    STORYLINE:
Caleb Landry Jones walked the red carpet in Venice Thursday along with the stars of writer/director Luc Besson's new canine-fueled action drama "DogMan."
The film, which had its world premiere at the festival, is in competition for the Golden Lion - the top prize at the Venice International Film Festival.
"DogMan" is about a child, bruised by life and abused by his violent father, who eventually finds salvation as an adult through the love of his dogs. It's Besson's first film since "Anna" in 2019, which starred Sasha Luss, Cillian Murphy and Helen Mirren.
Jones, who takes the lead role of Douglas, previously won the best actor prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his acclaimed performance in "Nitram." The Texan-born actor and musician has also starred in "X-Men: First Class," "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," and "Get Out."
Jones' co-stars Jonica (JoJo) T. Gibbs, Clemens Schick and Grace Palma also appeared on the red carpet, while Luc Besson posed with both his cast and his family.
"DogMan" also stars Marisa Berenson and Christopher Denham.
American filmmaker Damien Chazelle will serve as Jury President for the main competition in Venice, alongside Palestinian actor Saleh Bakri, New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion, French filmmaker and actor Mia Hansen-Løve, Italian filmmaker Gabriele Mainetti, Oscar-winning British-Irish filmmaker and playwright Martin McDonagh, Argentine filmmaker Santiago Mitre, US filmmaker Laura Poitras, and Taiwanese-Hong Kong actor and model Shu Qi.
The festival at the Venice Lido runs 30 August through 9 September 2023.
