  • The Spanish Navy tall ship Juan Sebastian de Elcano docked at Port Pensacola for Fiesta Pensacola.
As a training ship, the Elcano’s main mission is to cultivate seamanship among the future officers of the Spanish Navy: The purpose of the training cruise on board the Elcano is to enhance and broaden Midshipmen education and nautical training. Elcano’s presence in foreign ports contributes to Spain’s foreign policy and develops Midshipmen leadership qualities both at sea and on land.
Built in 1927, the Elcano was named after the Spanish explorer who completed Ferdinand Magellan’s first-ever circumnavigation of the earth from 1519 to 1522. At 370 feet long, she is the third-largest tall ship in the world.

Gorgeous vessel, named after the first navigator to circumnavigate the globe. Contrary to popular belief - and thanks to the nefaroius Black Legend - Ferdinand Magellan did not complete the expedition and they even weren't ment to circumnavigate the globe, they just were tasked by the King of Spain to find a suitable route to the Indies which didn't include going around Africa, in order to respecto the Tordesillas Treaty

I've seen this beautiful ship many times in Norfolk during the Tall Ship Parade...

I didn't get on board for a tour because they kept changing the times, then the lines were too long. Otherwise I would've had some footage from on board the ship as well.
