Why not use a single line and overlap the two materials then cut both vinyl layers in one shot creating a but joint. Wouldn't be the same as using tri-line then stripping them in 2 passes?
this is clearly a demonstration video. everyone does things their own way and every car has different dimensions. if you have a shop wrap your car, truck or suv you're already paying 2,000$ to 8,000$ for the basic color change so why not pay for the extra steps to make sure you have seamess wrap that will last long? lets see you post a video of similiar to this one and then a year later to see how your butt joints look after heat and weather.
Whats up with the red line at the end of the video? I thought it was going to be some kind of very thin tri-stripe with a seamless look but it just looked like double stick tape and just left the red part on the top.
Do NOT do it the way that is shown in this video. It uses too much material, and it faces the seem the wrong direction. By wrapping the middle of the hood a second time, place the the edge of the material facing the front and side of the car. That means when you view the car, you see the edge of the overlap, making the seam more noticeable. It also means that when you drive your car, to air is constantly blowing against the edge, which increases the likelihood of the edge lifting. It isn't much of a problem on a relatively flat panel, like this hood, but for a panel that actually needs a seam, it could be the difference between a quality job, and a failure.
I need help. I will wrap mi hood of my challenger but the vinyl is small, I bought it wrong cuz the measurements are 4ft x 7ft and that doesn’t cover enough and I need to make it in two pieces. I also bought the knifless tape but I’m afraid of doing it wrong, I dont want the cut line to be seen.
3M bought out a Canadian company called Knifeless, who were the initial compny who designed it to my knowledge, then proceded to ruin their really great product with their shit 3M knock off tape, trust me we sent back 5 rolls to 3M due to quaility control issues at their end
Actually us normal people can it just takes time and a few mistakes. I had never wrapped anything until I bought a motorcycle that looked like every one else's. Now It is getting 3 colors. Blue Black and a red pin stripe. I have had to make butt joints but I did it differently I laid 2 pieces of finish line tape down that is why I am here watching this video to see if maybe there is a better way.
Would have been a better production if you had A-heated the film over the tape before removal, B- NOT BOUGHT THE COMPANY WHO INVENTED THE TAPE IN THE FIRST PLACE !!! then ruined it with your cheap knock off replacement supply :-(
Most over rated product ever and endorsed by none other than that "useless TOOL" Justin wanna be Pate. Knifeless is a great asset for a full body commercial wrap but leaves a horrible serrated edge on a 1080 or Avery 1105 wrap that is far to often prone to premature failure.
Why wrap a car .it's not like half way painting a car.its black o the out side but it's white in the door jams inside of the trunk and hood .hell it's like covering you car with duct tape.
Well for starters, the car will be worth a lot less if it's not covered in original paint. The whole point of wrap is it's temporary. Want grey car? you got it. Want it to be blue next year? no worries, just pull the old off and put the blue on. All the while protecting the original paint that's underneath.
I own leflers it's a half million dollar a year business I could afford to but why put on something on your paint that if it gets a rip out have to redo a whole panel .if it's a scratch on paint sometimes it will buff out .I guess but hurt comments make people cry.fyi I netted 34 million in my life you I'm sure your still pushing shit to live.
Dwayne Lefler for someone who thinks so highly of themselves, you’re not giving yourself a good image with your bad grammar and spelling. Wouldn’t you rather have a rip in your vinyl than a scratch in your $500,000 car? As I said, it’s a non-destructive way of customising your car.
So what you’re saying is use pinstripes to cover the seam so it looks like you have a seamless job. Got it. 😉
I think you have to be a good artist to really get this right in a DIY.

For everyone wondering why they'd tell you to use this much material: They want you to buy this much material.

and now i just need an audi R8 to follow the instructions..
wish i had one but really i think its the shittiest supercar.
@Jamison Baylor scam

What's the point of the overly?
that's a lot of extra vinyl used though..
if you're drivving an R8, probably not that big of a deal.
When you charge what someone skilled enough to do this right charges, that doesn't matter.
It is well worth for not using the knife on the paint.
You get to buy more product from 3M this way!
this technique used by 3m to avoid stretching the wrap. as certain wrap gonna be effectted by stretch in a long run
What is the best company to use for gloss black wrap ??? Anyone?
Avery has a nice gloss black
Usually, i install the patch panel first and the rest on the top to avoid water or elements peels it.
Why on earth did he have to put a seam there, and why did he use so much material?
Minimal stretching is required to work through those contours.
Behold the Justin Pate school of "hack wraps 101". Not only a hack, but an over hyped "tool" to sell shit products
It’s not about the contours, it’s about the panel being too large to wrap in a single piece... as was explained in the intro
1080 3M ?
can It be use in mobiles
Hello
Can you give me the information for this work ??
Why can,t you wrap the Hood all at once instead of using butt joints?
U can. He says if your material/wrap is too short.
they bugging im not buying that much paper to do that.
What's the point of this?
I thought that butt joints shouldn't be used on wrap due to shrink
That is a sweet product!
Now thats innovative. 3M always does it.
3M rips everyone off. Always have, always will
3M bought out a Canadian company called Knifeless, who were the initial compny who designed it to my knowledge, then proceded to ruin their really great product with their shit 3M knock off tape, trust me we sent back 5 rolls to 3M due to quaility control issues at their end
Knifeless tech systems is the genius behind it.. 3m is just the money and deserves credit more like a city bus or Uber for your own ride
Ya, 3M buys innovative ideas that no one cares about and 1000x them to make them mainstream. Makes life easy.
Take a shot everytime he says "butt joint"
Bruh I would die
HOW DO YOU OPEN THE HOOD
shinnagain umm from the back?
shinnagain - They haven’t covered over any panel openings
I thought 3M was just a tape dispenser company.
Traducelo en espanol
ok.. but how do i pop my hood after?? lol,,,
Davefargo79 - why wouldn’t you be able to open it?
Thankyou
It's SEAMLESS! You just have to hide the seams lmao
This is like bedliner tape.
hand to hand combat gueutz
until next filter change
knifeless.. 1:02 is a banana or something?
maximus lmao
Do it with a cheap Chinese vinyl and I believe you...
Misread. Thought this would show me how to hide my joint butts. 420BLASEIT ERRDAY!!!!
This video should be renamed "how much material can we fool people into buying from us", courtesy of 3M. No thank you.
in 1 year you will see separation in the butt joint line. welcome to north end of states.
Thx :)

Clever.
Yea.. The normal person can't do this
Raider Of The Lost Fart my thoughts exactly plus I don't want to do it..lol

i too like to smoke butt joints.
What a waste of material
seriously? is this the way how 3M tries to sell more vinyl?
That's waste of material

See a real wrap here
ua-cam.com/video/HYk_Qqcy5So/v-deo.html
Only the tape is good but te vinyl is rubish 🖕🏻😶
So dirty result.

so how would you do it better?
If you can’t wrap a hood without using one piece you shouldn’t be wrapping
that hood is more then 60", if you can get vinyl larger i would love to know where cause i will start my orders
Waste of money
Holy shit he ruined that beautiful car finish.

U can’t afford it period.
