It's crazy to see the GTX 980 Ti having no problems running these games, and it's truly one of the sleeper cards. My big brother had a huge soft spot for the GTX 980 Ti and the Maxwell architecture. He had a GTX 950 in 2015, then upgraded to a GTX 970 using EVGA's step-up program. In 2016, he bought his first GTX 980 Ti Classified for $300! At that time, he could have gone with the newly released GTX 1060 6GB, but the GTX 980 Ti had a greater advantage in 1080p gaming due to its wider 384-bit memory bus width. He thought it would age well in later years compared to the GTX 1060's smaller 192-bit memory bus width. Oh boy, he was RIGHT! The GTX 980 Ti was 25% ahead of the GTX 1060 in 1080p. He had a huge grin on his face and told me that I should've gone with a GTX 1070 instead. In 2017, he bought a rare EVGA GTX 980 Ti Kingpin. He adored that card and kept trucking through the 2020 COVID lockdown until it was retired and replaced with a water-cooled EVGA RTX 2080 Ti in 2022. In 2024, the aging GTX 980 Ti Kingpin was finally revived and is currently used in my external GPU enclosure, connected to my Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360. That card keeps finding its way back to life!
My GF has that exact GPU paired with an i7 7700k. Still works great, but at lower settings. I have been trying to get her to put together a new PC but she just cant part with that dinosaur, which makes sense, we mostly play Ark.
@@sheldonkupa9120 You can even still upgrade it to up to a 9900k. I made a tutorial on how to put a 9900k into a 100 or 200 series board. Works great. ; )

Never had a 980 Ti and i would just love to have one for my retro XP/7 rig. I really want to go overkill for XP era gaming and very high end for 7 era gaming. I'm already planning to replace the i5 4670 in my retro rig with a i7 4790 non K since the motherboard is from a Lenovo prebuilt so overclock is not possible. Right now its got my old GTX 680 since i upgraded my main rig back in summer with a RTX 3060 Ti after upgrading platform from AM3 to AM4 during summer 2023

after the 10xx series the super sampling and dsr got rly good. if you have a good monitor it looked amazing also started to get cheap. mfaa never cost a lot compared to supersampling x8 and they were night and day. with 8x ss and high ress mods you can make skyrim look super hd and like a remake.
i currently using a rx 570 for my i5-2500, but i always wished to own a gtx 980 TI. but back in the days it was way to expensive for me and it also demanded a strong psu. nowadays you get one for 70 euros. but i think it will be too strong for my i5. so unfortunately it will be no reall use for me.😢

@livegamesii heh... thanks. But I'm not planning upgrade at the moment.
This is still a very viable GPU this is the current oldest GPU generation Nvidia still provides driver support for but probably not for much longer though, Maxwell is approaching 10 years old soon.
you shouldn't test with 8x msaa or settings that cause the 780ti to run out of vram if you want a fair comparison, it would be like testing rx 580 4gb vs rx 580 16gb and being surprised new games run better on 16gb
