This is exactly what I was talking to My brother about the other day. Software is what sells hardware, not making pointless slightly amped-up hardware with the name pro for every mid cycle. This is getting silly.
The PS5 is already tapped for its power potential. this is not the Silicon Graphics chipset in the N64, the Emotion Engine in the PS2 or the Cell Processor in the PS3. Those console were "black boxes" that developers needed time to master. The PS5 is PC parts bin in a box, it was a known quantity since the dev kits came in. The devs have been pushing the PS5 for what it was worth since day one. The devs might be able to pull off a parlor trick or two but the console getting higher visual fidelity and performance over the generation is a phenomenon of the past.
@DrPeachGuyOh I know, about the Gamecube but most people clearly do not which is why I did not mention it. In terms of performance the Gamecube was more in league with the XBOX than the PS2 or Dreamcast. Moreover it had more modern architecture than the XBOX so it could handle environmental effects and particle effects better. However, the GC was hampered by having 21 MB less total RAM and mini-DVD format versus the XBOX.
If Sony is not willing to let a rip and make an actual Pro console with a Zen 4 processor at $800 to $900 MSRP, then do not bother. Who wants to play all the games you can play on a PS5 at the same 30 frames per second at a higher resolution with 30% more ray tracing and 10% less glitches on Spider-Man 3. If you want a Pro system just get a Core i9 and Geforce 4090 / 5090 combo and wait for the Sony releases.
It's just as pointless as upgrading to a new graphics card every year... and Nvidia is forcing people to upgrade just so you can be able to use frame generation, lol.
Its always primarily PC gamers that have issue with console upgrades. They never once upload videos about the the GPU variants and upgrades that comes out in spades.
This is why the only console I own for this Gen is the Switch, the Xbox Series X is also redundant, the PC has almost everything the XBSX has and more.

Here's why I see PS offering a PS5 Pro. To some extent, it's for the power enthusiasts. Playstation cannot lower the price of the base PS5 so how do you make it a worthwhile ROI return on investment? By offering new and improved hardware. Whether they like it or not, the PC market gets new and improved GPUs every year and the price of them keeps getting lower and lower and in order to compete with the price to performance ratio, they have to release new hardware to make that price compelling.
I think the big saving grace of the PS5 Pro is the PSSR Ai upscaling technique. Playstation knows it can't solely rely on AMD to make upscaling solutions that it needs it's own proprietary solution like Nvidia's DLSS. Then the conversation shifts from who has the most powerful hardware, resolution and frame rate to which platform handles the game better and looks better in general. If Playstation can find a solution for the frame rate issues, then it makes it much more appealing than raw specs power numbers on a sheet of paper. On paper, the Series X is the most powerful console yet the PS5 plays Ghostwire Tokyo 10 FPS more than the Xbox series X version despite 1 year late and Microsoft owning the studio in question...
The PS6 or whatever the next PlayStation is called is just around the corner. Why waste money on a hardware upgrade on a console that’ll be outdated and phased out when a new console is gonna be out in the next 2 years? Just like that X1X and PS4 pro shit. The PS5 came out under 3 years later so it was pointless to get them unless you never had a PS4 or Xbox One before that.

Lol the PS4 pro had the same CPU. What people don't realize is it all comes down to whether a game is GPU or CPU limited. Baldur 3 was CPU limited. We have no idea whether GTA 6 will be gpu or cpu limited
