade Factor, a Hinderer Eklipse, a rebladed Demko AD20, a Demko AD22, a Tactile knife co Maverick, Tactile Bexar, and a tactile Rockwall. Not the majority of my collection but probably a plurality.
A magnacut based Damascus product that could compete with Damasteel would really be the coolest thing. It would be a great way for Dr.Thomas to come full circle to his youth with his father being a Damascus maker
There are gems in every industry who push things forward and Larrin is undoubtedly one of them in the knife industry. Also I’m glad he talked a little bit about the technical side of magnacut because that’s what is so special about it and as he said, a game changer. I see alot of people claiming magnacut is all hype but it’s essentially a proof of concept that opens the door to more “stainless tool steels”. Just imagine a stainless 10v or k390 equivalent!
The Magna Carta of Magnacut, really cool to hear everything he had to say, that's why I love this chann,it's not only knives,it's every thing about the knives, the creators, the steel, heat treatment, quenching, just everything about them, and Magnacut steel is the best version of blades I've found,I put it through what most wouldn't,and it's definitely something that's changed the industry, forever it gets others thinking and I can appreciate this information that creates knowledge to move forward in the beast of blades,in case you didn't know,I'ma blade freak too!,thanks for the vid,see ya on the next one!
It's so fun to listen to knife designers and metallurgists brain-dump on us plebs about stuff we enjoy so much! I have yet to acquire a knife with a blade using MC but I'm on the hunt 😁 Thanks Larrin for being willing to get in front of a camera to tell us more about you and TC for interviewing him! Great stuff! 👍
Thanks TC for sharing that visit with Larrin! He is one of the stars of the knife community. I just finished reading his new book The Story of Knife Steel--highly recommended! I look forward to seeing what he does with Buck Knives!
WOW, that is so much interesting knowledge for my brain to acquire!!! TC and Larrin are totally mesmerizing on their knowledge of the industry!! I've been to school and also proud to hear Buck Knives are going to get involved!! Thanks again TC SMKW!! WOW!!
Larrin, you're an absolute legend in the knife community. You've made knife collecting so much more exciting. Magnacut is awesome. Keen to get my hands on your next steel invention ;)
My deka in magnacut is my absolute fav light weight edc beater. I say beater in the best possible way. Awesome geeting to see and hear someone from this side of community.
A great interview. Seems like knife steel has been the source of competition in the EDC community so it good to see the back story on Magnacut. I believe, like most things, no steel is perfect for every application. It's a delicate balancing act of properties to achieve a stated goal with any side benefits discovered along the way. I look forward to Larrin's next steel.
Love this type of innovation, and the response by knife makers. Got a Spyderco Native 5 Salt a few weeks ago, and just ordered a RMJ Tactical Unmei in Magnacut.
Thrilling I'm a retired computer geek, but ANYTHING highly technical does appeal to my general interests. THANKS, TC for having this amazing gentleman on! And thanks, Larrin for your presentation that was informative as well as completely without pretense! I've thouroughly enjoyed my early evening as a result! Kudos BOTH... RRC😀👍❗️
I'm really excited for Larrin's other steels. Niomax is one that has appeared on his website; I have the impression it's something like AEB-L with added niobium, which should be an ultra-tough stainless.
One of my favorite things about MagnaCut is how broadly available it is on so many knives. I am a sweaty guy who works in outdoor temps so my knives get soaked. Other very stainless steels were very niche and only used by a few makers so my selection was limited. MagnaCut has changed that.
Sweet steel ❤. I was thinking it would have been hilarious of Larrin rolled in with the red friendly neighborhood sweater . That was a good story . So is smkw going to do the knfiemaker series with the knife maker stories . I think the boss said something about it when yall did a pocket check vid .
Just ordered a set of 6 kitchen knives made of magnacut. Hopefully he can make a blade that is 10 in toughness and 10 in hardness and 10 in corrosion resistance, then i will order another set and quit. For now, magnacut will stay with me forever ❤
Most of the great ideas were accidents. This was very educational, Still new to knives, but videos like this really teach me a lot about knives and metals. Hope to be back in the store by the end of the summer.
I really hope we get a Paramilitary 2 and Para 3 in Magnacut soon. I lost my knife at a damn airport and need a new one soon. But I really want Magnacut
Hah! Magnacut is nothing compared to my Ultra Porn Steel 666. Problem is just that I can't sell knives made out of Ups666. Too dangerous. Everytime someone drops one of my knives, the planet gets split. Last time I handed one to somebody was letting a T-Rex compare it to his teeth and you know what happened to dinosaurs!
His father created Stainless Damascus........ No Wonder he made Magnacut. Welp......I m gonna call it. His son is gonna create a real light saber.......😳😎😂🤣
Obviously I am not an metal dude, My question is, is the mountain seen on the wall behind you a real one? It kinda reminds me of looking from downtown Pigeon Forge looking down the road towards Gatlinburg? I know totally of base! An yes I am a knife lover! Thanks!
Larrin is brilliant! Love seeing him and his passion for metallurgy being featured on the show, he and his father have done so much for the knifemaking industry!
Both of them are awesome and have an open invite to crash the store anytime!
Larrin is a treasure trove of information for all fans of steel and blades.
💯
You’re my hero, Larrin…Magnacut is absolutely the new king of steels and my personal favorite. Congratulations!
Thanks for watching Brett!
Dr Thomas is an absolute asset to the knife community
And one of the nicest guys! He and his family have a open invite to crash the store anytime
Magnacut and s90v are my two favorite steels. I could listen to Larrin talk for hours. Such a good dude!
Thanks for watching and we could listen to him for hours as well 👍
Larrin’s huge passion for metallurgy really shines here.
💯
Love listening to Larrin talk about steel and history of steels. Definatly a very knowledgeable person who has been a great boon to the knife industry. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Thanks for watching Todd!
Magnacut is already the most common steel in my knife collection. I love it.
Sweet!
U must have some money then or a small knife collection...

That has a certain symmetry to it

Dr. Thomas is not only someone who is pushing the industry because it is his job but he has a love for that few we have met surpass
Awesome interview! How good are engineers!
Dr Thomas has a open invite to crash the store anytime!
Im glad to hear that there are more steels in the works.
We can't wait to see what Dr. Thomas comes up with next!

We are all geeks for something and most of us here are knife nerds to some degree or another
Thanks TC for sharing that visit with Larrin! He is one of the stars of the knife community. I just finished reading his new book The Story of Knife Steel--highly recommended! I look forward to seeing what he does with Buck Knives!
Definitely a star but nice as he can be as well!
Larrin I have Dawson Knives Huntsman in Magna-Cut, and Bark River BRAVO1 LT in Magna-Cut and it is perfect steel. Thank you so much. 🔥🇨🇿

TC and Larrin are totally mesmerizing on their knowledge of the industry!! I've been to school and also proud to hear Buck Knives are going to get involved!! Thanks again TC SMKW!! WOW!!
Thanks for watching Galen!
I was surprised when Buck came out with the 110 in magnacut but it seems like a lot of knife companies are coming out with it now days.
If one has the means to use the best materials available then it would be a shame not to I think. 🔪
I was excited to see the Kershaw Leek in Magnacut. I got one and I’m excited to see if it’s worth the hype.
We love when great knife companies us awesome materials
This was an awesome interview! Love my MagnaCut knives. Thanks for posting this
Dr. Thomas was great to have in house and he has an open invite to the store any time!
awesome story.
Thanks for watching!

Good job TC. So many knife YTbers can’t stay quiet to let their guests speak.

Dr. Larrin is a great ambassador of the knife world!
Thanks for sharing!👊🏻Very interesting to hear how this all unfolded for him and magnacut is a great steel
We love Magnacut!

Great interview! Was wondering what Larrin thought the optimal HRC would be for his MagnaCut?
Magnacut is one of my favorite blade steels
💯
thank u gentlemen
Thank you for watching!
Love this type of innovation, and the response by knife makers. Got a Spyderco Native 5 Salt a few weeks ago, and just ordered a RMJ Tactical Unmei in Magnacut.
The Salt is great and RMJ makes some sweet blades!
Thrilling

Thanks for watching RRC!
I loved this insight into Dr. Thomas and Magnacut 😊
🙌🙌🙌
Absolute legend and super nice guy. I love knife steel nerds videos.

Hello SMKW, A "cut above" just about says it all, huh? Thanks for the good work and vids!! Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 🙏😇👊
Thanks for watching Randy! We always gotta stay sharp
Very informative interview! Thank you SMKWs
Thanks for watching!
Never got deep into steels but this was very cool and I feel a deep dive down the rabbit hole coming! 😊
It is awesome to get into and with knifesteelnerds.com easy to understand

MagnaCut has changed the game!
Great interview. Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching Craig!
Great stuff! Got his new book, very interesting and informative
We need to pick up a copy for ourselves!

We hope you like it as much as we do!
Awesome interview
Thank you!
Really enjoyed knowing about magnacut
Thanks for watching William M!
Just ordered a set of 6 kitchen knives made of magnacut. Hopefully he can make a blade that is 10 in toughness and 10 in hardness and 10 in corrosion resistance, then i will order another set and quit. For now, magnacut will stay with me forever ❤
Nice!
Pretty awesome of him to wear a Hershey Park T.
Larrin is awesome!
Awesome brother 👌

Excellent video!
Thanks for watching Randy!
A great story.
Thanks for watching!
Most of the great ideas were accidents. This was very educational, Still new to knives, but videos like this really teach me a lot about knives and metals. Hope to be back in the store by the end of the summer.
Safe travles!
I love cruwear! Well magna cut get as sharp as cruwear?
Take your time and it can be as sharp as any other!
You will need diamond abrasives to properly sharpen Magnacut. But for cruwear that should be the same.
So what’s magnacut close to in edge retention?
He rates Magnacut, S35vn, Cruwear, 4v and D2 all the same at 5 out of 10.
Is he the guy with the fun videos about blade steel science?
Indeed!
good video yall
Thank you!
I really hope we get a Paramilitary 2 and Para 3 in Magnacut soon. I lost my knife at a damn airport and need a new one soon. But I really want Magnacut
That would be super sweet!
Legend!
💯
Greetings TC, Can't wait to see a Buck 110 in magnacut...
Buck did I think a small run of 110 in magnacut maybe a 1000 of them
That would be sweet!
Interesting
Thanks for watching Doug!
Saw the thumbnail and thought the exclusive marilla was back for a minute😅
There is always hope of another run!
The riddle of steel 🤔
Conan! What is best in life?
TYFYS
Buck 110 in magnacut yeah buddy!!
That would be awesome!
Old Larren looks like he been eatin good.
Got that magnacut money.
I’m jk haha I love the steel ❤️
A buck collaboration in a few months? Aww yeahh
We can't wait!
I love the Marilla but they treated it so soft
Case trapper in magnacut?😂
That would kick booty!
Now if we could just get companies to heat treat it properly. Everything is to soft right now. Except Montana Knife Co.
Thanks for watching
Hah! Magnacut is nothing compared to my Ultra Porn Steel 666. Problem is just that I can't sell knives made out of Ups666. Too dangerous. Super steels baahhh whatever! And then this happened.
His father created Stainless Damascus........
No Wonder he made Magnacut.
Welp......I m gonna call it.
His son is gonna create a real light saber.......😳😎😂🤣
...we can only hope!
I've spent over 12 months trying to get anything in magnacut in the uk. Perhaps one day.....
There is more and more coming out each day!
Obviously I am not an metal dude, My question is, is the mountain seen on the wall behind you a real one? It kinda reminds me of looking from downtown Pigeon Forge looking down the road towards Gatlinburg? I know totally of base! An yes I am a knife lover! Thanks!
It is exactly inspired by that
*WILD AS HELL TO KNOW 1 DUDE INVENTED IT AND THIS IS HIM 8-○*
And so young! We can't wait to see what else Dr Thomas comes up with next
Dr. Larrin Thomas book "The Story of Knife Steel" is a really interesting read.
