The quark (a type of cream cheese) is in the dough, it replaces yeast or baking powder as a leavening agent _and_ gives the pastry a unique flavor and moistness. Oh, and I forgot: You are such a lovely -couple- family!!!
It was interesting, especially being the first time trying eierpunsch-better than eggnog in our opinion. We had other snacks along the way too! Thanks for watching!
The big statue of "Roland" in Bremen is just one of many "Rolands" through-out Germany (mostly north Germany), which always stand in front of the old City Halls. Sometimes you have to look for this figure, for example on the old City Hall of Hannover....he is far up in a brick dekoration on the market side of the old facade. The historical figure was Hruotland, who in 778 fought the Moslems together with Karl der Große (Charlemagne) on the border between Spain and France. He represents the protection of civil rights in the cities....similar to "Marianne" in France. This figure is also popular in Sicily, where he is called "Orlando" and is famous for his role in a Marionette play, where he fights against the Moslems. This puppet figure is a popular souvenir, which tourists buy in Sicily. Your Tours of the different Christmas Markets are most interesting...but your little boy will have to wait until next year to try all of the specialties, his parents enjoy. Merry Christmas
So interesting to visit different Christmas markets 😊
