I personally use a 6'-3" Cadence CR-7, Medium Light, Fast Action. I use a 1000 series spinning reel with 10lb braid and a short (4ft) 8lb mono leader, which is a perfect setup for this bait. If you go any lighter, you're likely to be missing out on a certain level of hook-setting power and will absolutely lose fish. You can launch this bait with a properly set up ML rig, so you can cover a lot of water, but that ML insures that needed hook-setting power on the long distance splash-down, which is where most of the hits come from. I hope that makes sense.
Hey Barry...Just wanted to let you know my fishing percentage has blown up using the Chartreuse ned rig and Zman craw. since day one ive been catching fish. I caught my personal best smallie saturday at 15 inches and backed it up with a 18 incher yesterday evening. Thanks for the advice .
Wow! That is awesome to hear, HHL!!! Add this lure to your arsenal and that covers another base for you. The Bluegill and Loon patterns are probably my favorites.
I’m doing a series where I ask people for a lure recommendation and try to catch a fish on that lure. What lure would you recommend? It has to be under 15 dollars though
You and I must be on the same wavelength or something. I just got back from catching my best peacock bass at 17.5 inches on a WP60. Fought like 5 a pound largie/smallie mix minus the jumps, but plenty of digging. I tied on the 60 on a whim after missing some on a Baby Torpedo. Might be the hooks.
NICE!!!! Congrats, man! We absolutely must be on the same wavelength, as I was emailing you about next week while you were posting this. These 60s are a pretty awesome bait. I have absolutely no argument with the 60's #6 hooks. I rarely get short-striked on them. But I ALWAYS change out the 75 and 90 hooks, as explained on that vid last week. It's all about the size. The 60 is a nice, small target that will hook up a hit nearly every time. By the way, I'm not a huge fan of the supplied Heddon hooks either, and replace them with the Berkley Fusion 19s, as well, whenever practical... as they generally don't use split-rings (good vid idea). If you snapped any photos of the Peacock, please send them. I'm looking at putting together a gallery in the Community tab. Congrats, again! We will talk soon.
@@eabaskervill The photos you sent are awesome! It must have been an absolute thrill to see those strikes! I have to figure out how I'm going to go about creating a space where people can just automatically share photos. Probably an IG or FB repository, or both. I'm more focused on growing the YT channel and getting over the gnarly YT hump. Getting up and over the sub and watch hour thresholds has been brutally tough. But by the looks of things, I'm hoping we are going to have a pretty decently set-up channel here by Fall, and it's fairly likely to take off once the YT algorithm sees things as being worth pushing outside the community. Thank you, Ed for being such a great supporter of the community. Again, congrats on the Peacocks... I'll be community tabbing soon!
What action rod are you using, could I use this for ultra light fishing? It looks good for the small bass near me.

@@BarryP Okay, thanks for the tips I'll have to get one soon!

@@BarryP You’re right about the 60. Small target, better hook up. And yes, those Heddon hooks are atrocious. I’ll send over some pics.

You SOB! Love that!
Most of that clip is a bit too racy for this channel. I used what I could apropos to what was going on. LOL
Amator.
Okay. Thanks for the watch and the comment.
