This video is so soothing!!! I wish it was longer and not so brutally edited!

Oh, John... 🥺 Look at that face, lol... I get that he's a tragic character of sorts, but John the Baptist was also wild, fiery, and bold. I want to see him triumphant or being his rowdy self in some art pieces. To this point, everything's been sad or beheading-centric.
Anyway, this is lovely. I do wonder why John and Mary of all the figures that could stand near intimidating Jesus. And I love the gradients on the angel wings.

That is entirely possible, art historians are famously poor at math.

    Hi Catimify,
While your correction is logical, its likely incorrect in this case. This is indeed (most likely) a representation of John the Baptist. His identity is revealed by the hair shirt he wears. That detail isn't visible in the video but can be seen when you see the fresco in person.

@Smarthistory Viktor Lazarev is a an author I've been reading that claims that Cavallini was very innovative as he studied and understood like “no other painter in his period” the paleochristian mosaics in Rome and drew much inspiration from the ideas applied in sculpture by Nicola Piasano and Arnolfo di Cambio, while on the other hand Cimabue was part of a “conservative circle”, and thus he couldn't be the real innovator that the Renaissance need, despite being Giotto's master. Is this true?
    Thank you for your time!
