    one simple methode to get rid of the gap when cutting 2 sheets...just go in 45° and it fits perfect onto each other and u do not need to fill the gap all the time. In a lot of spaces u could have used this method

      thank you for the tip, we have to leave a gap about the width of the cutting blade to take up panel expansion when we weld them together otherwise the panel would warp :)

    Love the content! Still wish I had not sold my RX4…here in Calgary, Canada they are like a unicorn. I would love if you could do a first gen RX7…I still have my GSL-SE but she is more like the the 260zx than your RX4😢 I did spot a first gen next to the 260zx in your first video of it…future project….please!

    Any chance you could slow down the time lapse when you are forming the patches? I have some patching to do on a restoration I'm working on, and I would like to see how you actually form the pieces. Thanks for the videos!

      Joanne, you can go to the "settings" symbol below the video and select playback speed and then you can slow the motion by up to 2x. The speech will be err slurred, but if you have the Subtitles/closed captions highlighted, that allows you to "read the speech as text. I often do this as the weld flash sometimes causes me issues (I had a partial stroke ),

    Loved watching you at work and how good a condition the old girl really seems to be in; I was thinking when you opened her up along the sill, err, shock, horror! My only complaint is the terrible music sound track.. it wasn't at all pleasant to my ears. 🤓

    WHAAAAAT a Mazda with wheelbolts, and not nuts??? thats a first for me. and a pro tip for u guys, those hard to loosn bolt, get a inductive heater, a powerfull one, not the small ones.... it works wonders

    Not a Diss...but there is no benefit to grinding those welds inside the sill/rocker areas...or anywhere it will not be seen or needs to be ground or sanded .... best to leave them as is and not waste time dealing with them..treat them and cover with something and no one will know !! well except the ones watching this !! 😉

      i have been fabricating and working on stuff for 50 + years.... lol... how does an unseen weld become detail?? Any weld removal weakens the weld.... not arguing but seriously? Stickler for " detail " !! 😝
      anyways..you are welcome to do as you please... doing unnecessary work is pointless.... spend that time on what is seen or matters.... not everyone watching is inexperienced or can't do what you are doing... we comment to help anyone who is reading... and pass on our knowledge... regardless of whether it is used.. take care...lol

      @@garymallard4699 haha we all have our own way, yours isnt the only correct way of doing things, you stick to leaving the welds on if that makes you happy, ill stick to cleaning them up as it makes me happy , but that said thank you for watching and for your comments haha :D

      @@yorkshirecarrestoration Yes I rather have the sound of your grinder and compressor rather than that awful so called music. Other than that I greatly enjoy your videos , you are a master craftsman, it gives me inspiration and help with my Volvo 1971 model 142 rust repair.

    Awesome repair, great skills.
    Now........the music. Most of us would be old timers enjoying these wonderfull cars of yesteryear, is it possible to get your editor to put some gentler, flowing kind of music. It has been 23 minutes of boom, boom music on this one..!!

      I know what you mean , I (steve) edit the wednesday videos myself as well as film , do the repair work and everything to make the videos, its hard to find music and when we do the volume some times changes when we upload them, we are still on a learning curve and trying to improve our videos as well as our skill and content, sometimes not everything works and on this occasion the sound volume somehow managed to evade me haha i will try harder next time :)

    My OCD is kicking in. With those rusty bits removed I would be flooding the rest of that good sill with fish oil or some other rust preventative while I had the chance. But that's just me. Brilliant job yet again.

    Steve what’s the paint your using inside the sills? At first I thought it was seam sealer but I’m sure that would probably catch fire!
    Have you seen a chaps Chanel (street bandito ) he’s got one awesome Datsun in carbon if you ever got time to watch lol busy busy. Great job as always.

    Nice job, but i think the surface rust under that new welded panels should be cleaned to bare metal and then cover in the primer :/

    That was a remarkably good condition inside that sill - much better than my 120Y was thirty years ago. Is this the classic 'one lady owner, only drove it to church on Sundays, and that only if the sun was shining'? Or did Mazda just have better steel than Datsun?

      It's been off the road and probably in dry storage for almost 40 years, first registered in 1973 and tax ran out in 1983.

      mazda did use better steel as the datsuns rust a lot

      It's nowhere near as bad I'd say. It's only been on the road for ten years though, last taxed Nov. 1982.

    Scarey thought lifting that Mazda on the sills. What's going to happen to the mazda. Is it a daily driver. Are you going to repaint it. Its it a customers. Good work. The mig welder changed the game..I remember stripping out the interiors and sitting inside with a wet rag when gas welding was the game. Nasty stinking underseal setting on fire. Lol.
