Whoever had the idea to cast Tony Todd as Venom deserves every raise possible. Simply majestic!
@@jamesbok8385 yesterday I saw a video with every actor who voiced Venom. Respect to them, and some of them were quite good. But Todd was on another level. Couldn't have fit the character any better.
My favorite part of the game was Miles' arc with Martin Li aka Mr Negative, how he spends so much of the game wanting to hunt him down and, in the end while he doesn't forgive him, he does let go of his anger and together they save Peter. Unlocking the Anti-Venom suit in the process. That was the best part of Miles' side of the story in my opinion.
I didn't think miles hatred of Lee was warranted because it was never addressed in his solo game, and even so that should have been the plot of his solo game instead. It would have made more sense to have aaron/prowler be one of kravens targets and miles protecting him. Prowler is even one of the "prey" kravens henchmen show him but he never goes after him
What makes this game amazing for me is just how much Insomniac utilized haptic feedback with the controller. When Peter gets the symbiote, the controller speaker spoke in Venom’s voice and said “Peter”. That was such a cool, immersive moment.
Got to meet Yuri at Weebcon 2022. Such a great and humble guy. I got him to sign my poster, writing "when you help someone, you help everyone". He was nice enough to write "I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye" on the bottom right. Also got Nadji Jeter to write "look at little goblin jr" I'll post a photo of it sometime.
Yuri Lowenthal is a brilliant voice actor. I only know 3 of his characters but he plays them so well; - the nameless prince in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The Two Thrones (surprisingly he wasn't in Warrior Within), and The Forgotten Sands. - Sasuke Uchiha in Naruto - and of course, Peter Parker in the Spider-man games.
I really wish Chris had talked about the part where you look for a missing inhaler. Something I never considered for a Spider-Man game, but it really took my breath away and made me think about inhalers in real life.

I will say this about game length. At this point in my life, I'm super busy and tend to avoid games with crazy long run times. So this game didn't feel to short at all, also I'm hoping for dlc to come down the line. It fits my schedule perfectly.
It took me about 25-30 hours to complete it with main missions and a good amount of side missions. I agree some games with shorter run time aren't too bad with a busy life and other games to play
I honestly tire of the belief that games need to have a long runtime. As long as the game isn't asking for 70 with 6 hours on offer, I'm interested. I mostly avoid games like AC Vahalla simply because I know their gameplay loop doesn't justify their super long runtime
This game had the same effect on me, I didn't want to stop playing and there were a few nights where I couldn't sleep because my mind was racing thinking about the game lol
just finished the game myself, WOW. This THE BEST spiderman I've ever played since the PS4. Total Non-Stop Action, fighting and combat with higher steaks, and an emotional compelling story and characters. Honestly about the game main story completion length that everyone seems to complain about, it doesn't feel short at all, it feels as long as the first PS4 game. I actually looked it up the length is about almost as long as the first game, plus the DLC 3 part story mode for this game is coming out soon anyway. A+ 98.4%
The best Spiderman you've ever played since the PS4? Have there been many Spiderman games released that I'm not aware of or are you just saying you prefer this to Miles Morales?
I love that one rant of jjj when he said i change suits too much, makes sense when theres black goo all over and I'm helping a dude set up prom with another dude 😂
This is the reason I'm bummed out that Miles will be the new lead in SM3 while Peter "retires." I LOVED their interactions and scenes with one another. Not having them together is a major L imo. Oh well, I hope his interactions with Silk will be as good in SM3 :(
@@ThwipThwipBoomdude he's not retiring clearly they're going to have him come back for 3 possibly for a rematch with Otto in some way. Or the More obvious factor with Norman working on The G serum and becoming the green goblin, he obviously blames Spider-Man for what happened to Harry. All that said I wouldn't mind miles taking center stage he's really become One of my favorite versions of the character and I don't mind him being the Main Spider-Man for awhile as long as they pay that plot thread off. Pete deserves a break imo. Hell given his current comic run I'm completely fine with what they did here.
Heeeeellll NO! Miles is weak af and always has been. Putting him in the center of attention is purely a transparent reaction to the spiderverse movies making money. They’re doing Peter dirty by following a trend that isn’t actually that great. Idk why every medium is so desperate to get rid of Peter all of the sudden
Too bad the symbiote storyline devolves into a boring taking over the world storyline and ends up being mixed Venom was nowhere as menacing as was promoted. 3-5 hours more of story would've helped a lot
I also loved this game and didn’t want it to end haha even after 100%’ing it. I haven’t played it, but the buzz around Alan Wake 2 being an incredible art house type cinema horror game makes me think it would be right up Chris’s alley
There are probably 50 games this year that he would love that he has not even played because this year has been stacked with amazing games, it’s pretty insane to be honest.
AW2 is FANTASTIC. Is appealed to me on every level and has climbed it's way into my top 5 of all time already. It's a deeply layered story that still has me thinking about it's mysteries and where it's characters will go beyond the ending.
What annoys me is that people are complaining about the length of this game. In today's day, we are luckily to get a story focused polished game, spidey 2 delivered on everything. We need to support studios/games like these
The story was amazing, but some gameplay aspects definitely took a step backwards from the first Spider-Man game. If we are only talking about the story, then I do agree that it is stupid that people disagree. However, most are talking about the gameplay with their criticisms.
In my opinion the only problem this game has depends on how you handle the side missions once you are connected to the symbiote. Peter’s voice will trade back and forth between tormented for story dialogue and standard so long as for side dialogue. If they didn’t have the time to record the extra dialogue variations (and completely understandable if they didn’t) then I think it would’ve made more sense to lock Peter out of some of the side content until he was free of the symbiote. Other than that absolutely a 10/10 experience for me.
'I wish when I was bored I could go over to coney Island and ride a rollercoaster as spiderman' is definitely one of the sentences I would never have expected anyone to say about this game😂
I remember when I got the black suit from spider man 3, my jaw dropped. I smiled so big and immediately switched to that suit. Haven’t changed it since. This is definitely my game of the year!
My favorite spiderman incarnation and performance is from the spectacular spiderman cartoon. Felt like that show was just spiderman concentrate, timeless and quintessential spiderman stories and takes on the characters. Wish it had lasted longer.
Insomniac nailed it the 3rd time and made me so excited for Wolverine. At this point I just want them to keep making Marvel games. Hopefully sometime in the future this game gets some DLC exapnsions like Spider-Man 2018.
There was a time where I took your reviews seriously but as times gone on I just can't anymore. a game that is so obviously trying to subvert Spider-man in the same was Star Wars has with its own characters. I think this is the final nail in the coffin. So long and good luck Chris.
We’re definitely getting some kind of DLC involving the Flame cult. And after seeing Venom in this game, I’m looking forward to a certain boss fight at the end of that campaign.
@@ZombieInc661I would say DLC as Carnage is too big to share the limelight with Goblin and Ock in the 3rd game. Maybe they’ll do a bigger Carnage based DLC rather than 3 smaller ones, that’d be cool.
I'm a fairly regular gamer and I thought Spider-man 2 was just long enough. One of my issues with gamers, and I say this as a long time gamer, is that they never seem to be happy with what they've got and I think this is part of the reason why they think Spider-man 2 is too short. I'm also of the view that if a story driven game is going to be long it needs to be set in a large map, but the problem with building New York for a game like Spider-man is that it has to be detailed to be immersive, and those details are going to have an impact on the PS5's performance which means Insomniac can't afford to shove all of New York into the game (this is why New York was smaller on the PS4 games). Therefore it has to be smaller, leaving less room for the animation data, audio data, graphical data, and even NPC data needed to tell the story they want to tell and create the missions they want to create. Also, as great as Spider-man is he never came across as the kind of travelling character you see in story driven games that take a long time to complete; games like the Red Dead Redemption games, the Horizon games, or even something like Ōkami (which I highly recommend you check out, Chris, if you get the chance. It's a 2006 game but it got remastered and released on a bunch of different platforms).
I disagree, I feel like a story this dense needed more time and having it be so short sacrificed the impact of the game. When Peter was with the symbiote, I remember being caught off guard at how fast everything was going, there was no buildup and he just went from normal Peter to “scary monster asshole” in like 3 story missions. If they had just added about 4 hours worth of story to build up his relationship with MJ, his psychological change with the symbiote and his grief and guilt with aunt Mae, this would’ve been a basically perfect game.
Okami is a masterpiece and I don't use that word lightly or unless I mean it...I love Spiderman 2 more than any other spiderman game it's a near masterpiece for me but not quite the level of Okami ..that game took "Gaming Is Art" to another world for me and it's very rarely been met or topped before or since I first played it back in 2006..I never played the remaster or Wii version though
@@togp3403I'm with u on that man I caught that feeling too and it's one of the worse feelings to have on gaming..the feeling that something important isnt earned but even with that issue and the story being a good 4 or 5 hours too short I still can't front..its still my favorite Spiderman game

Hi, Chris, I've also been playing this game for one to two hours after work on the evenings before going to sleep, and just like you I put that controller down with a smile on my face and the next day i cant wait to get home to play some more. No other game gets my dopamine pumping quite like it. Its a shame people are running through this in 15-20 hours; how you play a game makes a world of a difference.
I love watching your game reviews. I'm a school teacher that loves video games since his childhood, but sometimes I don't have much time to play either. You're game reviews are honest regarding your enjoyment and don't carry the console wars toxicity that I see sometimes and I love to see that.
Because the writing is amazing. The story is amazing that's why it's nominated for best narrative at the Game Awards. Every critics praised it as it got 91 on Metacritic. They are right. Majority rules. Conduct a poll
I Platinumed the game in 22 hours. I don't care how you pace it out, that's too short. It took me 40 hours to Platinum the first one. I loved the story just like the first one, the problem is lack of side missions. The first game had way more things to do outside the main story. I really wanted to keep swinging and gliding around but those randomly generated crimes get old really fast. I wish they had something similar to the backpacks in the first game. They gave you a reason to explore every inch of the city and each one was its own little Easter egg or world building backstory.
You will see so much bullshit said about this great game on Twitter but then luckily you have people like Chris who actually knows how good this game is both story and gameplay. This was easily my personal game of the year hands down!
There are people on twitter/online who are just negative about everything. I much prefer it when people talk about things they like and are positive than constantly moaning.
@@jamesatkinsonjait’s alright to have good criticism as that helps creatives grow Echo chambers where you only spew the same thing only produce more of the same thing, be it negative or positive. Imo the game suffers from being to safe. It’s more of the same but slightly improved, which is nice but again, safe. Hopefully come the third game they take more liberties. For example, them deciding to kill Spider-Man’s main villains offscreen using Kraven…a villain we barely get to fight if only twice(talking about Kraven). Why not have had US play as Kraven the same way we played as Venom. Would’ve given more credence to his persona as a “hunter” but half the time you’re going around beating up his goons who are doing the hunting for him 😅 Of course some people would say “wow a game called Spider-Man where you barley play as Spider-Man” but tbh I don’t mind it. I don’t need to be playing as the MC all the time to enjoy the game , but some folk actually tried to make that argument regarding the MJ and Hailey missions. Even tho they only total to like 4 out of the 30+ missions that mostly include you playing as Spider-Man 🙃 There are other valid criticisms I have but that is one that I found was quite interesting and probably would’ve added so much more to the story/experience had they spent time developing it.
I just finished this last night, what a ride. I had a couple fall through world and crashes, but otherwise amazing gameplay and a fun new story using characters I know. The teases at the end, I cannot wait for some new content.
Masterpiece indeed! I LOVED this game. It's awesome to have venom and kraven adaptations where even if the story wasn't completely unpredictable, I didn't know everything about it right from the start. It felt fresh, exciting and quite effective in the character department. How everyone affected by the symbiote ended up revealing their most secret and biggest fears *chef's kiss*. Oh boy, I'm holding myself from jumping back in and playing it again but I will do it soon.
Having read the 90's McFarlane stint, and hundreds of other Spiderman comics, they did an amazing job. Loved what they did bringing so many characters into one game, without cheaping out on any back story.
I agree, this game had everything I wanted from Spider-Man symbiote story while still having an incredible Kraven the Hunter. It’s legit like Spider-Man three, but they were able to juggle all the super villains. Not to mention the side quests and side content. The story about Peter and miles in this game is just fucking better. It feels like web of shadows mix with ultimate PS5 edition, I loved every second
This is one of my favorite games this year, however there were a lot of things that disappointed me too I think story isn't as impactful or well-paced as the original game, although it is still a lot of fun and by no means bad But the return of segments where you don't actually play a Spider-Man still suck, and some of the side missions are terrible, especially a handful of Miles' But most of all, this game just has way too many bugs for a high-profile Sony exclusive. Over the course of 32 hours I experienced five crashes, five instances of all of the background noise in New York City disappearing, one instance of being soft locked for mission progression because a button prompt wouldn't register, one instance where enemies completely frozen place and we're unresponsive to combat, multiple instances of enemies just clipping through the ground or other weird objects, one instance of my character model completely disappearing only to be replaced by a little gray cube, one instance of skyscrapers failing to render and instead just leaving water towers and vents floating in the sky, multiple instances of random crimes disappearing or arriving to crimes only to find no enemies present, post game a glitch that made it so that the only crimes that would appear at all were last act symbiote crimes until I hit 100% completion, and even now post game I got a lot of audio glitches where Spider-Man is constantly yelling out that symbiotes are appearing even when there aren't any, and then often repeating to yell the same phrase right after he finishes. Despite all of this I had a blast with it and I beat it in like 4 days, I'm excited to finally play new game plus but also disappointed that it's not just included in the game to begin with, the post game is kind of disappointing But the story was a ton of fun, the spectacle and set pieces are bigger in this game, switching between both Spider-Men is enjoyable, and the web wings make traversal a lot more interesting, they don't feel like they just totally replace websling like I feared Right now I'd give this game like an eight, if they can patch things up and add some more content I would probably bump that up to like an 8.5 or a 9
@@AntiWokeBloke Yeah I don't know why they insist on having the MJ segments. They're definitely better this time around but it's still not like it's some kind of really polished stealth system, and then it just kind of makes her look ridiculously overpowered because she is one shot in these enemies that super strength enhanced Spider-Men have to use multiple punches and kicks to put down I thought both venom and Kraven we're really cool but neither of them really get enough screen time. Kraven kills the majority of the sinister six off screen. Once venom shows up the game seems to kind of rush through like multiple different venom and symbiote storylines in the matter of just the last couple hours. He's intimidating, but you never get that sense of buildup that he would become one of Spider-Man's most fearsome foes For me the best part is the middle of the game that just shows the relationship between Peter and Harry and the downfall to the corruption of the symbiote suit. That's where I think the best writing in the game is. I think Miles has a good character arc as well even if he clearly can't quite be the focal point of this story I just think that first game works a lot better making you emotionally invested since you are working alongside Otto from the very start, And you just know and dread his eventual downfall. Between the climax of him and Peter as well as how they went for that absolute stunner of a narrative decision with Aunt May... I just definitely think the first game is a better Spider-Man story as far as really embodying everything that the character is about That being said, I do still enjoy Spider-Man 2 as a story, it's more bombastic and action-packed and sometimes that's just fine. It's a thrill ride and it's thrilling to go on, I was still always eagerly anticipating what would happen next, I just wish it did a little bit more in both a good way and a bad way
@@adamdavis1737 Yh I agree with all of this i wonder if insomniac will do an MJ game where we play as her and we take on Carnage And Other villains with the stun gun, it really took me out of it the danger wasn’t there for me they didn’t even need Spider-Man for venom just give everyone in New York a stun gun and they could of won

For me, something that brought it down was the MJ moments. Like, they tried so hard to make her cool that it just made the villains seem lame "we are elite hunters trained to take on spiderman and other superhumans" and then they get repeatedly taken out by a standard woman with a taser and some martial arts training. Like if you wanted a cool female lead, black cat or silver sable would have been way more fun to play and way more believable. But instead I now cant see the hunters as anything other than really incompetent and really lucky instead of menacing. And whats worse is, people were open about hating those moments in the first game, and they doubled down without doing anything to make them more fun? wtf?
I’m right there with you on this review Chris. This is the perfect length game. I work 50 hours a week and have an 18 month old. My only free time is playing this game 1-2 hours during the weekdays. I also enjoy the Spider-Man 3 black suit. I do all my Peter Parker side quests using this suit.
You mentioned that one of your favourite things about video games is that you don't know how they're made. This is kind of interesting because Insomniac is one of those game companies that doesn't use third party game engines or assets which basically means they built everything you see in game (though with the spidey suits they might've recoded and possibly even reanimated some of Sony's assets that were used in the films). Really the only time I've known them to borrow from other devs was in their PS1 and PS2 days when they used to get help from Naughty Dog and vice versa (in Crash Bandicoot 3 there was a hidden demo for Spyro 1 and vice versa for Spyro 1. Also the Ratchet & Clank and Jak games used shared code and would often reference in each other via hidden easter eggs in their games.)

Spider-Man 2 might be my favorite game of this year. Smiles and yelling "THEY DID WHAT" from the first minute. If you ever get around to it, I cannot recommend Alan Wake 2 enough. Very lynchian horror and extremely cool storytelling.
I just got the anti venom suit and it's absolutely awesome, and the fact that li's power is actually mixed with the Symbiote power is actually a very cool idea
So glad you loved this game as much as the rest of us. If you ever get some time, I would highly recommend the 2 most recent God of War games if you haven’t played them already, I think you would love them too.
I love the combat in this. It reminds me of old school God of War. (Ps2) Just mopping up hand full of enemies at a time, with multiple moves, and finishers. Great mechanics.
I haven't 100%-ed any of the games, but these are the comprehensive Spider-Man experiences. Very cinematic-feeling in spots & if they were Spidey movies, they'd be the best. I think Spider-Man 2 does actually crawl to the top because being able to swing/traverse to the boroughs of Queens & Brooklyn. Getting to play as Venom for a bit was so cool. And yeah, Kraven was the best villain in the game (sorry, but I doubt the movie will do the character justice like video game did). I'm patiently waiting for Spider-Man 3 because we know the Goblin is coming...
If these games were movies they wouldn’t be the best by any measure. The dialogue and plot are not up to par for live action translation, they work cuz we take non-live action stuff less seriously. These are fun in the medium they’re in, but they would fail hard as movies
I think the side content is extremely lack luster and I experienced a ton of bugs, but I do think the main story was really good. I gave it like a 7/10 in my review I think, just way too buggy
Its hardly a masterpiece 😅 But you probably never played Baldurs Gate 3 or Alan Wake 2. As a filmmaker, I highly recommend you play it! Narrative will blow you away.
I think people are overrating the game when it comes to the story, even though I really do like it Story gets a 7/10, because everything leading up to Venom is very well told but once you hit the introduction of Venom, the story falls off quite a bit and Venom is devolved into a "I'm going to take over the world" villain and idk if they blew their budget on the Sandman,Lizard and Kraven fights, but the final Venom boss fight wasn't anywhere near as good as I was expecting. Kraven was a much better and well rounded villain than Venom, who felt like he and his section were rushed and he was nowhere near as menacing as was promoted
Agree. It’s probably a 7.5 or 8 out of 10. It has a lot of great feel and moments but lacks greatly compared to Spider-Man PS4. I kept saying this game has endless Assassin Creed-like repetitive quests and boring villain ai as I was playing. If you had criticisms of the MCU sameness and laziness of movies, Sony got real lazy on this. Too bad because Spidey is my favorite hero. This is just my opinion. If you like it good for you.
@@Hypersense-gv2ve I dont care about your opinion bro, they played it way too safe. The gamplay its the best. Swinging its amazing. The story is bad, little to no kraven. 3:14 i understand it fully for making Harry into Venom in this game. However i understand fans of Eddie Brock being underwhelmed because Eddie Brock Venom has just gotten one of the greatest runs in a comic in recent years. Hopefully it can play out more in a potential Venom spinoff
This game was truly amazing and it was so fun switching between gliding and web slinging through the city. The way that that venom was utilized was amazing too and I loved Insomniac's take on the symbiote story. Plus the throwbacks to the Ultimate Spider-Man game and Web of Shadows were cool too. This game was like a celebration of Spider-Man in general! This has been a great year to be a Spider-Man fan!
I think the first game is a lot better. I like that they made venom Harry. Makes more sense than Eddie Brock. I think Kraven was a bit wasted and having him kill off a bunch of villains off screen is lame The gameplay is much improved on already great gameplay But the side content is atrocious lol. I was hoping they’d improve the side quests from the first game, but no. They’re maybe worse
My criticisms of the game are that they kill Spider-Man’s villains offscreen. They should’ve had you play as Kraven when killing these villains the same way you got a taste of playing as Venom(hope they bring that back in future games) And I think the MJ missions, while nice and easy were too easy for the plot considering her actual fighting prowess Vs the trained hunters. The Symbiotes I can somewhat understand and be okay with, trained hunters is a bit of a stretch. Also I wish Kraven showed up more in the side missions or at random times. I wish in general there were more random city events Vs the same mini-POPUp missions The story overall and some of the side missions and Easteregg stuff had me more emotionally invested in the characters and that’s what insomniac did right. I think they could make a bigger game if they allow more time. I will also say this game was riddled with a few bugs the first few weeks. After I beat the game I had nothing but Symbiote pop-up missions for like 2 weeks. Only as the of the last 3 days have j gotten a a mix of pop up missions. I will say the web slinging is the best thing. No other Spider-Man game comes close

A big raise at that. his voice fit venom so well.
@@jamesbok8385 yesterday I saw a video with every actor who voiced Venom. Respect to them, and some of them were quite good. But Todd was on another level. Couldn't have fit the character any better.
@ 100% agreed! He was briliant.
Can you imagine that convo though. "what if we get Tony Todd. Holy shit what if we get Tony Todd."
@laverdadescatolica5do you mean you're ready to forgive Hollywood for dragon ball evolution. Maybe in another 20 years for me.
Yeah I thought that was a clever use of the negative aspect inverting the colors of the symbiote suit to make the anti venom suit
WTF, I didn't notice that! Have to replay the entire thing now. Twice even.
Nice to see how passionate you are about this game and specifically Spider-Man in general. Great review!
Got to meet Yuri at Weebcon 2022. Such a great and humble guy. I got him to sign my poster, writing "when you help someone, you help everyone".
He was nice enough to write "I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye" on the bottom right. Also got Nadji Jeter to write "look at little goblin jr"
I'll post a photo of it sometime.
The tiny white box glitch alone deserves a 10/10
Video is sponsored by SONY, that's your first hint.
In the Spectacular Spider-Man they had their cake and ate it too; having Eddie Brock’s Venom start out as a brother figure to Peter.
The Howard Pidgey side mission was so sad.
Yuri Lowenthal is a brilliant voice actor. I only know 3 of his characters but he plays them so well;
- the nameless prince in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The Two Thrones (surprisingly he wasn't in Warrior Within), and The Forgotten Sands.
- Sasuke Uchiha in Naruto
- and of course, Peter Parker in the Spider-man games.
I heard his voice before in Ben 10 and Naruto, but I really started to take note of him as a voice actor after I played Persona 4.
Don't you find it sad that given the way the world is now, he'll never get to play a middle-easterner again?
Can't believe the guy is in his 50's now and he still sounds like a teenager.
I really wish Chris had talked about the part where you look for a missing inhaler. Something I never considered for a Spider-Man game, but it really took my breath away and made me think about inhalers in real life.

@@Pete-vz5uj I really wish Chris talked about the part where you play as Miles Morales only ever helping citizens that are part of his own demographic.
@@Brownaut1993 if the game is solid then I don't mind the short run time but again people do want their $70 worth

just finished the game myself, WOW.

Peter telling Harry to pop some more pills was brutal as hell lmfao had me gasped
The clips of the game at 30fps look so cinematic and amazing.
My favorite thing about this game is easily the brother dynamic with Pete and Miles, it's just wholesome as hell man.
This is the reason I'm bummed out that Miles will be the new lead in SM3 while Peter "retires." I LOVED their interactions and scenes with one another. Not having them together is a major L imo. Oh well, I hope his interactions with Silk will be as good in SM3 :(
I feel like Peter and Harry had more of a brother dynamic than Peter and Miles. Peter and Miles felt like teacher and student (kinda literally).
@@ThwipThwipBoomdude he's not retiring clearly they're going to have him come back for 3 possibly for a rematch with Otto in some way.

Playing as Venom and fighting Kraven was one of my fave moments in games this year.
Venom munching on his head was awesome
Too bad the symbiote storyline devolves into a boring taking over the world storyline and ends up being mixed
Venom was nowhere as menacing as was promoted.
@@BreadCatMarcus I really wish I could play it but I don’t do horror myself aside from some exceptions, and Alan Wake 2 sounds really scary

The story was amazing, but some gameplay aspects definitely took a step backwards from the first Spider-Man game. If we are only talking about the story, then I do agree that it is stupid that people disagree. However, most are talking about the gameplay with their criticisms.
@@hasher4mvp All games & movies have their haters. This game wasn't safe from those who love to throw around the term "woke".
Honestly the slowed down frame rate for the Miles Spiderverse suit is so fuckin rad.
Same!
Completely agree
'I wish when I was bored I could go over to coney Island and ride a rollercoaster as spiderman' is definitely one of the sentences I would never have expected anyone to say about this game😂
I remember when I got the black suit from spider man 3, my jaw dropped. I smiled so big and immediately switched to that suit. Haven’t changed it since. This is definitely my game of the year!

Insomniac nailed it the 3rd time and made me so excited for Wolverine. At this point I just want them to keep making Marvel games. Hopefully sometime in the future this game gets some DLC exapnsions like Spider-Man 2018.
glad it lives up to the legacy
There was a time where I took your reviews seriously but as times gone on I just can't anymore. a game that is so obviously trying to subvert Spider-man in the same was Star Wars has with its own characters. I think this is the final nail in the coffin. So long and good luck Chris.
We’re definitely getting some kind of DLC involving the Flame cult. And after seeing Venom in this game, I’m looking forward to a certain boss fight at the end of that campaign.

@ZombieInc661 nah its definitely DLC. The next game will be based on the end credit cut scene
@@ZombieInc661It's probably gonna be continued in the DLC since they did the same thing with Black Cat's missions in the first game.

Not a fan of the strongly suggested theme of Miles taking over.
I still preferred the original ps4 release with the original guys face as Spiderman

Too long if anything, shorter the better
You will see so much bullshit said about this great game on Twitter but then luckily you have people like Chris who actually knows how good this game is both story and gameplay. This was easily my personal game of the year hands down!
There are people on twitter/online who are just negative about everything. I much prefer it when people talk about things they like and are positive than constantly moaning.
@@jamesatkinsonjait’s alright to have good criticism as that helps creatives grow
Echo chambers where you only spew the same thing only produce more of the same thing, be it negative or positive.
Would’ve given more credence to his persona as a “hunter” but half the time you’re going around beating up his goons who are doing the hunting for him 😅
Of course some people would say “wow a game called Spider-Man where you barley play as Spider-Man” but tbh I don’t mind it. I don’t need to be playing as the MC all the time to enjoy the game , but some folk actually tried to make that argument regarding the MJ and Hailey missions. Even tho they only total to like 4 out of the 30+ missions that mostly include you playing as Spider-Man 🙃
There are other valid criticisms I have but that is one that I found was quite interesting and probably would’ve added so much more to the story/experience had they spent time developing it.
This is Insomniac’s Magnum Opus 💯💯💯
I just finished this last night, what a ride. I had a couple fall through world and crashes, but otherwise amazing gameplay and a fun new story using characters I know. The teases at the end, I cannot wait for some new content.
Been waiting for Chris's review over this since it was announced back in 2021
Masterpiece indeed!
It feels like web of shadows mix with ultimate PS5 edition, I loved every second
my favorite spidey comic "The Longest Yard"
This is one of my favorite games this year, however there were a lot of things that disappointed me too
I think story isn't as impactful or well-paced as the original game, although it is still a lot of fun and by no means bad
But the return of segments where you don't actually play a Spider-Man still suck, and some of the side missions are terrible, especially a handful of Miles'
But most of all, this game just has way too many bugs for a high-profile Sony exclusive.
Despite all of this I had a blast with it and I beat it in like 4 days, I'm excited to finally play new game plus but also disappointed that it's not just included in the game to begin with, the post game is kind of disappointing
But the story was a ton of fun, the spectacle and set pieces are bigger in this game, switching between both Spider-Men is enjoyable, and the web wings make traversal a lot more interesting, they don't feel like they just totally replace websling like I feared
Right now I'd give this game like an eight, if they can patch things up and add some more content I would probably bump that up to like an 8.5 or a 9
I agree solid but the first was quite better for me you felt he stakes on this it’s like I could beat venom with a stun gun and Mjs motor cycle
@@AntiWokeBloke Yeah I don't know why they insist on having the MJ segments. They're definitely better this time around but it's still not like it's some kind of really polished stealth system, and then it just kind of makes her look ridiculously overpowered because she is one shot in these enemies that super strength enhanced Spider-Men have to use multiple punches and kicks to put down
I thought both venom and Kraven we're really cool but neither of them really get enough screen time. Kraven kills the majority of the sinister six off screen. Once venom shows up the game seems to kind of rush through like multiple different venom and symbiote storylines in the matter of just the last couple hours. He's intimidating, but you never get that sense of buildup that he would become one of Spider-Man's most fearsome foes
For me the best part is the middle of the game that just shows the relationship between Peter and Harry and the downfall to the corruption of the symbiote suit. That's where I think the best writing in the game is. I think Miles has a good character arc as well even if he clearly can't quite be the focal point of this story
I just think that first game works a lot better making you emotionally invested since you are working alongside Otto from the very start, And you just know and dread his eventual downfall. Between the climax of him and Peter as well as how they went for that absolute stunner of a narrative decision with Aunt May... I just definitely think the first game is a better Spider-Man story as far as really embodying everything that the character is about
That being said, I do still enjoy Spider-Man 2 as a story, it's more bombastic and action-packed and sometimes that's just fine.
@@adamdavis1737 when we played as the death chick did they really go oh guys people are gonna love this it’s a Spider-Man game and then we do illegal graffiti over other graffiti very odd Spider-Man 3 will be worse imo you’ll be silk and miles most the game and Spider-Man will probably show up at the end
I always wore the Raimi suit in the first game, and so being able to wear the Raimi black suit after getting the symbiote was basically perfect.👌🏽

Did you play Jedi Survivor?
Have you ever thought about doing a play through series of videos. Maybe even a live stream play through.
I think the side content is extremely lack luster and I experienced a ton of bugs, but I do think the main story was really good. I gave it like a 7/10 in my review I think, just way too buggy
I love the game, but what you say is true. More side content would be great, and polishing bugs too, hopefully with updates the bugs are fixed
Yuri has the best voice. When i think about Spider-Man i hear his voice
Being able to play as Venom was a pleasant surprise. Venom has always been my favorite character and they got him so right in this game.
Man Sony Wolverine.. Can't wait. I loved all 3 spiderman games
The side missions were some of the best parts of the game. I agree though everything about this game is what I love about spidey.
There's definitely a few things you can nit pick and wish they added or did differently, but honestly the only thing wrong with it is the length
Its hardly a masterpiece 😅
But you probably never played Baldurs Gate 3 or Alan Wake 2.
As a filmmaker, I highly recommend you play it! Narrative will blow you away.
I think people are overrating the game when it comes to the story, even though I really do like it
Story gets a 7/10, because everything leading up to Venom is very well told but once you hit the introduction of Venom, the story falls off quite a bit and Venom is devolved into a "I'm going to take over the world" villain and idk if they blew their budget on the Sandman,Lizard and Kraven fights, but the final Venom boss fight wasn't anywhere near as good as I was expecting.
Kraven was a much better and well rounded villain than Venom, who felt like he and his section were rushed and he was nowhere near as menacing as was promoted
Far from a masterpiece bruh. Still a really good game
I'm pretty sure that was his opinion lmao plus you're wrong af in my opinion
@@Hypersense-gv2ve I dont care about your opinion bro, they played it way too safe. The gamplay its the best. Swinging its amazing. The story is bad, little to no kraven. Hes just a tool for the story to progress. The symbiote has no personality its just a parasite. Those are facts. You are probably a fanboy and not a fan that can do a decent critic.
@@maxivicentini805haha you're just wrong
@@maxivicentini805And you consider your comment as proper criticism?
You made zero arguments, just said two or three things you think are bad and that's it.
Did Sony give you the sound bar free?
I think the first game is a lot better. I like that they made venom Harry. Makes more sense than Eddie Brock. I think Kraven was a bit wasted and having him kill off a bunch of villains off screen is lame
The gameplay is much improved on already great gameplay
But the side content is atrocious lol. I was hoping they’d improve the side quests from the first game, but no. They’re maybe worse
Really?
I think specifically the sandman, Mysterio, and Wraith side content is all fantastic.
Nah, the second game is better in almost every conceivable way.
The side quests were some of my favorite parts. The howard mission, the chameleon reveal, the mysterious boss fight. All amazing
@@OrangeBox93 Eh, I’d say the overall story is more concise and tight in the first game, but everything else is better
My criticisms of the game are that they kill Spider-Man’s villains offscreen.
They should’ve had you play as Kraven when killing these villains the same way you got a taste of playing as Venom(hope they bring that back in future games)
And I think the MJ missions, while nice and easy were too easy for the plot considering her actual fighting prowess Vs the trained hunters. The Symbiotes I can somewhat understand and be okay with, trained hunters is a bit of a stretch.
Also I wish Kraven showed up more in the side missions or at random times. I wish in general there were more random city events Vs the same mini-POPUp missions
The story overall and some of the side missions and Easteregg stuff had me more emotionally invested in the characters and that’s what insomniac did right.
Except the previous two games right? They come close, they just don't have the Just Cause mechanic wing suit.
