Thanks for the video. Bowie is beautiful! Boas have a much slower digestion than other snakes, particularly because they prefer cooler temps. If you’re feeding a small or medium rat you should be feeding once a month or at most every three weeks. Feeding adults once/week is going to result in obesity, early death, and unsuccessful breeding. Also, sustained temps of over 85 will cause neurological damage. This is a nocturnal species that does not experience those high temps of the Amazon during the day. I suggest someone looking for care advice join one of the reputable Facebook groups on the subject. Otherwise you’ve got some good info in here.
Great info! I have a BRB juvenile that I've raised since he was a tiny hatchling. Another tip for babies is to provide a humid hide (I used a Tupperware container with damp sphagnum moss.) This ensured he had a super humid spot in case his tub wasn't humid enough. He used it a lot while shedding. I'm currently planning his adult enclosure, which will be a bioactive 4x2x2 pvc.
What were you keeping your BRB in while it was a baby? Just wondering how yours was set up. I’m new at this and trying to learn before I get my first BRB baby. Thank you
Thank you so much for the video! My boyfriend and I just became snake parents after we bought a rainbow boa 🥰🥰! Our baby is super chill and loves being handled
This is very useful! I'm thinking about getting a Brazilian rainbow boa and I've been doing as much research as possible on them. They're my dream snake and hopefully I'll have one in the future
Great video kiddo always love them keep up the great videos please you always have very good information and I have been watching them from the first one so videos kiddo thanks
jep couldn't agree more. My little girl loves to stay in the cool spots and spends the whole day burried. And then at the night she comes out and even tries to climb the heat lamp 😂(when its out and cold obviosly) 🤷🏻♂️ So funny little snakes 🙈
getting my brb in a couple weeks and I'm super excited! He's already 2 years old though lol. Another thing is I added a background to my glass enclosure (gorilla glue with a bunch of eco-earth and sphagnum moss on it, and climbing stuff like cork) and the humidity, without being sprayed, has been at 86% so I think it's gonna work alright c:
I recently (3 weeks) bought a Brazilian rainbow boa and he's never missed a meal. I've been going crazy trying to keep humidity up. I've tried different lights, substrates, etc. Hopefully his first shed today was full. I'm waiting to check on him. Love your videos!
I’m waiting til March for my baby to get shipped to me, I have her enclosure set up already too:) I put a humid hide to hopefully give more access to humidity when shedding, maybe add one to yours too?
Just got my rainbow boa earlier today after work, fell in love with the little one when I was checking on all of the snakes at the shop, immediately seemed to trust me even though it’s just a baby lol, working on figuring out the gender soon. Looks to be a boy but I’ll double check
Just bought my first BRB she's a female hatchling she's getting delivered tomorrow, I've also got a baby ball python which I've had since June. I also want a super dwarf reticulated python but am waiting a year or so for 1 of them, may be longer, I need a bigger house first hahah
I must have gotten lucky as well. My boy doesn't strike at all. He's very ca and chill. He doesn't even strike at his food. Just opens and swallows. So weird. But I will take it. Can't wait til my baby is full grown one day. Btw... Bowie is looking beautiful ❤️
I am consuming as much info on BRB because I want to get one so bad I’m pretty good at husbandry but I always like to have perfect to near perfect husbandry for my animals, and your videos are great
So here I've got the option of wooden vivariums or glass. Wood is usually considered a lesser choice for high humidity because it can damage the wood over time. Though I figure if I were to waterproof/seal it, it could work out and retain humidity a bit better than a glass terrarium with mesh top. The zen habitats you use look like they're part wood. Not sure if they are and if it just looks like wood. Would you think a wooden vivarium would work for this, were I to seal it appropriately?
This is so helpful! In the future I definitely want a snake. I'm struggling with the idea of getting a snake I really want (BRB) and getting one that is more beginner friendly. I feel like getting the one I really want will make me more engaged... but I'm also not entirely confident in with getting a more fragile snake as my first snake. Anyways great video!
I would suggest getting a tank and set it up as if there was a BRB in it. Turn on all the heat and light etc and run it for 1/2 weeks. You can experiment with different ways to increase humidity in that time. If you are hitting all the right parameters and you feel confident after that, go ahead and get a BRB! if you aren’t so sure, maybe get an easier snake to go in the tank like a corn snake or ball python. (Change the tank around as needed obviously)
Hey i wanna ask, what are your opinions on using humidity boxes for rainbow boa's as an extra way to keep them hydrated? Do you think it will be a good idea to use?
Amazing and really helpful video! Your snake is so adorable! Just one question here. You said that you would recommend short handling times. So around 5 minutes, 15 minutes?
Awesome video. I almost got a pair of baby Colombian rainbow boas at the last reptile show I was at. But, it's just not a good time for me to take on a species like that. They were super sweet and docile though. One of these days...
I am thinking of get a Brazilian Rainbow Boa and was wondering if I should start them in a final size enclosure or start small and work up to the final size?
Hey Trish i have a question with vertical space for my ball python. Im building a custom enclosure for my ball bython and corn snake. Its a single unit divided in two. Due to the size of my room i couldnt make it tall or wide as i wished, so i made it long. The dimensions are 4'6"long, 17"deep, 30"tall (15" for each snake) Since it isnt really tall, do u think i should focus a lot on trying to give them plenty of vertical climbing space or make the horizontal space enriched as possible? Thank you for any help but if not no worries! Your videos are great! 😁
My first question for any potential reptile owner of any species, is what is the humidity range of your apartment/reptile room throughout the year. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, humidity might not be such an issue, my apt humidity ranges from mid 50s in winter to mid 70s in summer, so it's pretty easy to maintain my Rainbow's humidity higher than that. I've noticed that there's a definite correlation between where a herper lives, and how difficult they think high humidity animals are. For me, I'd be way more concerned keeping something like a uromastyx.
I just got one! So scared for the baby phase with such high humidity not new to reptiles but new to this high of humidity and sensitivity to it it has me scareddddd😭
I’m sure you will do just fine! Just be sure to also have a dry period during the day. You don’t want everything sopping wet 247 😅 a fogging system will help!
Hey question, How long can a rainbow boa (assuming subadult or adult here) be kept out of its humidity safely? For vet visits (especially when complications present) I'm worried about dehydration complications. I'm also considering being able to bring them to Herpetology events so I'm curious If i should prep humidity options for the snake if any of these come up.
Hello friends! Please always have a thermostat on your heaters set to no higher than 83F for your BRB. Anything higher than 85F for extended periods of time can be fatal to BRBs, especially young snakes. Otherwise, beautiful snake and great video!
Looking fwd. To bowie s new enclosure in March can't wait to see ..I can't get enough of seeing bowie..what a great snake xo

Ceramic heat lamps work so nicely.
Ive just rescued an 11 year old female brb she's 6ft and stunning we've called her bella ❤️

I think Bowie is the reason I want a rainbow boa so bad! I can’t have one at the moment though 😕
She does that to people. 😅 I hope you can get one some day!
Thank u so much.

Wow Tricia these are some really awesome tips I love it.😃👍
Thank you so much!!!
@@reptiliangarden You're very welcome Tricia. Much love.
Yay I get to see the rainbow boa. So cool. Great video as always. Keep up the great work. Maybe we can see peaches. One day. 🐍🐍🐢🦎
Yes! And specific tortoise video you’d like to see?
@@reptiliangarden maybe foods and care and environment. And maybe different kinds of substrate. I will leave it up to you. 🐢🐢🐢🐢Red foot tortoise.

@@avatarno1defender Thank you! That's such a good idea, never would have thought of it myself! I will definitely try that.
Don’t buy something you don’t really want, you will be stuck which it for about 10-20 Years or end up rehoming it
@@freelittlegirl1086 Good point. Thanks!
I have one and she's great now, but they are so nippy at first. My hands were destroyed every day until she got comfortable.

That’s what I’m going to do with one it’s would be really good just in case They feel too dry they can go somewhere where it is really humid
Amazing and really helpful video! Your snake is so adorable!

I don’t have a rainbow boa but now I have ideas to keep humidity in my skinks tank

I feel in love with rainbow boas, I want one so much. I have other reptiles but I have never owned a snake would u recommend them for a beginner?
I wouldn’t because of their tricky humidity requirement. If you do the research and understand how to care for them, it is possible!
I own 50 species of Reptiles, mostly Treemonitors and Corucia. I also have different rainbowboas, and they are pretty easy to keep.
My first question for any potential reptile owner of any species, is what is the humidity range of your apartment/reptile room throughout the year. Question of the day if you had the opportunity to get a green anaconda to save the species if its was technically endangered would you
I would lol
With all that pressure. Yes! Lol 😂
