    I was proud of the boys in the bowl game. They played their hearts out. Never has a loss felt more like a win in my opinion. Finding out about the new hire got me stoked! I’ve been watching Jimmy coach the jackrabbits for a while, in fact his team was one game away from facing Montana State in the natty this season before losing to NDSU. I think he is an exceptional hire and I can’t wait to see his coaching and recruiting here at WSU.

      When you start praising your favorite team for "moral victories", then you know the program is in trouble. Also, I honestly don't know what you're talking about when you say "recruiting". THERE IS NO RECRUITING ANYMORE in college football. It's MONEY. Not recruiting. It's MONEY that gets you players. There is no recruiting, especially at places like WSU. If WSU coaches find a good player, like Cam Ward or John Mateer, and they pour effort into developing him, and he actually becomes a good player...GUESS WHAT???? He'll hit the transfer portal, and he'll be gone - just like Cam Ward. Just like John Mateer. WSU football is, basically, a developmental league for bigger, richer programs. In fact, bigger programs no longer have to look for a "diamond in the rough" player. They'll just let teams like WSU find the "diamond in the rough", then they'll let WSU do all of the cutting and the polishing of that diamond. Then, when that diamond finally emerges, then teams like UW, Oklahoma, USC, Alabama, Miami, Georgia, Colorado, Texas, will just take that diamond away from WSU by offering that player more money than WSU can afford. Wake up, pal. Unless there are major rule changes to college football, WSU will forever be a minor program that serves as a farm system/developmental program for the big boys.

    I was very happy with the performance. Kyle Williams balled out and the team showed fight. The defense was well under sized and they really didn’t stand a chance, but it was super cool to see them fight and they did have a few series where they stepped up. Hopefully more guys pull out of the portal like Tre did.

      Yep Kyle Williams is a great player. WSU stole him from UNLV. Just like how Oklahoma stole Mateer from WSU.

      Wazzu didn’t steal him. He came to WSU. Sure glad he did.

    As an SDSU fan, it’s a bittersweet day but that’s the nature of the beast. I’m happy for Coach Rogers; this move will benefit his family, and I’m confident he’ll continue to bring success wherever he goes. Coach Rogers is straight business, focus, commitment, and discipline. It’s been an honor to watch him lead in Brookings. I haven’t watched much of WSU since Mike Leach, but I hope he continues a winning tradition in Pullman. Go Jacks! Go Cougs!

    Great hire. Hope he brings some defensive backs with him. Thankfully, ours are all leaving. It will be refreshing to have a coach that can improve the linebackers, cb’s and safeties.
    More of a tough football guy than a media kiss-ass like Dickert.
    Go Cougs.

      Moku and Gushiken both got heart, and I love their effort. But they just cannot hold down the secondary. Not enough speed. Not enough size. Moku's initial hit is often solid. But he just slides off, and the ball carrier just runs right through him. Simply not enough size and strength. And I felt sorry for cornerback, Stephen Hall. He really tried his best, but Syracuse just, relentlessly and mercilessly, attacked him all game long, and he was hung out to dry. Very hard to watch a player get singled out and picked on like that. No safety help.
      It's been a long, long time since WSU had a big safety that enforced their secondary. Deon Bucchanon was the last that I can remember. Shalom Luani was pretty good as well, but Bucchanon was a monster hitter.

    • @PalouseGrinder
      @PalouseGrinder 3 дні тому

      @ - Totally agree. Nothing against the players, they were just too small back there. When opposing teams see Gushiken on a tight end, it is an automatic completion. Moku has good reads, he just can’t wrap up and they keep going. Durant looked good in the Spring and ended up having a bad year at safety.
      I liked Jaden Hicks at the Safety spot. Enough size for the NFL = enough size for the Cougs.
      I am hoping Hunter Haines stays and gets a shot as well as a kid that got a shot at the goal line and attacked the ball carrier ( 28 freshman ? ) in the bowl game.
      Time for a whole new batch of bigger kids in the defensive backfield.

    • @PalouseGrinder
      @PalouseGrinder 3 дні тому

      @@user-sg8kq7ii3y - Hicks was 6’3” 215. Perfect safety size. We weren’t even close to that this year.

    @danieldracobly8382 3 дні тому

    The only problem I have with the hire is the salary amount. Going from 300k to 1.6-1.8 is a huge bump. We couldn't have got him for 1.2-1.4 and put more into the ast. coach pool? 200k difference could be enough for Christian Smith. Food for thought

    Jimmy was a great coach for SDSU. Still some questions as a head coach though. He won a natty with our legendary coaches players and then lost the next year.

      There’s the potential he brings a handful of their best guys. Potentially both their QB & WR, a RB, 2 DT. Let’s hope he can retain a good amount of WSU’s current roster

    Having a defensive coach as HC is a very good thing as long as we dont sacrifice the offense. Happy to have some stability in the program. Make sure we keep Nick Edwards

      I’m excited to see what he can do for WSU. The record speaks for itself but then you add in the loyalty shown as SDSU to stay and build something special plus the roster retention and he might be just what we need. Will be a bummer to not be as explosive through the air but I don’t know how much further we realistically could have gone as a program with the same offensive philosophy so open to trying something different as Jason Puckett has suggested a couple times on his podcast.

    Number 1, I highly doubt Coach Vigen interviewed for the job. Number 2, Rodgers would not be a better hire. I personally believe Coach Vigen knew about the financial mess at WSU, and made him not interested. Until you get a better president of that school, things are going to go downhill.

    Lets talk actual facts here... Rogers built his short career on the coattails of HC John Stigelmier, who literally handed Jimmy a NC title winning team with the best players on a silver platter. Rogers had the keys and drove to the second NC, but he didn't built that house. Stiggy did. All of this is super annoying for SDSU fans because Stig literally retired to keep Rogers at SDSU. I get money at play, but this in fact kills SDSU for a decade we don't have the resources to build like FBS teams. Losing the seniors was hard enough, giving us a young team. But this HC move is also pushing many kids to the portal who were considering returning to SDSU. Like Rogers leaving is one thing but taking the staff, probably some players to WSU is further destroying this team. Rogers is a good coach im not knocking that, but his stats are padded..

    Jimmie Rodgers inherited a top FCS roster with a bunch of kids that had extra years of Covid year eligibility. And then they didn’t have a bunch of players that took the NIL deals and left the program , so his rosters were stacked for two years with people that he didn’t recruit. Guess we will see What he can do on the table hasn’t been set for him.

    • @dangroom8695
